After the mid-season finale, in which Marie Laveau's friends and family were massacred, it seems now she and Fiona have a Thelma and Louise type relationship. They muse over their past together, plan a bloody future, and for the first time in eons, Marie even admits the kindness that Fiona has shown her in these dark of times, has touched her. But, while Fiona seemingly may have a soft spot for Marie, it seems her impending death hardens her toward everyone else.
Topic 1: A New War
First matter of business is Fiona and Marie's plan to attack Delphi Trust, Hank's father's company, and the HQ for witch hunters. Now, being that Marie's life has just been threatened, she is ready for a direct attack for they have all the information they need, but Fiona slows her down a bit and reminds her that Delphi Trust is a multi-billion organization and them flying in there on their brooms isn't going to lead to the results they want. So, they decide to enact a spell to first hit them financially and the raid by the government doesn't lead to mass speculation on who or why, but reminds Hank's father, and his right hand man, what their true business is.
Topic 2: The Battle to Be The Supreme
But, as the adults prepare for their war, so do the girls. With the title of supreme as prize, we find Misty Day, Nan and, a back in the running, Madison amongst our contenders. However, with everyone focused on Misty, it seems Nan and Madison are going to be forced to try and outdo the seemingly ordained one.
For Madison, she thinks doing the 7 wonders is the trick, but before she goes into even doing such a tasks, she decides to confront her opponent Misty Day. Now, mind you, Madison pretty much is a mini-Fiona in various ways. She has the ability to manipulate people without a spell, is materialistic, selfish, and all the other traits which may be interesting to watch when it is Fiona, but isn't done as well by Madison. And seemingly, her wanting to be serious about becoming supreme festers out of her becoming envious of Misty who gets to meet her idol Stevie Nicks. So, while taking a stroll with Misty through New Orleans, following a funeral, they end up in a local graveyard and while Madison tries to have Misty drop a shawl Stevie Nicks gave her into a casket, she decides perhaps it is best to put Misty in the casket instead. So, with a whack to the head, Misty gets knocked out and Madison shows her use of powers. Mind you, she does show that she can raise the dead before the incident with Misty, but with Misty seemingly out of the way, you can bet she will no longer be so conservative with her powers.
Leading to us speaking on Nan. Thus far, Nan has been the nice one of the witches. She hasn't done any real harm to anyone, and though she never really played a large role, she has always tried to defuse any tension when around. However, upon discovery of Luke's death, much less Luke's mother cremating him, making it so he can't be revived, she snaps. The would-be nice supreme decides, that Joan must be punished, for she killed Luke, and she punishes Joan by making her drink bleach. Meanwhile, Zoe watches in horror and is held, by Nan's powers, across the room so that she can't stop Nan nor help Joan.
Topic 3: The One Wish Which Can't Be Granted
But, while Nan wishes to become supreme, and even believes herself to be a nice alternative to Fiona's current reign, or Madison's possible, her decision to even step on the line which would cross Marie ends up being fatal. You see, in this episode we finally learn what keeps Marie so youthful after 300+ years, and that is because she has long sold her soul to Papa Legba, and with her soul taken, and a yearly gift of a baby seemingly, she gets to keep her youth. Now, naturally Fiona wants in on this, but when Papa comes to see her, he informs her that she is without soul, so she has nothing to trade. Leading to Fiona to reconsider Plan A which is simply to kill the girls who sap at her lifespan. So, with both Fiona and Marie seeing Nan is potential trouble, they drown her and Marie even gets to save a baby's life, for Papa seems to take Nan with him instead. More so perhaps because he is amused by the bond of Fiona and Marie more than anything.
And while those two bond, Cordelia seemingly is falling apart. Fiona blames Cordelia for most of their troubles, despite Marie confessing she hired Hank, and with no husband and her mother being cold to her again, she feels like she has nothing. And we learn she doesn't even have powers now, so she is really in a rut, one in which even Myrtle can't bring her out.
Overall
With the exception of Stevie Nick's singing, there isn't anything bad about the episode. I mean, it is unfortunate how the battle to be the supreme is now basically Madison and Zoe, but with them being the most recognizable faces of the young counterpart of the cast, it shouldn't be too surprising. I do hope though that both battles, for the supreme title and between witches and the hunters, becomes more than a battle of words, for after the end of Fiona vs. Marie, I think they need to make up for the lost potential. Especially considering how they made Marie look so weak and vulnerable.
