Brilliant

People should be ashamed at the way we are destroying this planet. Even reading many of the reviews here, so many of us are in denial, even though the science is indisputable. SHAME. Harrison Ford has done what very few of us are able to do - use his celebrity to travel to Indonesia to question the commitment of government officials there to stop the exploitation of the rain forests for palm oil. Basically the security of our planet is secondary to money making and that explains why no progress has been made to reducing human carbon emissions on the planet. This documentary series pulls no punches on what we have to do to avoid a catastrophe. Pity no-one is listening. Instead the argument is reduced to the Republicans versus the Democrats. The climate doesn't care about people's political affiliations. Those who had the political power to act and chose to do nothing will have to answer to their children and grandchildren who face living on an unlivable planet.

Layered stories weave quality investigative journalism
stevemonty29 April 2014
This series of films explore many different stories around climate change in order to illuminate some of what is happening locally in our world.

Unfortunately there are not more documentaries on TV of this quality and prescience. It's extremely well written, produced and researched.

Why do some people rate this so badly? I can only guess that they are either extremely closed minded to the world we live in or they are lying selfishly for their own interests.

If you are skeptical then watch it and make your own mind up, otherwise you remain ignorant of the most important issue humanity has ever faced.

A Commendable Effort
jfrost-fixmypc21 June 2014
Famous personalities including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford and Michael C. Hall catch the general public's eye and lead them to a discussion of a very important topic. Real life examples of the effects of climate change help to make connections to a technically complex scientific model of the future worldwide environment. Although no single weather event can be blamed unambiguously on global warming, it is shown how the likelihood of extreme events in general will probably increase in frequency as worldwide temperatures rise. Climate change deniers and skeptics are treated with respect and shown the experimental evidence that they disagree with. Thanks to all involved in the making of the series.

Very interesting journalism spoiled by shallowness & hypocrisy
malx-friends9 August 2014
A must-see series, but rather obviously aimed at a mass audience, comfortable in their well-insulated houses. Nevertheless, must-see! Arguments presented for and against the global-warming theory are trivial at best. Perhaps the most interesting part is wondering whether the journalists and "scientists" portrayed realize that the hypocrisy of their luxurious and obviously energy-intensive life-styles shown here is the very reason that ordinary people do not take them seriously.

There is an excellent interview with President Obama which has totally countered my previous negative impression of him.

Go for it you won't regret it!

Just don't listen to the "One Star Votes" their arguments are so flawed i don't even know where to start.

All the episodes so far had nothing to do with the participants being rich or anything else.

The arguments in here are nothing new , though an eye opener they should be for all religious people on how, and here comes the contradictory part for them, believing in science can be possibly being religious, one thing i really like about the show.

The sheer science and blatant evidence you see, has nothing to do with what biased comments you get of "The One Star Votes", so just don't even bother reading them.

It is a really good show and the means of transport to getting the message across in here, are in this case Celebrities, nothing wrong with that if you ask me.

Just watch it some episodes will baffle you on what mindless RAPE is committed on nature just for money.

It's a must see
divyeshinst24 April 2015
i really loved the show. it brings out the true scale of catastrophic natural disasters that are bound to happen if we keep on exploiting our mother earth the same way we are doing it. Also the urge to educate our political leaders to take necessary actions in-order to preserve whatever resources we have and use it wisely and start working towards a sustainable future keeping aside dirty politics also as they are ignorant about climate change and in the name of development allows top corporate companies to exploit the planet resources which is acting as a catalyst in the process of climate degradation. Global Warming is a true man made phenomenon and not something created by some supernatural entity and needs to be brought under control. I really hope everyone watches it and do their part to preserve the only planet we call HOME.

I want to thank all the super-rich people that made this series
imdb-487-88156124 April 2014
We are often told that rich people are evil. This documentary proves otherwise. The rich people in the series have a heart of gold.

Indeed. These super-rich people briefly left their mansions and glorious life styles to tell us that we really, really don't want to have their mansions and glorious life styles. The fate of the world is at stake. They flew around the world in private jets (the film crews flew coach, we hope) telling us to "cool it".

You see, there are still parts on this blue planet where it is common for a 20-year-old mother to have seen two or three of her children die from diseases that are entirely preventable. Something as simple as access to electricity would do it (i.e. cheap energy with which to boil water). However, these super-rich people are telling her she cannot have an electric generator because, they say, 95% of scientists hypothesize it "could" harm the planet. And, shrug, the death of her children is the price to pay to save the planet from doom.

According to the World Health Organization, I quote, "more 6 million children under the age of five died in 2012. More than half of these early child deaths are due to conditions that could be prevented or treated with access to simple, affordable interventions".

The bottom line of the documentary? The children of the poor need to continue dying so that the children of the super-rich inherit a better world. And if it turns out that the fate of the world is not at stake, well, the children that have died are the children of the poor.

A hypocritical fever dream from people who should at least have people who know better.
simba-4423 April 2014
To call this mess propaganda would be to misuse the word. There's presenting facts selectively in an effort to further an agenda, and then there's ignoring fact, logic, and reason altogether and making a contention based entirely on the premise of "because I said so". "Years of Living Dangerously" is decidedly in the latter category. It is a convoluted hodgepodge of fallacies and misleading information peddled in such a way as to make Dan Rather blush.

Should one ignore the blatant hypocrisy of a bunch of well to do actors jetting around the world, while burning more jet fuel and creating more "greenhouse" gasses than the average person does in their lifetime, the show is clearly written by people who are entirely convinced that the viewing public are comprised of brainless amoeba. This outright contempt for the intelligence of the audience speaks volumes to the audience the show has received, which is approximately 400% less than a COPS rerun on Spike at four in the morning.

Awful
armoredtanker1 December 2016
Science is never settled. That is what Neil deGrasse Tyson says. Further he states that anyone saying "science is settled is lying and not furthering what real science is.

Recently in Sept.02 2016 31000 Scientist, including 9029 Phd's signed a letter stating that carbon has no effect at all on the climate. Nasa has confirmed this data. The models are wrong. They say it is the current ending solar cycle. Now we are in a cooling phase.

This show is utter nonsense. Tax people to use gas. Hell one lady who lives next to me can't afford the price right now. This show is pure propaganda and does not use real science but utter nonsense from simpleton actors and participants. The truth is not shown but only one side that is not rooted in real science. This is the type of propaganda that the nazi's used. Avoid this stupidity!

No wonder Trump won. Taxing carbon is not what the Tax code was made for! That is pure fascism!

ridiculous
gypjet-15 June 2014
I don't know why people think that celebrities know anything. This series is just a big piece of political propaganda as preached by a bunch of people who didn't study past high school (if they even graduated). Not one piece of actual scientific evidence in this.

Yes, the climate varies over years. Yes we should all do better at keeping our air and water clean, but when you think that the best thing for the planet is for people to die or quit living, then don't haul out a bunch of celebrities with a huge "carbon footprint" to prove to me that we should all just commit suicide so we don't impact the planet anymore. This crap is just so much hogwash.

Has No Scientific Evidence
georgelawrence725 May 2014
Per America's knowledge, most smart Americans know that global warming is a big hoax. I wasn't too knowledgeable on climate change so I decided to give this documentary a look. I watched the first episode and I started to realize that this documentary doesn't contain any reliable scientific evidence. I decided to do some research on climate change. I stayed up all night for two nights reading up on global warming and this documentary doesn't tell the truth. This is a brain-washing documentary. They said that 97% of scientists say climate change is happening. I read up on that statistic and found it was fake. How does such a documentary end up on television? Why are Americans starting to believe this stuff? I live in Houston, TX and there was ice for 4 days on the roads... IN HOUSTON!!!! My kid's school cancelled school 4 times!!!! There hasn't been any warming since the 1980s!!!

DON'T WATCH THIS!! DON'T BE BRAINWASHED!!

For the totally uninitiated.
davidklausa14 July 2015
As someone who already understands the basics of climate change, I find little to learn from this show. It's basically celebrities asking very naive questions, softballs to get an easily impactful line. Cheadle, Ford, and Friedman are boring and humorless. The camera pans to closeups of handshakes and guns, trying a little too hard to create an atmosphere of foreboding. The typical Gore-bashing argument of flying in private jets etc. does seem especially on display here, although somebody has to fly around doing some journalism if messages are to be spread. The actual content of the show is educational. If you don't know anything about climate change and respect actors, you can get something out of this.
