The problem with a prolific show like this is bringing something new to the table . For a long time the format has been greedy drug taking muppet thinks they're going to make some very easy money by smuggling drugs only to get caught only to have a revisionary self justifying back story along the lines of " Oh I was a very nice , very naïve person and these nasty drug cartels put me up to it . None of it was my doing " . I'm charitable to show and award a slightly higher mark when the subject confirms that they knew what they were doing was wrong and they did suffer for it . Apart from that the show suffers from the usual a big bad drug cartel done it and ran away
The last couple of series have tried to change the format as in we've seen a Hasidic Jew try and become a kosher Pablo Escobar , a couple of anoraks hunt for wild orchids in Central America only to get kidnapped by bandits , people being captured by the VC in 'Nam , a man sneaking snakes on a plane and getting kidnapped by insurgents in Iraq . Variety is the spice of life so congrats to the producers for trying something different . Here they've done something entirely different and changed the whole format by featuring an episode of an American committing crimes in America and being sentenced to time in an American jail
Yes you heard that last bit right . The show is called BANGED UP ABROAD and features a native subject being sentenced to a native prison thereby contradicting the whole title of the show . There's not even an elemen of cheating involved down to the aforementioned that it's an American criminal . Perhaps if it was a Briton or an Australian or a European being sentenced you could possibly get away with it , but they weren't so it's a cheat . Of and we get the usual " I just committed crimes to get money for my son so I'm not really a criminal and I didn't deserve what happened to me " Grow a pair you thieving scumbag
