As Martin Short says in the recently released Only Murders in the Building Sesaon 4 trailer, “somewhere lay a sniper’s nest,” and the identity of that sniper will prove even more difficult to discover in the latest installment of Hulu’s murder mystery series, which has expanded its star-studded cast quite a bit.
The “starriest season yet” will arrive this summer on Hulu, bringing back the original trio of sleuths as well as other characters who have been a part of their Arconia drama since the beginning.

Thanks to Netflix‘s upcoming animated series Exploding Kittens, Tom Ellis is trading his horns for a halo by becoming God after playing Lucifer Morningstar in the fan-favorite supernatural drama Lucifer. Netflix parted the heavens on Thursday to reveal an Exploding Kittens trailer, teasing the animated series based on the popular card game Matthew Inman, Elan Lee, and Shane Small created. Netflix’s Exploding Kittens is an adult animated series starring Tom Ellis and Sasheer Zamata as two rotund housecats on opposite ends of a holy war.
In Netflix’s Exploding Kittens trailer, God is transformed into Godcat (Tom Ellis) and cast down to Earth to live with a dysfunctional family while reconnecting with his humanity. Meanwhile, Beelzebub lives next door in the form of a tubby void cat prone to naps in sunbeams and zoomies at ungodly hours.

He’s not just a cat, he’s God.
In Exploding Kittens, the eternal conflict between Good and Evil gets a bit hiss-terical when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth in the bodies of chunky house cats. Starring Tom Ellis (Lucifer)as Godcat and Sasheer Zamata (Home Economics) as Devilcat, the adult animated comedy series comes from showrunners Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman, founder of the webcomic The Oatmeal as well as the co-creator of the Exploding Kittens card game, which is now also available as a mobile game. Inman is also an executive producer on the show, along with Bandera Entertainment (formed by comedy kings Mike Judge and Greg Daniels) and Chernin Entertainment.
“I always had ambitions of turning The Oatmeal into some kind of TV series, because it's a webcomic with actual stories,” Inman tells Tudum. “I never thought it would come...

Eco-horror isn’t a sub-genre that gets talked about a ton unfortunately. It can be anything from animals attacking due to their sudden craving of human flesh like Grizzly or even just due to man not putting enough respect on the name of nature like in Long Weekend. The hey day of these is undoubtedly the 70s with things like Prophecy, The Swarm, Piranha, Phase 4, and a few other standouts. While the output certainly slowed down, there are more than a few standouts in the late 90s and even 21st century. We can’t seem to stop screwing up the planet and as we do, we get reminded that the planet may just fight back in ways like what is shown in Day After Tomorrow or to a hilarious degree in The Happening. A unique one that failed to make its budget back, even with good reviews and scores, is...

Stephen Falk’s Fxx underrated comedy “You’re the Worst,” which ran from 2014 to 2019, is a rom-com at heart … and it’s also raunchy, mean, deeply strange, and even off-putting at times. It’s a show where the central couple, Gretchen Cutler and Jimmy Shive-Overly — Aya Cash and Chris Geere in roles they were seemingly born to play — first meet at a wedding where Jimmy just got kicked out and Gretchen is stealing a gift. Both of their characters are established in their very first interaction. Gretchen asks Jimmy for a cigarette, and he’s irritated because they’re “expensive.” The incredulous yet brazen way Cash looks at Geere in response is the blueprint for Gretchen and Jimmy’s dynamic going forward.

Julia Garner, the three-time Emmy-winning co-star of “Ozark,” looks to be joining Marvel’s next big bet, the relaunch of the First Family of Comics, “Fantastic Four.” As per Deadline, she’ll be appearing as the grooviest of villains, the Silver Surfer. But before you can reach for your podcast mic and shout about how producers are ruining movies by making them all woke, please note that a female version of the Silver Surfer, known as Shalla-Bal, does exist in various splinters of the comics’ multiverse. So there.

Writing a feature film is easy. All you need is one gimmicky logline, as cheap and single-serving-disposable as a coffee pod from the complimentary hotel room K-Cup spinner. Once you stumble upon one of these so-called “high concept” ideas, the script practically writes, sells and produces itself. It’s creative work for stupid babies, as all filmmakers will surely agree–totally unlike, in other words, the act of conceptualizing an entire episodic series, a demonstration of storytelling virtuosity so complex and adult it straddles the border between ancient Euclidean geometry and New Age witchcraft.
Okay, so maybe that’s a little extreme. But for aspiring series creators and showrunners, structuring a workable, potentially long-running television concept requires imagination and problem-solving on both the micro- and macro- levels–a mastery of tone, plot and characterization across variable interlocking units of temporal storytelling: scenes, dramatic acts, full episodes, multi-episode arcs and complete seasons.

The final season of "Stranger Things" is down one team member: actor Eduardo Franco recently confirmed to "The Steve Varley Show" (via ScreenRant) that his character on the Netflix juggernaut, stoner Argyle, won't be back for season 5. "I never got a phone call, so yeah, I think that's it," Franco told Varley after the host mentioned fan concerns that he was missing from the first cast photo for the new season. Production has reportedly already begun on season 5, so unless Matt and Ross Duffer have a last-minute plan to get Franco back in the show later down the line, it seems his character will be absent during the show's endgame.
It's not exactly surprising that "Stranger Things" would want to cut down on its cast, especially given that season 4 earned some criticism for its bloating, multiple plotlines and sprawling casts. Yet Franco's character, hippie pizza delivery guy Argyle, was one...

This story about the costume design of “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” first appeared in the Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Roku’s “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” is far from a true story—yet even within a zany universe in which Madonna is captured by Pablo Escobar, you still have to be true to the time period. And if your subject, one of the most beloved parodists of all time, is also a writer and producer on the project, you’ve got to nail the details. “Al wanted it to feel really normal and natural and not too pumped up,” “Weird” costume designer Wendy Benbrook said. “He didn’t want it to be over-the-top. The third chapter of "The Last of Us" doesn't give fans a straightforward adaptation of the beloved Naughty Dog game on which it's based. Instead, series co-creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin deliver an absolutely emotionally leveling 75 minutes of television. Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) are no longer a caustic couple whose relationship comes to a bitter end. Instead, they're the subject of one of the most delicately told self-contained love stories I've ever seen.
Episode three of "The Last of Us" is groundbreaking for a few reasons. In the long run, it'll hopefully be remembered as proof that not only can video games be properly adapted for TV (which has been proven before), but...

Jennifer Lopez has long been on record as a lifelong romantic, and in the last year — with weddings both on and offscreen — she’s proven it. But sometimes, it’s ok to say “I don’t.”
“Shotgun Wedding” was proposed so long ago that Lopez has been matched with three different partners: Her first costar was Ryan Reynolds, who dropped out and now remains solely as an executive producer. He was replaced by Armie Hammer, whose personal controversies soon sent him in an entirely different direction. Somehow Josh Duhamel caught the bouquet, leaving him with the thankless role of Tom, a “groomzilla” who pays more attention to his pineapple centerpieces than to his fed-up fiancée, Darcy (Lopez).
There is no need for any screenwriter to rehash lazy wedzilla tropes ever again, regardless of gender. But Tom’s stress is at least a little understandable, with two demanding families sharing space...

In this era of so-called peak TV, television networks, cable channels, and streaming services continue to disgorge a head-spinning array of content on a seemingly daily basis. Watching all this content is simply a physical impossibility for one person. Given the sheer volume of television shows competing for viewers' attention, it's not surprising that a select few shows will inevitably rise to the top while others face the cruel axe of cancellation.
Yet this has always been the case since not every TV series deserves to become a hit. However, there have also been many shows that were high-quality but never quite managed to find the audiences that they should have.
This is particularly true when it comes to the situation comedy, which is a genre that dates back to the earliest days of television and has remained a staple with viewers. Some sitcoms, such as "Friends," "Seinfeld," and "The Office,...

April Shih and Jen Goyne Blake first met in 2017 at the Sundance Institute’s Episodic Story Lab, a program where up-and-coming TV writers workshop their pilot scripts in the idyllic environment of the Utah mountain resort. Blake, who had been a script analyst at William Morris, was there as the founding director of the lab, and Shih, who would go on to be a staff writer on shows like You’re the Worst, Mrs. America and Fargo, was there to work on a dramedy called Tilted.
“We saw the benefit of being able to go to a space somewhere in nature, away from your normal routine, and how that immediately drops you into your creative process,” says Shih of the Sundance Lab experience. Over the years, the duo stayed in touch and mused about working together someday and re-creating some of the magic they’d felt in Utah.

Small towns have always been great fodder for comedy. Consider Gilmore Girls’ Stars Hollow or the title location of Schitt’s Creek. Yet Fox’s new mockumentary-style sitcom about Flatch, a fictitious middle-of-nowhere Ohio town with 1,526 people, operates on the premise that these places are unbearably boring. Young adults Kelly (Chelsea Holmes) and Shrub (Sam Straley) are our primary tour guides in Welcome to Flatch, a series that revolves around these so-called “walking disappointments”—two-dimensional cousins and best friends bonded by their lack of smarts, steady jobs and other friends—instead of the more colorful characters that usually populate sitcoms. It’s not as if the show isn’t good for the occasional chuckle: Aya Cash stands out as local newswoman Cheryl, whose can-do attitude propels her to track down the town sign when it is stolen by neighboring rivals in Pockton. But mostly Flatch wallows in bleakness, consumed by...

The most interesting thing about the new comedy “Welcome to Flatch” just might be the way in which Fox is rolling it out. While the pilot episode will premiere March 17 on the broadcast network before airing weekly, the first seven (7!) episodes will also be available to stream on FoxNow and Hulu earlier that same day, thus giving curious viewers a chance to marathon half the season well before those who keep tuning in the traditional way.
It might seem an odd approach at first glance, but the vast majority of comedies have always needed a few episodes to figure out the particular rhythms of their dialogue and cast chemistry — something “Welcome to Flatch” director Paul Feig knows well enough, having come in to “The Office” at the beginning of Season 2, right as the eventual smash hit was really beginning to gel. So if Fox wants to find a new way...

Lou Diamond Phillips and Daughter Gracie Phillips to Guest Star on Fox’s ‘Cleaning Lady’ (Exclusive)
Lou Diamond Phillips and his daughter, Gracie Phillips, have signed on to guest star on the upcoming Fox drama “The Cleaning Lady,” Variety has learned exclusively. This will mark the first time the father-daughter duo has acted together onscreen.
The series stars Elodie Yung as Thony, a whip-smart doctor who comes to the U.S. for a medical treatment to save her ailing son, Luca (Sebastien and Valentino Lasalle). But when the system fails and pushes her into hiding, she refuses to be beaten down and marginalized. Instead, she becomes a cleaning lady for the mob and starts playing the game by her own rules.
Lou will play Joe Fabroa, described as a charming, handsome, self-centered, luxury car salesman. He also happens to be the anonymous bone marrow donor for Luca that backed out at the last minute after Thony travelled from the Philippines for a lifesaving transplant for her son.

Buried the week of release in a New Yorker profile of series leads Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, the trades verified the news and a narrative for “why” soon formed: Erskine and Konkle wanted to end the series after three seasons, but the pandemic — which caused a delay in production and split Season 2 in half — sped up the timeline. Hulu reportedly wants more episodes, leaving the door open for a return someday, but both stars are in-demand, lining up acting gigs and creative commitments elsewhere.
Thankfully, the writers, directors, co-creators, and stars made their decision in time to film a proper ending. Episode 15, “Home,” is a fitting, offbeat series finale, even if the preceding episodes play slightly more melancholic, given the news, and the final scene (which is spoiled in the...
