Les does a joke about his wife's mother laying at death's door, and thanks to the advice of panellist Claire Rayner "I pulled her through". The mother of Les's first wife had actually died in 1975, and Les had privately decided to stop doing "mother-in-law" jokes as part of his act to avoid hurting her. However, Les revealed in his autobiography "A Clown Too Many" that his mother-in-law had grabbed his arm while sick and said to him "don't ever forget me when you do your 'turn'." Les continued to do the jokes in tribute, seeing it as "keeping her name alive".
Les continues the joke of episodes being a week apart by introducing a panellist as "Lynsey de Paul once again, how quickly the week has flown". This indicates that the episode must have been filmed on the same day as Episode #7.7 (1984) or Episode #7.13 (1984).
Fifth in the BBC-only chart, with 10.6 million viewers.
The first episode to be screened for two weeks, with the previous Friday night taken up with a live edition of Match of the Day (1964).
