Kicking off production in Minneapolis, Mn before hitting the road for a filmmaking journey of 2,869 miles across seven states, Adventure Tom follows a reserved artist, Tom, in the wake of personal losses as he is paired up with a stranded accountant, Lilly. The ’70s and ’80s were an experimental time for movies. Sci-fi and horror reached new heights, with some of history’s most successful directors cutting their teeth on genre blockbusters before achieving awards glory in subsequent decades. But while old IP continues to inspire a plethora of remakes and reboots, some American classics don’t totally hold up.
Aggressive sexual content disguised as comedy — often revolving around male characters refusing to take “no” for an answer — hits differently in a Hollywood that’s experienced the Me Too movement. What once seemed funny comes across as creepy, and directors handwaving these characters’ misbehavior can leave contemporary audiences questioning the artists’ motives.

Desperate people do desperate things. This timeless fact of life is plain to see all throughout Beth Hanna and Jerren Lauder’s You’re Killing Me, a teen thriller invigorated by its own clever setup. While the execution may not go off without a hitch, the movie keeps the audience’s attention, due in large part to its sense of real-time urgency and engaging dilemma.
Going to college with her best friend is important to a scholarship kid like Eden (McKaley Miller). So much so she would ask her classmate Schroder (Brice Anthony Heller) for a big favor; she wants his father, a congressman, to write her a recommendation letter. This could be Eden’s only chance to get off the waitlist and into her dream school. In the meantime, a classmate of theirs has gone missing, but no one at school is so concerned that they would skip Schroder’s Angels and Devils party.

Numbers have begun rolling in for this first weekend of February and boy was I off with my predictions from Thursday! M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin should still come in first place, but it is opening softer than I anticipated with an estimated 15 million based off a 5.6 million Friday. I actually saw the writing on the wall for this one when I saw it Thursday night (after I had written my predictions) in a Dolby theater that was fairly empty. The opening puts it right in line with Night’s last film Old that opened to 16.8 million back in July 2021. That opening is a big reason I thought this movie would come in higher. Allow me to take you all the way back to summer 2021 when movie theaters were still struggling to find their footing and many people were still wary of going back to theaters. Since then,...

On her new album Queen of Me, Shania Twain doesn’t sound like the same person who was once so on top she could playfully feign indifference toward Brad Pitt’s movie-star looks in “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” At the time, she could do no wrong, having become a global star and brought country music forward into a new era with arena-rock attitude, sex appeal, and hooks to match. But as her long-awaited 2017 album Now demonstrated, Twain’s voice, affected by illness and slowly rehabilitated, has changed — it...

Country singer Shania Twain is declaring herself the Queen of Me with her new album, her first in six years. The album was written during the lockdown of the pandemic, and one of the songs on the project was inspired by Twain’s own bout with Covid at home.

Prior to the pandemic, Twain had overcome personal health obstacles that nearly prevented her from having a singing career at all. She was diagnosed with Lyme disease only after she began getting dizzy while performing every night. Later, she had to have surgery on her vocal cords due to her Lyme disease.
“My voice was never the same again,” she lamented in her 2022 documentary Not Just a Girl. “It just went into this strange flanging… lack of control of the airflow. I didn’t understand it.

Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge is reportedly attached to write a new Tomb Raider TV series for Amazon.
Last summer, MGM reportedly missed the window to greenlight a Tomb Raider sequel, meaning the franchise was up for grabs.
The Hollywood Reporter now cites sources saying Waller-Bridge is writing and executive producing the latest iteration of Lara Croft as part of her overall deal with Amazon.
Waller-Bridge does not plan to star in the series, THR reports. The Independent has contacted Amazon Studios for comment.
The franchise is based on a video game series, which follows the pistol-wielding archaeologist-cum-adventurer Croft as she searches for lost artefacts.
It has previously spawned two film adaptations, first led by Angelina Jolie in 2001 and Alicia Vikander in 2018.
Vikander’s Tomb Raider was poorly received by critics and earned a lacklustre 275m (£228m) at the global box office, which is estimated to be roughly the figure the film needed to break even.

It’s easy to imagine certain socially conservative audience members sitting in the audience for filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg’s latest, clutching their pearls until their knuckles bleed. But fans of extreme cinema like “Infinity Pool” are more likely to find it merely disappointing. It’s violent, sure, and it’s sexual, but it’s not a controversial exploration of challenging ideas. It’s a Souplantation salad bar of half-developed plot points and superficial graphic imagery, in service of a theme that’s about as generic as anything you’d find in a mainstream studio film.
The film starts the way so many films do, with a writer who has writer’s block, in search of inspiration. Alexandar Skarsgård (“The Northman”) plays James Foster, who wrote one book years ago and hasn’t published a damned thing since, even though he’s married to Em, the daughter of a publishing magnate.

The film world lost a legend last week when Agnès Varda passed away at 90. The heartfelt outpouring of tributes from filmmakers, actors, and critics around the world says a lot about the legacy of the French New Wave icon who inspired so many. But she was most influential to a new generation of women filmmakers, a role she relished.
Varda’s influence is all over the work of Greta Gerwig, Miranda July, Lena Dunham, Kelly Reichardt and Crystal Moselle. Varda herself often expressed admiration for many of these directors when asked about new talent.
Here are just a few of the lessons the godmother of the French New Wave imparted to the next generation of women filmmakers, in their words.

Paramount is going through an awkward moment. Looking back, the studio’s CinemaCon presentation could only highlight 18 Oscar nominations; looking forward, the release slate is skimpy and Nickelodeon division’s is woeful, anchored by “SpongeBob SquarePants” and designed to make the studio look like they have exploitable IP.
That said, change is coming: Genial ex-Fox chairman Jim Gianopulos replaces outgoing 12-year veteran Brad Grey. (Said worldwide marketing president Megan Colligan, “We are thrilled to have him leading the ship and taking us into our future.”) Gianopulos has full greenlight authority over what remains of the studio’s skeleton crew, but he needs top-level (and top-quality) help. One production candidate, Scott Stuber, skipped to Netflix, while Oscar producer Michael DeLuca kept his lucrative deal at Universal.
The studio does have two franchises it can still exploit. “Mi 6: Mission Impossible” starts shooting April 8 in London, India, Paris, and New Zealand, for...

Have you ever found yourself suddenly enveloped in a nightmare? You must be dreaming, right? Either that, or you’re in an immersive Vr escape room, trying to save your own life while a friend fucks with you from the sidelines! That was the fun, panicked predicament I found myself in when I headed to The Microsoft Lounge to play The Belko Experiment – Vr Escape Room Experience created by my talented friend, David Yarovesky.
The game, co-created by Dan Clifton, is an interactive puzzle which puts you in the middle of The Belko Experiment. You have fifteen minutes to solve the clues in order to save your own life. It’s designed for the Htc Vive and Oculus Rift headsets through the Steam Platform, so you have a bit of a choice. Did I mention that it is Free? As someone who has experience with both headsets, I was glad...

A day before Britney Spears’ 35th birthday (December 2), the folks over at Lifetime released a handful of photos from the upcoming singer’s biopic, and boy were we confused.
The images feature the Princess of Pop (Natasha Bassett) – which in the glam pic looks more like a 2008 Taylor Swift – along with her then-beau Justin Timberlake (Nathan Keyes), ex-husband Kevin Federline (Clayton Chitty) and the rest of the *Nsync crew, none of which actually look like the real-life celebrities.
Lifetime has a knack for casting actors who tend to not look like the celebrities they are portraying, e.g., Amanda Fuller in “The Brittany Murphy Story,” Camilla Luddington and Nico Evers-Swindel in “William & Kate,” so it’s not surprising to see such unrecognizable faces portraying the stars. (Really, that’s supposed to be *Nsync?!)

Music is an integral part of filmmaking, moving the story and touching the audience. Where would iconic movies such as Star Wars, Avatar, The Godfather, or Gone with the Wind be without its music? Would Downton Abbey, Dexter, or House of Cards be the same and have audiences glued to their TVs without music? Would gamers immerse into Final Fantasy or Legend of Zelda if they were silent? Movie music has moved us all to cheer, cry, and fall in love for more than 100 years. Yet the vast majority of composers hired to create this vital part of Hollywood’s cultural landscape have been men. Well, that musical glass ceiling is about to crack!

B.C. Butcher is set to have its world premiere on Thursday March 3rd at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. In attendance will be: Kansas Bowling, Rodney Bingenheimer, Kato Kaelin, Lloyd Kaufman, Natasha Halevi, Devyn Leah, Molly Elizabeth Ring, Kadim Hardison, Miranda Robin, Cherie Currie, Michael des Barres, Kadim Hardison, Allison Anders, the band Kill My Coquette.
Awhile back I wrote a rave review of the campy, hilarious new Troma movie B.C. Butcher, directed by seventeen year old Kansas Bowling. Heidi Honeycutt, programmer for the female-directed genre film festival Etheria Film Night, is also a big fan so she decided to organize a world premiere for the film at The Egyptian Theater.

Today signals the one week mark as we head into the home stretch to Hollywood’s biggest night, the 88th Academy Awards. For the die-hard awards season watcher, this year’s Oscar race has been both a dream and an absolute hair-pulling nightmare.
The race for Best Picture has never been more exciting with no clear front runner. For the first time in years, it’s anyone’s game and a nail biter down to when the final award is announced.
The precursor guild awards, along with last week’s British Academy Film Awards (the BAFTAs), did little to help the quandary with the predictions. The Big Short received a huge boost when it won the Producers Guild award, while filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu took home the Directors Guild award for helming The Revenant.
The Revenant received 12 nominations and Mad Max: Fury Road has 10 leaving the Oscar pundits with varying predictions.

The End Of The Tour, A24’s Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel pic about writer David Foster Wallace and a reporter profiling him, got off to a solid beginning with a launch in 4 New York and L.A. theaters, one of a handful of new specialty movies this weekend. A couple of high profile Sundance docs also performed well in their openings. Magnolia’s Gore Vidal/William F. Buckley doc Best Of Enemies did fine in three theaters, and Showtime Documentary Listen To Me Marlon had a respectable debut in two cinemas. A Lego Brickumentary opened slow but built some blocks on demand. And Broad Green expanded Samba by 20 additional theaters in its second frame.
James Ponsoldt’s The End Of The Tour grossed $126,459, averaging $31,615. That’s an impressive per screen debut for a Sundance 2015 acquisition, beating Fox Searchlight’s Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’s opening weekend...

Elementary welcomes Sherlock Holmes' new protegee, Kitty Winter, in the season three opener...
This review contains spoilers.
3.1 Enough Nemesis To Go Around
“You don’t need me anymore”. By inference, those were the five words with which Holmes took abrupt leave of Watson at the end of Elementary season two. She might not, Sherlock, but as this episode showed, we sorely do.
Proving that the arrival of Jonny Lee Miller wearing a ridiculous helmet will improve any TV show tenfold, Elementary’s season three opener but only kicked into gear when Sherlock popped up dressed like a thrift store Cyberman. Before that, the episode had got off to a brisk start with a classic locked-room mystery, but lacked Elementary’s vital ingredient: Miller.

Moms’ Night Out
Directed by: Jon Erwin, Andrew Erwin
Cast: Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, Logan White, Patricia Heaton, Trace Adkins
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: May 9, 2014
Plot: A trio of moms (Drew, Heaton, White) attempt to restore order to a crazy night when a baby goes missing.
Who’S It For? People ready to be reminded that wholesome doesn’t necessarily mean nice.
Overall
Liberty is a concept expressed only in irony with Moms’ Night Out, a female-driven minivan comedy that instructs ultimately to listen to thy husband for it is Biblical, even if thy husband is a child himself. Like sad Mitt Romney and his chocolate milk, this PG-romp is a brief walk on the wild side from the rules that await at the end of the night. Audiences should start getting used to seeing Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller together onscreen.
The duo play romantic partners in the new coming-of-age drama "The Spectacular Now" (out Aug. 2) and antagonists in 2014's "Divergent," the first of three films based on Veronica Roth's beloved young adult series. Those movies -- plus Woodley's lead role in the upcoming adaptation of John Green's equally beloved young adult book "The Fault in Our Stars" -- have put both actors at the top of casting wish lists around Hollywood.
"That's what other actors tell me," Teller, 26, said to HuffPost Entertainment when the strength of his burgeoning resume was broached. "Every time I get something, they're like, 'That's awesome, man. But, seriously, fuck you.'"

Okay, there was such an insane amount of plot development this episode that I’m just going to jump into it. Strap in!
Ben (Rob Kazinsky) fangs out, bites himself and gives his blood to an ailing Jason (Ryan Kwanten) while Sookie (Anna Paquin) calls 911. Okay, so Ben is a vampire, but he can walk in the sun, reads minds and has thoughts that Sookie can hear, and isn’t contractually obligated to dress like a goth hooker. Nope, nothing to see here!
Meanwhile, Peepaw Niall (Rutger Hauer) zaps Nora (Lucy Griffiths) into the next county after she blabbers about Warlow and Lilith in the Vampire Bible, and she gets bagged and tagged by some Swat guys. She says “f*ck”. A lot.
Alcide (Joe Manganiello) pulls his shirt on (awww….) and barks at his packmembers to go after Nicole and Sam and Emma.
Sam (Sam Trammell) – where did he get pants,...
