Terrifying and emotional; hits all the right notes, with an astonishing work by Eva Green

And here was me thinking that "Closer Than Sisters" couldn't be topped. Oh boy, was I foolish to think so! "Possession" combines everything Penny Dreadful has managed to do well in an amazing package, packed with a big punch. Once again, the story took a shift towards Vanessa and, again, it was incredible. Not only it served well to give a proper solution to her character's arc (or so I think) but also revealing a lot about the others, thanks to The Devil's outburst, a clever way to expose the characters in a quick, stylish and horrifying way without needing of another flashback session.

Once again, the brightest (or darkest?) star of the episode was no doubt ms. Green, which is truly a force of nature in terms of commitment, energy and raw passion towards the art of acting. Every single moment she's in the screen, it shines, and in another moment delves into darkness and horror. Like I've read in another review around the web, "I actually need proof that she is NOT possessed." Josh Hartnett also delivered the goods, in a surprising turn which I won't spoil, but also truly welcomed.

This episode had it all: it was scary, intense, emotional and even weirdly, darkly comic sometimes. It was a proof that the show runners know what they're doing, with faith in the talented cast, specially Eva, delivering the performance of her career. Brilliant episode and one that will stay with viewers for some time.

This is the best

I can say that this episode is the best one of the whole season, I did't see the last episode yet but the performance of Eva Green is supernatural and can't be describe as astonishing. Emotional terrifying moments passed through the 55 minutes. I hate how Sir Malcolm shows his selfishness and compassionless while pursuing of his daughter but against our humanity yet I'm still shocked by the outstanding Eva's role and how perfectly she was in this episode. Seeing that the main idea of the series is to find Mina the scenery in the ship was the only clue to return the sequence and this by itself is a great skill by the writers and the director. The dark theme of this episode comes in harmony with the previous episodes but here it has a special taste with the perfect usage of dimmed light to support the idea of possession

Awesome

This is horror at its best. The eerie atmosphere that has been built up from episode 1 starts to get more murkier in a grand way. Josh Harnett plays his character beautifully. Harry Treadway is awesome as Frankenstein. Timothy Dalton is a revelation. This episode left me awestruck and craving for more. Excellent work by EVA Green. She is simply mesmerizing. And last but not the least ; the dialogues are fascinating.

Possession Penny Dreadful 1x07 review

Overall this episode was fantastic with Eva Green's performance making the whole nature of this episode so believable and so dark, this episode really hinged on her ability in acting and she delivered and did not disappoint, why this episode does not get a 9 or 10 is because they could have been a bit more in the episode other than the possession parts as it was a 50-55 minute episode but overall as a confined episode to one story thread it was very much a enjoyable episode.

Eva Green Wrecks the Show

All respect to her as a person, of course, and I doubt this nothing review will ever be read by anyone who cares. But I personally cannot stand Ms Ives and her demon possession storyline.

There are far more interesting things going on with Frankenstein, with Irish Rose Tyler, hell even Chandler. This episode and the last just drag everything down completely.
