Announced just this past Thursday at New York Comic Con 2016, Warner Brothers Interactive unveiled DC Legends, an action packed mobile RPG. The free to play game is scheduled to debut in November, allowing players to create teams of some of their favorite DC characters to battle the evil forces of Nekron in a story that’s a bit of a twist on the classic Blackest Night epic. I was able to get a few minutes of developer Sean Dugan’s time to talk about the new game.
One thing that immediately stood out to me was Sean’s overwhelming enthusiasm about the game. DC Legends is already in a soft beta (testing phase) in a few countries, and the development team is absolutely ecstatic with the data and feedback they’ve been getting. Nothing is falling on deaf ears here, as WB Interactive team are reviewing everything they can to...

Three years ago this week mobile video game publisher released Marvel’s Puzzle Quest (Shortened to Mpq) to raving reviews. The puzzle match 3 style of game play was nothing new to the now mobile game powerhouse, as they had previously published the hugely successful Puzzle Quest standalone series. D3 Go!, working with developers Demiurge Studios, found the perfect way to blend the Marvel lore with the exciting addicting game play of the puzzle quest series. Players could choose teams of three of their favorite Marvel characters and go up against an intelligent A.I. or other players. Over the years D3 Go! has made various tweaks listening to their fans and crafting a truly excellent puzzle game, that while it has some money required aspects makes sure to also not be a “pay to win” style of “freemium” game.

Many Americans are split on Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest, but comedian Steve Harvey lent his support for the football player in a series of tweets Wednesday. Imo the anthem protest isn't anti government/military, it's drawing attention to how the country isn't living up to the words. (1/2) #Shms — Steve Harvey (@IAmSteveHarvey) September 14, 2016 "Land of the Free" aint true for all sadly. Free to go to the store and buy skittles? Free to play in the park? Free to just be? #Shms (2/2) — Steve Harvey (@IAmSteveHarvey) September 14, 2016 Aint that what America about though? Being able to express your opinion? I.

Over the past eight years we’ve seen quite a number of remarkable documentaries about video game culture including Seth Gordon’s engrossing documentary about the quest for a Donkey Kong record and the feature-length Free to Play that follows three professional gamers from around the world as they compete for a million dollar prize in the first Dota 2 International Tournament. If you’re like me and you love video games and documentary filmmaking equally, you’re going to take an interest in Man Vs. Snake: The Long Twisted Tale of Nibbler. It tells the outrageous and inspirational true story of one man’s quest for the highest video game score ever recorded: In 1984, 16 year-old Timothy McVey walked into the legendary Twin Galaxies arcade in Ottumwa Iowa; and 44 ½ hours later he walked away with the highest score in video game history – on a single quarter. The film, directed by Tim Kinzy and Andrew Seklir,...

ESports deserves a better documentary than this dull and sentimental celebration of competitive gaming
ESports – competitive team video gaming played out in front of a stadiums full of fans – deserves its Hoop Dreams. Professional players, showing off their prowess in games such as League of Legends and Dota 2, vie for giant prize money in tournaments watched online by millions. Corruption and match-fixing allegations have dogged the sport, like any other. The subject has spice and drama aplenty. Yet All Work All Play ignores all that for dry praise of the sport’s progress, peppered with the odd bit of soupy sentimentality. Gaming has inspired very good documentaries in recent years (Indie Game: The Movie, Free to Play), made by film-makers that understand character and plot. But All Work All Play makes for a dull, corporate documentary.

Game: Dungeons and Dragons: Neverwinter
Platform: PC/Xbox One/PS4
Genre: Free to Play Mmo/Microtransactions
It's not often you see an Mmo make its way to consoles, much less so early into a next gen console's lifespan. When I first saw Dungeons and Dragons: Neverwinter was free to play, I was immediately skeptical. Just how does an Mmo make money without a subscription model? I downloaded it, ready to dump the files from my hard drive the moment I felt like "Free to play" wasn't really free to play.
It's lasted a week now, and I couldn't be happier with this game.
First off, this is a game you're going to love if you are familiar at all with the Dungeons and Dragons lore. It's been around 7-8 years since I last sat in on a game night, but even I remembered some of the spells, races, and monsters found in this game.

Film ‘Jupiter Ascending’ rises to absurd and hilarious heights
That sound you’re hearing is a massive sigh of relief from David Lynch. He no longer holds the dubious distinction of producing the most expensive B-movie in the history of Hollywood. That honor now belongs to The Wachowskis, whose Jupiter Ascending has officially displacedDune at the top (or bottom) of the heap. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however. Jupiter Ascending not only looks spectacular, it’s a laugh riot. Ridiculous dialogue, hammy performances, and enough mythology to baffle Zeus make this disaster a must-see for all lovers of cheese… read the full article.
The Conversation: Drew Morton and Landon Palmer Discuss ‘The Killing’
Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing (1956) is not my favorite work by the visionary director. In fact, the film probably wouldn’t even make it onto a list of my top five Kubrick films. Yet, with...

As a hobby, gaming can create some interesting and disquieting juxtapositions to our existence. On the one hand, it is an activity which stimulates the brain, expands the boundaries of critical thinking, and allows people to de-stress or work through the problems and frustrations of their day in a world where the consequences of their decisions are not so dire as their reality. Despite these positive factors however, gaming is still often frowned upon by a vast degree of society as a childish activity which is not to be taken seriously.
As a fairly young medium, gaming and its proponents are used to this sort of judgment, mostly content to shrug it off for the time being and wait for the inevitable day when gaming becomes the norm for all of society, much like what occurred in the past with film and television.

The developers at Valve have created some of the most influential titles in video game history, but the company's latest project doesn't require a controller. Valve has released Free To Play, a feature-length documentary about the video game Dota 2, on YouTube, Steam, and iTunes. Free To Play follows several players as they prepare for the Dota 2 International Tournament, which offers a million dollar prize to its champion. In particular, the film focuses on three plays from three different continents, delving into their personal lives and their experiences within the eSports community. Valve's choice to distribute Free To Play on YouTube presents the film to its target audience as directly as possible. Dota 2 is a sequel to the game that inspired League of Legends, which is one of the most popular games on both YouTube and Twitch. It's the second time in the past few months a documentary publisher has aimed...

"We didn't want to give people a carbon copy of what we did last time," director Kevin Tancharoen tells me about his team's goals in putting together a second season of the gritty web series, "Mortal Kombat: Legacy." The first season, assembled on what would be considered an ambitious fan film budget with the participation of actors like Jheri Ryan ("Star Trek: Voyager") and Michael Jai White ("Black Dynamite," "Spawn"), set out to assemble a handful...
