- Annie follows two Chinese nationalists working in Washington DC as they are involved in the funding a terrorist bomb attack. Joan is now the head of clandestine affairs; Auggie is promoted to interim head of DPD. Henry vows to kill Teo.
- As proof of good faith, Theo told Annie that Henry Wilcox finances terror trough Chinese businessman Xu Chen and his wife Wendy, a petty diplomat. Auggie is promoted to Joan's previous post, but a jealous rival sees to it that's only a day, then Henry, who eagerly taunts Arthur, helps bring in Calder, the Colombian 'sheriff'. - Annie works out with Auggie in the gym. He worries she's made them vulnerable by letting Teo go and knows that Henry Wilcox will want an explanation. He told Annie to take out Teo as a sign she was on board, instead she let him go.
They work out her story: That she took him into custody, to a CIA black site and interrogated him, but there was a security breach and he escaped. All of which is true, she's just leaving out the last part where she found him again, let him shoot a terrorist to stop an attack and turned him into an asset.
He gave her the names of Wendy and Xu Chen, two Chinese nationals in DC. He's a VP at the World Bank, she's an attaché at the Chinese embassy with access to courier pouches and diplomatic immunity.
Annie follows them. She watches Wendy buy a pastry and drop the bag in a Dumpster. She sees a chalk mark by the Dumpster.
Back at Langley, she tells Auggie she wants to get closer to them.
Joan calls a meeting to announce her own replacement, the new interim head of the DPD: Auggie Anderson.
Joan told Auggie last night but swore him to secrecy. Annie says it would have been nice to know sooner. Auggie doesn't want their relationship to change how they do the job; he doesn't want the job to change them.
Later, Auggie leads a briefing on the op on the Chens.
Annie is going to lease an apartment next to the Chens. They don't have time to get video in their apartment, but will have audio.
She settles into her temporary apartment, which is very fancy. They have a camera on the Chens so Annie can see when they return.
She goes to get her mail to run into them. She tries to strike up a conversation, but gets shut down. She invites them over for a drink, but they decline. She hands Wendy a calendar addressed to them she says was mistakenly delivered to her, but Wendy promptly drops it in the trash.
At Langley, Eric Braithwaite intercepts Joan. He scolds her for filling her spot without consulting other department heads. She calls him out for his sour grapes over not getting the DCS job and tells her not everyone is on board the "palace coup" she and Arthur are trying to pull off.
Arthur is waiting for her in her office. She makes a show of being angry with him for her secretary, calling him her "former husband."
She's cleared out the photo of the two of them and he's hurt. She's still stung by him pulling off his plan to thwart Henry without consulting her about any of it, calling it "selfish." He's just glad Teo's alive and Joan still has a job, but is now concerned with keeping his family.
Later that night, Auggie and Annie talk on the phone as she settles into her Chen spying apartment. She's not picking up anything on audio from them. Auggie was able to confirm Wendy made several recent trips to Colombia and met with the ALC's banker, Oswaldo.
Annie picks up a call, the Chens are on the move. She follows them to a parking lot by the Washington Monument. She finds them meeting with Henry Wilcox, assuring him that the bomber got his money and they don't know who stopped him. Chen tells Henry nothing can be traced to them, but he ends their arrangement. He offers to pay them off in exchange for anything they have that ties them together. Annie listens to the whole thing from the bushes.
Later, Annie and Auggie assess with Joan. Annie wants to try to turn Wendy because the conversation wasn't recorded and they don't have enough evidence. Auggie overrules her, ordering her not to approach them.
Annie gets back to her desk and finds a note that says "Lincoln Memorial, Noon -- H." She finds Henry waiting for her. She tells him she let Teo go in exchange for him telling her where the terrorist attack was.
She follows up on what he said earlier about Auggie and he explains there's a six month gap in Auggie's CIA employment around the time he opened up the account in Colombia for Arthur.
Later, with Auggie, he points out the story she told wasn't what they agreed to. She asks him about the six month gap in 2006, but he's hesitant to tell her.
She doesn't want them to be like Joan and Arthur, saying she wants their lives outside the building to be more important than their lives inside.
Back in her apartment, Annie sees Wendy come home. She goes over and makes a hurried pitch to Wendy to help protect her from Henry. Wendy says Henry will kill Xu if she doesn't give him what he wants. Annie tries to stop her, knocking a few items out of Wendy's purse. Wendy gets a security guard to intercede and gets away but Annie manages to swipe her damaged sim card.
Back at Langley, Auggie isn't around, so Annie has Barber look at the sim card for Xu's number. They track his GPS but don't get a hit.
Eric Braithwaite comes in, angry that he wasn't notified about an op against a Chinese national. And he knows the security guard filed a police report against Annie for harassing Wendy. He blames Auggie, saying he has no control over his people.
Auggie shows up and chews him out, accusing him of posturing out of bitterness for not getting the DCS job.
Auggie is upset with Annie for approaching Wendy after he told her not to and says she can't do things like that now that he's her boss. When Annie leaves, Auggie sends a text.
Late at night, Auggie meets with Teo. They clearly know each other, but Teo points out that Auggie can't help him in the field anymore.
Back at Langley the next day, Barber finds the Chens at the train station using facial recognition. Annie doesn't check in with Auggie, just telling Barber to tell the "boss" she's doing her job. She finds the Chens at the station, but sees Henry walking in. She calls Barber for an armed pick up.
She finds the Chens on the track and gives them a rushed pitch, saying she can protect them. They agree as Henry reaches the platform. She hustles them over the tracks behind a moving train. Henry catches a glimpse of Annie's back as she walks away.
Back at Langley, Annie checks in with Joan. They have the Chens in protective custody and someone is going to Miami to get the proof against Henry that they mailed ahead. Joan tells Annie she understands what it's like to be dating your boss. "Is there room for secrets?"
"Only if there's room for forgiveness," Joan says.
Annie goes to see Auggie, who says nothing is more important than them. He has some things to tell her. In 2006, Arthur hand-picked Auggie to train Teo in the Czech Republic. It's not in CIA files because it wasn't a CIA mission, it was personal, so he could kill the man who killed his mother.
Auggie was there with Helen Hanson, another trainer, posing as his wife, but they fell in love. Teo supplied Auggie with intel that got Helen killed in front of Auggie. So that's why he has a hard time putting his faith in Teo.
"You will never lose me by telling me the truth," she says.
Henry interrupts Arthur's breakfast at his hotel. He still blames Arthur for his son Jai's death and says Arthur will pay, "a son for a son." He knows Joan's expecting and hopes it's a son. He's just getting started.
Annie goes to the Chens safe house to check on them and finds a massacre. Several agents are dead inside, as are the Chens.
Auggie learns the courier sent to pick up the intel in Miami was attacked and it was stolen.
Arthur drops in on Joan, who says it's time for him to come home.
At Langley, Joan drops in on Auggie with Eric Braithwaite. She regrets to inform Auggie that he's been relieved of his duties. Someone had to be the scapegoat. Joan, Auggie and Annie resolve to trust no one but each other.
Auggie's replacement arrives: It's Calder Michaels.
