A mistake!
kwihui28 June 2022
It's ratings are correct, a poor B movie! It could have been better with the deeper character development. Too busy trying to throw off the viewers with the twisted plot it lost focus.

I am glad it was a free on YouTube because I'd have been angry about wasting money.

I want to set the record straight!

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know who paid the other reviewers but what a crock. Im betting they were apart of this crapfest The ending was terrible and not a shocker. This was a B movie with B actors, a B script, and B special effects if you can even call them that. So much to say where to begin. If the Brother wasn't the killer why did he get a gun, then chloroform and kidnap a cops daughter? Why does corona make you fight like a wus. This was just cheesy from the cheesy car chase to the cheesy one liners to the cheesy plot. Who could possibly review this movie and give it more than 3 stars? I won't say it was the worst movie I've ever seen because I watch a lot of movies but it was a stinker. I was expecting a serial killer thriller and got none of it. The only believable character was the pimp at the beginning of the film and thats saying a lot. There was 0 character development so I literally had 0 interest in any of the characters. I will usually give up on films like this 10 minutes in but gave this a chance and now I wish I had the time back. I don't care if you get this for free it isn't worth watching. With all this being said even though this was the same ole same ole format of a thriller that just didn't build any suspense it really could have been better with just a tiny bit of effort. There were some believable moments where I felt the actors were not just phoning it in but they were few and far between. This film gets a solid D even though in school 30% was a F, I don't think it deserves a F but it barely ranks a D. Watch at your own peril.

Just bad!
mjb-092043 October 2022
Bad acting, bad characters, bad storyline, bad suspense, bad production and a bad predictable twist. Yes I guessed it. Every episode of Burn Notice is better in all categories. Very disappointed. The overwhelming poor reviews are right. The 8 & 10 point reviews are nonsense. Maybe if they didn't spend so much time on stupid sub pilot and had better suspects.

I think it's serial

***SPOILERS*** Much better then you would expect direct to video & cable TV movie that has to do with a series of sex related murders in the streets of L.A that has the LAPD completely baffled. It's LA police detectives Danny Gates and Michael Decker,Drew Fuller & Richard Burgi, who get involved in finding the elusive killer who from witness descriptions seem to be a man of the cloth or someone impersonating one. We also see the conflict between the two policemen in that Decker feels that his partner Gates is a bit too nice in doing his job by not being aggressive enough like pulling the trigger on a hood, during a hostage crisis, like he would have done. There's also the fact that Danny's brother Jack, Ivan Sergie, a two time loser now out on parole who's a prime suspect in the murders is being protected by him despite the fact that his fingerprints are all over the crime scenes.

We get a slew of suspects in who's committing these murders mostly of hookers that never seem to pan out until Jack high on heroin and booze goes psycho and kidnaps Decker's 17 year old daughter Kelly, Anne Winters, planing when he sobers up to both rape and murder her just to get even with her dad who had him arrested and put behind bars for three years for drug trafficking. Trapped under a L.A underpass to the freeway Tom refusing to give himself up and with a gun to Kelly's head is blown away by his very reluctant brother Danny during a police stand-off. Then with the film not ending but continuing it becomes evident that the L.A serial killer is still on the lose and more victims are to to be added to his body count.

****SPOILERS**** The shocking ending in the movie is in more ways more disturbing then the murders themselves. The clues were all there throughout the film to who the killer is but were totally overlooked by the police who seemed to focus in the wrong directions. Like ex-cons on parole like the late Tom Gates and men of the cloth as well as even eye witnesses to the murders themselves. In the final few minutes the killer finally comes out of the shadows and reveals himself and his mode of operation which turned out to be the best cover for his crimes.

Compelled to write my first review
peechygurl3 November 2014
Seeing the unfairly low IMDb rating, having read the other 3 reviews -which were more like plot summaries- and being a lover of MYSTERY Crime Dramas, I had to post my thumbs up "defense" of this movie.

Since I love the mystery aspect of any crime film and there is so little of that these days, I gave this movie a high 8 out of 10 for that reason. While I do enjoy big name, seasoned actors, lots of action and car or foot chases, too many movies rely on that for the "success" and suspense of a movie. Not this film: less experienced movie actors and a script that kept you guessing and second guessing "who-done-it" - I loved that!

A decent thriller
mjanssens2624 January 2021
Watched this on Tubi Tv. It had a good pace and the twist kept you guessing until the end. The twist is actually quite good. This is an easy watch with excellent production values and decent performances. Watch it on a rainy Sunday or during a quarantine period.

Fatal Instinct Warning: Spoilers
A police detective Michael-Ivan Sergei follows a trail of evidence that eventually seems to lead to his trusted Jack Gates (Adrian Tudor) partner's ex-con brother-Danny Gates (Drew Fuller) who he helped put in prison years ago. The sequence of story is dramatic and interesting. Michael (Ivan Sergei) instinct is directed toward Danny (Drew Fuller) throughout the whole movie. The culminating part of the movie happens when Danny assaults and kidnaps Michael's (Ivan Sergei) daughter- Kelly (Anne Winters) and Jack Gates (Adrian Tudor) helped with the rescue and is compelled to kill his brother in order to save Kelly's life. Toward the end of the movie a flashback of movie events reveals new information to the viewers and the information points toward one of the detectives as a serial killer.

"Fatal Instinct" a police Action Thriller that keeps you bound to a seat until the end of the film .An action film that everyone has to see it! The film was shot in the city of Los Angeles that gives it the action flavor with many great locations It's a maze of potential suspects that keeps you guessing all the way through. The film very entertaining with great cast, amazing car and helicopter chases, investigation, love story and fun between the two main cops that sometimes keeps their friendship on the edge. Great written and directed by Luciano Saber. I hope we'll see soon another film made by this wonderful and creative director!

Brothers!!!
lavatch14 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
On the tough streets of L. A., the fellow detectives Decker & Gates are a modern-day Starsky & Hutch, keeping innocent women safe from nefarious predators.

"Fatal Instinct" included a good set of characters, which helped to counteract some of the pedestrian dialogue ("Bless me, Father, for I have sinned"). We primarily see the world through the eyes of Detective Michael Decker, whose wife Jen has deployed in the Middle East (thank you for your service!!!). Decker is now raising his daughter Kelly while investigating a strong of crimes against women. He is also still dealing with psychological issues from an incident that apparently sent his partner's brother to prison.

As the action unfolds, the focus shifts to the Gates brothers, Jack and Danny. A shocking moment occurs when it becomes apparent that they both love the same woman, Melissa. Danny is a real piece of work: two stints in prison and now out on parole. He cannot keep in check his hair-trigger temper.

There was good location filming that included a wonderful old church. Father Paul may be a suspect in the ongoing abuse against women in the community. But you will have to tune in to discover the twist that occurs in the film's final scene.

The film is worth watching as a historical artifact when the streets of Los Angeles were actually clean.
