- [first lines]
- Alice: Once upon a time - or so the story has been told - a boy became acquainted with a life under water; or, as the locals would tell you, a boy became a fish.
- Spencer Koll: Everyone's always asking you what you wanna do, what you wanna make. The Marine Corp just gives you that, and you don't have to think about it. It's not your decision when you're part of something bigger.
- Alice: Well, being a part of "something bigger" doesn't make it better. You know that, right?
- Toad: I mean, you can't be nice all of your life, and if this feels real, you might as well follow it. Go for it. I mean, that's what you always said to us. "Just follow what's real." Well... real isn't always nice.
- Spencer Koll: [with blood on his shirt] I fucked up. I fucked up, I fucked up. I fucked up. I'm fucked up. I'm fucked up. I'm fucked up! I'M SO FUCKED UP! FUUUUUUUUUCK! Fuck!
- [Spencer weeps]
- Alice: [delicately, taking his hand] Spencer?
- Spencer Koll: Yeah.
- Alice: This, uh... Is this a pretty normal date night for you?
- Alice: Let's do it again.
- Spencer Koll: You just gotta give me a minute to reload.
- Alice: I meant, um...
- Mailer: Will you at least grow a right nut, Paul? You don't have to go for both. I know that's a lot to ask from you, but just invest in half the package.
- Spencer Koll: This is Heaven, or a dream? Is this the book? Alice, are... are these the people from the book? Come on. You know the answer.
- Alice: Just stop asking questions. It's just a place like any other.
