Scott Wilson: Hershel Greene

Quotes

  • [Michonne volunteers to go on the antibiotic run]

Daryl Dixon : I'm gonna take a group out. Best not waste any more time.

    Michonne : I'm in.

Hershel Greene : You haven't been exposed. Daryl has. You get in a car with him...

Michonne : [Michonne smiles]  He's already given me fleas.

  • [Hershel tells Rick and Maggie that we can choose what we risk our lives for]

Hershel Greene : You step outside, you risk your life. You take a drink of water, you risk your life. And nowadays you breathe, and you risk your life. Every moment now you don't have a choice. The only thing you can choose is what you're risking it for. Now I can make these people feel better and hang on a little bit longer. I can save lives. That's reason enough to risk mine. And you know that.

  • [Hershel cleans Rick's sprained hand after his fight with Tyreese]

Hershel Greene : This is gonna be sprained at least a week.

Hershel Greene : [Rick winces at the pain]  Good news, none of these cuts need stitches. I wouldn't plan on much typing the next few days.

  • [Hershel volunteers to lead the group on their antibiotic run]

Hershel Greene : I can lead the way. I know where everything's kept.

Daryl Dixon : When we're out there, it's always the same. Sooner or later we run.

Hershel Greene : I can draw you a map.

  • [Hershel tells Rick that what they've been keeping out has found its way in]

Hershel Greene : We just went through something terrible. Everything we've been working so hard to keep out, it found its way in.

Rick Grimes : [Rick in a low voice]  No. It's always there.

  • [Hershel tells Rick that he still has responsibilities to keep people safe]

Hershel Greene : We just lost twelve of our own. Two more we killed in cold blood. We could be facing an outbreak.

Rick Grimes : I think I've done enough damage for one day.

Hershel Greene : I've fallen off the wagon before.

Rick Grimes : [Rick holds his sprained hand up]  That's what this is?

Hershel Greene : Pretty close. When it happened, I didn't stand around feeling bad about it. I got back up. I had responsibilities. People to keep safe.

  • [the council goes over on how to stop the sickness from killing them]

Hershel Greene : First things first. Cell block A is isolation. We keep the sick people there like we tried with Karen and David.

Daryl Dixon : What the hell we gonna do about that?

Carol Peletier : Ask Rick to look into it. Try to make a timeline... who's where when. But what are we gonna do to stop this

Hershel Greene : There is no stopping it. You get it, you have to go through it.

Michonne : But it just kills you?

Hershel Greene : The illness doesn't. The symptoms do. We need antibiotics.

  • [Hershel suggests separating the youngest group members from being exposed]

Hershel Greene : There's no telling how long it'll be before Daryl and his group return. Wouldn't it make sense for us to separate the most vulnerable? We can use the administration building. Separate office, separate room.

Glenn Rhee : Who is the most vulnerable?

Hershel Greene : The very young.

Glenn Rhee : What about the old?

    [as Hershel remains silent]

  • [Carl catches Hershel trying to sneak into the woods alone]

Hershel Greene : I need to go out there.

Carl Grimes : To the cell blocks?

Hershel Greene : To the woods.

Carl Grimes : So you're sneaking out.

Hershel Greene : Don't need anyone worrying about me and I damn sure don't want someone telling me I can't go.

Carl Grimes : I can't just let you go out into the woods by yourself.

    Hershel Greene : Let me?

Carl Grimes : I can't stop you. But I have to tell my dad.

Hershel Greene : Go ahead, then. I'll be out there by the time you find him.

Carl Grimes : Hershel. If you have to go, then I have to come with you.

  • [Hershel sees Carl have his gun back]

Hershel Greene : When did your dad give it back?

Carl Grimes : Yesterday. After everything happened.

Hershel Greene : You've grown a lot these last few months. There's a responsibility about you. I think it's done you good to step back.

Carl Grimes : Yeah. It was all right. Can't be like that all the time.

  • [Hershel and Carl stand in the woods alone]

Hershel Greene : It's peaceful out here. These last couple days, we might be safer outside those walls than in.

Carl Grimes : [when Carl sees a Walker stuck to a tree stump]  No, we're not.

Hershel Greene : Let's wrap this up.

Hershel Greene : [when Carl raises his gun at another approaching Walker]  Don't. You don't need to. It was so peaceful.

Carl Grimes : It was. Can't be like that all the time.

[when the two walk off back to the prison]

  • [Hershel tells Rick about the Elderberries to treat patients with]

Rick Grimes : What's going on?

Hershel Greene : Elderberries. My wife used to make tea with them. They're a natural flu remedy. Caleb's too sick to help. I can. There's so many times we haven't been able to do anything to change what was happening... what was happening to us. We wished we could, but we couldn't. This time, I can.

  • [Hershel tells Glenn that his job is to keep believing]

Glenn Rhee : [Glenn sighs]  This sucks. After everything, we just get taken out by a glorified cold.

Hershel Greene : Don't say things like that. Don't even think things like that.

Glenn Rhee : All I can do is stop saying them.

Hershel Greene : No, you can do more. We got this far somehow, you can believe somehow. Now we all have jobs here. That one's yours.

  • [Hershel gives Caleb a drink of his Elderberry Tea]

    Hershel Greene : Drink it.

Hershel Greene : [Caleb drinks the tea]  Hang in there, Doc.

Dr. Caleb Subramanian : You shouldn't be here.

Hershel Greene : Tell me you wouldn't be.

Hershel Greene : [Caleb coughs repeatedly]  If you weren't in here already, you'd be in here.

  • [Hershel puts a cold rag to Glenn's forehead]

    Glenn Rhee : I'm fine. I'm fine.

Hershel Greene : [Hershel puts a cold rag on Glenn's forehead]  Keep this on your forehead. Veterinarian's orders.
