L.A.-based Wild Sheep Content, headed by former Netflix international honcho Erik Barmack, is adapting German No.1 bestseller “When Butterflies Fly Loops” for Mexico, as it branches out into unscripted with Adal Ramones, Mexico’s No.1 standup, and boards Lucía Puenzo’s gangster epic, “The Gunwoman (Pepita’s Legend).”
Starring Luisana Lopilato, and just announced, “Gunwoman” reps a “giant story” account, said Puenzo, of real life mobster Margarita Di Tulio, which is backed by a far-ranging consortium of good and great players in and outside Argentina.
All three titles see Wild Sheep driving ever deeper into big IP in highly packaged and star-laden projects, while branching out in sectors and territorial reach – strategies which may well become text-book tactics as streamers and broadcasters pull back on commissions or buys over much of international.
Their announcement comes three days before Jimena Rodríguez, producer of “Three Idiots” and head of Mexico...

This year's lineup is one of their most impressive yet, with a number of features and shorts from all over the world. Stars: Hayate, Asami, Kirk Geiger, Mana Sakura, Noriaki Kamata, Katrina Leigh Waters, David Sakurai | Written and Directed by Kurando Mitsutake
Kurando Mitsutake is not a name that will spring to mind of many an action movie fan, yet he has helmed a number of films that not only push the envelope of action but of exploitation. His most famous movie, until now, was undoubtedly Gun Woman, a crazy tale of a woman turned into an assassin against her will- complete with gun parts sew Inside her body (to evade a pat down obviously). Now Mitsutake gives us his take on that most old-school of action movie themes… revenge!
When Karate master Kenji’s (Hayate) young sister (Mana Sakura) is kidnapped by a dangerous cult, and taken to the U.S. he will stop at nothing to find her. Partnered with a mysterious shot-gun toting partner, Kenji must use his mastery...

I've got a crazy fun trailer for you to watch today for a B-movie martial arts action thriller called Karate Kill. Yes, the title is a riff on the classic film Karate Kid, and the poster even features the tagline, "He's No Mr. Miyagi." The "He" that the tagline is referring to is a Karate master named Kenji. He's the main character of the film and this is the synopsis:
When Karate master Kenji’s (Hayate) young sister (Mana Sakura) is kidnapped by a dangerous cult, and taken to the U.S. he will stop at nothing to find her. Partnered with a mysterious shot-gun toting partner, Kenji must use his mastery of Karate to dismantle the cult members one by one in spectacular and bloody fashion, until he finds his sister.
The movie was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kurando Mitsutake (Gun Woman, Blind Wolf) and it's also described as being Tarantino meets Cannon Films.

Back in 2009, I caught a little movie called Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf at a beer-soaked midnight screening at the Asian Film Festival of Dallas. I was tipsy, but I was also blown away by this super fun slice of retro exploitation fun from a director named Kurando Mitsutake. Two years ago I stepped into a screening of a film called Gun Woman at Texas Frightmare Weekend and was absolutely enamored of it's sleazy Cannon Films vibe and a powerhouse performance from the sweetheart of Japanese splatter, Asami. This film was also directed by Kurando Mistutake. So imagine my delight when I got to interview Kurando last year for the dual Blu-ray releases of these films in the Us and he told me that...

Texas Frightmare Weekend, the largest horror convention in the Southwest United States, has announced the first wave of their film screenings for the 2016 event. In addition to the multitude of fantastic guests and vendors Tfw attracts every single year, they've become one of my favorite venues to see new underground horror films. Past Texas premieres have included Kurando Mitsutake's Gun Woman, Astron-6's Father's Day, Nishimura Yoshihiro's Helldriver, and dozens more. This year the first wave includes several eagerly awaited by gorehounds nationwide as well as some lesser known films that are sure to please! Texas Frightmare Weekend 2016 takes place April 29-May 1 at the Hyatt Regency Dfw Hotel in Irving, Texas....

Now available on Blu-ray from Scream Factory is the revenge thriller, Gun Woman, and we've been provided with three copies to give away to Daily Dead readers.
"A brilliant doctor vows revenge on a crazy sadistic killer following the murder of his wife… and devises the perfect assassination plan by turning a young woman into the most lethal assassin the world has ever seen. This outrageous plan will unfold in the killer's heavily fortified underground lair. The lethal assassin will be placed into a temporal state of death and send into the facility as a dead body… but when she wakes, it is everyone else in the compound who will be deprived of their lives.
But there is one catch. What will she use as a weapon? The staff of the underground facility is armed with weapons that have fingerprint authentication systems so it's impossible for her to use their weapons.

Pardon the language, but f**k me… Gun Woman is my kind of movie! Wild, crazy, sexy, bloody and bad-ass are just a small selection of over the top adjectives I’d use to describe this movie, which almost single-handely revives the classic exploitation Cat III “label” that many a movie fan in the 90s knew was a mark of a great Far East flick (when I say great I actually mean exploitative and packed with sex and violence – which is great! Right?).
The film has one hell of a crazy plot. You see there’s a doctor, who’s wife was raped and murdered by the son of a prominent businessman (know only in the movie as ‘Hamazaki’s Son’). Said son likes nothing more than beating the crap out of women – before,...

This week, Mitsutake Kurando's Gun Woman was shown at the Sitges festival, part of its worldwide tour since its world premier in Yubari (where our own James Marsh saw and reviewed it). The undisputed centerpiece, title character and star of Gun Woman is Japanese actress Asami, who impressively lifts the film to a higher level whenever she is on-screen. Her career path as an actress has been a strange one, starting in the hardcore adult industry and becoming more and more mainstream by way of extreme splattergore. But from the very first film I saw her in, she's managed to make me laugh. There is a kind of mischievous goofy face she can pull, combined with a talent for comedic timing, which renders me powerless...

Asami is back in action. Our favourite low-budget action heroine takes the lead in Kurando Mitsutake's exploitation movie, Gun Woman. Following scene-stealing performances in Dead Sushi, The Machine Girl, Rape Zombie 1, 2 & 3, and Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead, everybody's favourite award-winning Japanese model, actress and former Av Idol will be appearing alongside Kairi Narita and Noriaki Kamata in this epic revenge thriller. Check out the trailer below to see if it's missing anything. We're pretty sure they've got all bases covered. Asami has already kicked up a storm in the U.S. and UK viewers will be pleased to learn that Gun Woman is set for a DVD release date of December 29, 2014. What a way to see in the New Year. The comments section awaits. I’ll get the ball rolling with the movies/TV my eyeballs took in this weekend. The first of two Fantasia Fest films I watched this weekend, Gun Woman is also the least successful. It’s a revenge tale that leaves you disliking almost everyone up to and including the man pursuing revenge. The only real exception to your distaste is the titular character who’s bought, abused, trained to kill and then subject to a surgery that leaves pieces of a gun sewn into her flesh. The plan — an unnecessarily elaborate and poorly conceived effort involving a necrophilia club at a nuclear waste facility — unfolds with a level of crass exploitation...

How much more physicality survivalist are men compared to women? History has shown time and time again that when wars erupt for national supremacy or resources, battles on the front are fought by the male sex, not the female one. Men’s tennis asks its contestants to win more sets than the women. Men bodybuilders look so much more imposing than their female counterparts. The list can go on and on and yet for all the qualities men claim to that denote their physical superiority, there is one, albeit one that doesn’t come in service very often, that provides women with the clear-cut advantage.
