First Glimpse Of Ted And The Mother Together
slightlymad2225 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of the final season is a bit of a mixed bag.

Plot In A Paragraph: It is Friday 12.00 pm. Fifty four hours before the wedding. Robin tries to stop Barney's brother James from revealing a secret, in case it freaks Barney out, due to a two hundred year old family curse. Lily orders a special package at the hotel and Marshall asks the universe for help.

The running joke with Lilys package was good fun, and I'm enjoying Robert Belushi's role as Linus.

Barney conversation with Robin in James's hotel room was lovely, and it's clear Robin does not have faith their marriage will work.

But the best part of the episode was a touching scene with Ted sat alone doing the crossword. And future Ted and the kids mother (Cristin Milioti) sat at the same table (one year later) our first glimpse of them together shows they have very good chemistry together

Cristin Milioti didn't have as much to do as one would hope this episode, but she is still lovely in her smaller role.

Coming Back (#9.2)
ComedyFan20109 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I like how we are going so slowly towards the wedding and they manage to add so many fun stories. This episode was also a very good one that I enjoyed.

I really hope in the next episode we get to see Marshall and Daphne traveling together in the car. This episode had already great scenes of the two of them when trying to get a car. And I am glad she ended up picking him up because I was sure she won't.

Lily was fun too, especially in my favorite scene with her where she tells that Barney's brother gets divorced. Another wonderful scene that followed it was Barney and Robin at the room of Barney's brother.

I must say I didn't care too much about Ted and the mother. I mean I never expected I will really like her, she seems so boring, prude and old school.

I actually love this series
misskatelacky14 January 2021
I see a lot of reviews saying the series goes down hill but I actually think this season is lovely. I love how the writers decided to make season 9 spread across one weekend, it's very clever. It gives season 9 a purpose, you couldn't fit much more into this series so I'm glad they spread it out this time. There aren't many stories left to tell so a "normal" season wouldn't have worked.

I want to should out to Roger Bart who I think is so funny in this episode, looking after Ted. I still think the comedy is great, the characters are wonderful and the story is amazing

Not the first kiss we deserved
axilishan-2815421 December 2022
I'm pissed off at the writers for throwing a random kiss (first on screen) shared by Ted and Tracy so casually. It was supposed to be special.

Marshall's kindness seemed a bit over the top.

The front desk stranger stole the show and Barney was legendary as always. The buildup is quite exciting I must say, but the Ted-Tracy clip just brought the excitement down.

Also, the writers shouldn't have confirmed Tracy to be the mother since it eliminates the element of surprise. It should have been more spontaneous. Have to watched the series till the end so maybe I'll change my mind.

Overall, in love with the series.

Yes, let's milk the dead cow some more
puzgolac7 June 2022
I am trying to avoid spoilers, so I have not looked ahead to see whether this is the case, but after seeing this episode I have a terrible feeling that this season will all be set during Barney and Robin's wedding which may just be the worst idea in a heap of bad ones they already did.

So now we have an almost real time account of the wedding and it is terrible. No jokes, no substance, just a horrible nothing that drags on and on and on. They are not just milking a dead cow, they are trying to milk a cow that has died, rotted, disintegrated and became a bunch of atoms scattered across the universe. No wonder the end result is nothing.

Also, whoever writes this junk obviously has absolutely no idea how to create realistic characters. I am not sure if the Marshall who, in this episode, is the kindest, nicest most trusting person in the world, is supposed to be the same person as the same sadistic sociopath who physically assaults and psychologically tortures one of his best friends over some "slap bet" in earlier episodes. Nice job, Shakespeare.

Absolute trash.

One of the worst episodes in a great show
abcprivateemail9 July 2023
One of the worst episodes in a great show... The ending of this episode was nicely done, and sweet, and I love how the writers intersperse different time periods... But that was only about two percent of the episode, and couldn't make up for the horrendous rest of the episode... Except for the funny exchange between Barney and Marshall on the phone. A hug chunk of time was wasted on the incredibly annoying Marshall trip across half the country story. I don't know if the actor playing Marshall was filming a movie or something and couldn't make it to set, so they worked around him remotely or something? I've heard him say he lost interest in playing that character in later seasons, and it shows. The whole trip was nothing but him being annoying, interacting with over-the-top obnoxious and annoying characters. In much of season 9, I fast-forward through Marshall scenes. The Barney gypsy curse mini-story in this episode was nearly equally dumb.
