Anne Hathaway appears to be ready for battle on the set of her new movie Flowervale Street.
The 41-year-old actress was spotted filming a scene on Thursday (April 18) in Atlanta, Georgia.
For it, she was splattered down in blood and wielding a fireplace poker as a weapon.
Keep reading to find out more…
Anne had her hair pulled back and was dressed simply in a green tank top and jeans while filming.
Not much is known about the movie, which also stars Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella, just yet. It’s from It Follows filmmaker David Robert Mitchell and appears to be set in the past based on the outfits that we’ve seen on set.
We got our first photos of Anne and Ewan filming together earlier this month!
We will continue to update you as we learn more about Flowervale Street.
In the meantime, Anne recently gave a tell-all interview,...

Remember Quibi? The short-lived streaming service-turned-punchline, which vastly overestimated how many people felt compelled to watch bite-sized shows and movies on their phones, seems to have done one thing right before being folded into the Roku Channel: allowing creators to retain ownership of their work after a two-year exclusivity window. Not content to let her 13-part thriller series “The Stranger” disappear along with the platform on which it debuted, “The Killing” creator Veena Sud recut the project into a feature film alongside editor Philip Fowler. Gone are the 8-minute episodes named after the hour in which they take place (beginning with 7 p.m. and ending at 7 a.m.), replaced by a 98-minute Hulu feature that shows no sign of having been overhauled.
Six days after moving to Los Angeles with her dog Pebbles, rideshare driver Clare (Maika Monroe) picks up Carl E. (Dane DeHaan) from a mansion that doesn’t belong to him.

I still have fond memories of gathering around the TV with my family on Sunday nights to watch Veena Sud's captivating TV series The Killing (based on Forbrydelsen by Søren Sveistrup), so I'm especially thrilled that Veena's 2020 Quibi series The Stranger (starring Maika Monroe as a rideshare driver who encounters a killer client played by Dane DeHaan) has been recut and re-released as a feature film that's now streaming on Hulu!
Daily Dead had the pleasure of catching up with Veena in a new video interview to discuss the unique multi-year journey of this new version of The Stranger, including the importance of co-owning the copyright to the project, restructuring The Stranger as a feature film, and working with Maika Monroe, Dane DeHaan, Avan Jogia, and their canine co-star Preston!

Back in 1999, Joshua Leonard made his acting debut in the now-iconic found-footage film “The Blair Witch Project.” In the last 25 years he’s directed five of his own films and starred in dozens of others, but is still fighting to be taken seriously in Hollywood.
At last week’s CinemaCon, Lionsgate and Blumhouse announced the development of a”The Blair Witch Project” reboot. Leonard’s face was on the press release — but in an April 12 social media post, he said he knew nothing about the project.
“This is My face on a press release for a film being made by two major studios — both I’ve worked for, both I respect,” Leonard wrote on Facebook. “The Weird Part is that I didn’t know anything about it until a friend sent me a ‘congrats’ screenshot yesterday. Filmmaker Parker Finn has experienced a career start that most can only dream of. After his 11-minute horror short "Laura Hasn't Slept" screened at SXSW 2020, Finn signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to adapt it into a feature-length film, "Smile," which stars Sosie Bacon as a psychotherapist who becomes targeted by a sadistic demon. After witnessing a patient's suicide, she's plagued by hallucinations of people she knows staring at her with very creepy smiles, and finds herself unable to trust anything she sees or hears.
"Smile" grossed more than $217 million at the box office, a massive success given its $17 million budget, and a sequel was soon greenlit, with Finn returning as writer and director. Kyle Gallner, whose character survived the last movie and was implied to be the demon's next target, has returned for "Smile 2," and is joined by new cast members Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula,...

“Paranormal Activity” juggernaut Blumhouse is returning to the Og found footage franchise, “The Blair Witch Project.”
During CinemaCon 2024, Lionsgate announced a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse to reimagine other horror classics from the Lionsgate library, starting with the iconic 1999 indie. No other specific titles from the library were unveiled on during Wednesday’s CinemaCon presentation.
“I’m very grateful to Adam and the team at Lionsgate for letting us play in their sandbox. I’m a huge admirer of ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ which brought the idea of found footage horror to mainstream audiences and became a true cultural phenomenon,” Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum said. “I don’t think there would have been a ‘Paranormal Activity’ had there not first been a ‘Blair Witch,’ so this feels like a truly special opportunity and I’m excited to see where it leads.”

From a certain perspective, monster movies might not seem to be as relevant during monstrous times. But in an age when our fears seem larger than life and the world constantly seems as though it’s on the brink of collapse, the best examples of the genre can almost assume a documentary-like authenticity, reflecting our reality as vividly as vérité ever could.
“The Babadook” might be about a demon that pops out of a children’s book, but no recent film does a better job of capturing the acute reality of living with grief. “Cloverfield” follows a gaggle of pre-Instagram model millennials as they’re chased around Manhattan by a bug-eyed colossus, but few of the somber post-9/11 dramas do a better job of distilling the heartsick chaos of watching your hometown try to make sense of a senseless attack. “The Village” is...

It’s been almost exactly one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review Here), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but everything has been quiet since then. During a recent interview with The Six O’Clock Show, Crowe confirmed that a sequel is in development – and that The Pope’s Exorcist was actually meant to be chapter one in a trilogy!
As it turns out, things have been quiet on the Pope’s Exorcist front because there was a behind-the-scenes shake-up with the studio executives, but it sounds like Crowe still has hopes that the trilogy is going to happen. He told The Six O’Clock Show (with thanks to MovieWeb for the transcription), “(A sequel) is in discussion at the moment. The...

In April 2020, “The Stranger,” the story of a driver who picks up the rideshare passenger from hell, debuted on Quibi with the world in lockdown. Like most of the bite-sized pieces of entertainment that premiered on the service it came and went without much fanfare, a fate that ultimately was shared by Quibi itself. Launched by Jeffrey Katzenberg with the idea of making short pieces of content that could be consumed on smartphones by people in transit, Quibi had the misfortune of launching as Covid-19 was leading the world into an extended period of couch potato-dom.
“Obviously, the timing was unfortunate,” says Veena Sud, the writer, director and show-runner of “The Stranger.” “But Jeffrey was very generous in supporting all of us filmmakers over the course of making our shows. It just didn’t succeed.”
But “The Stranger” has a fresh chance to connect with audiences who may have missed it the first time around.

A year has passed since it was announced that Anne Hathaway had signed on to star in a mysterious project It Follows director David Robert Mitchell is making for Warner Bros. Pictures, Jackson Pictures, and J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot. Since then, we’ve heard that Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery have signed on to star in the film alongside Hathaway… all that time, the film has remained untitled. Until today. Deadline reports that this mysterious project is officially titled Flowervale Street. It also has a release date: May 16, 2025. This puts it in direct competition with M3GAN 2.0.

David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is directing a genre movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot that’s so secretive we didn’t even have a title. Until now. And we also have a release date!
Deadline reports today that the mysterious event movie from Bad Robot and David Robert Mitchell is titled Flowervale Street, with an IMAX release date set for May 16, 2025.
Now that we have a title and a release date, what about a plot synopsis? Well, that part is still a secret. We have literally no idea what Flowervale Street is about at this time, but we’d like to at least recklessly speculate that it’s a Cloverfield Universe movie. It’s more than likely not, mind you – this is a Warner Bros. Pictures project versus a Paramount release, for starters – but there’s just something about that title that feels very… 10 Cloverfield Lane, isn’t there?...

David Robert Mitchell’s mysterious new feature film with Bad Robot now has a title and release date. “Flowervale Street,” starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, will be released by Warner Bros. on May 16, 2025, in Imax.
Mitchell will direct the script he wrote for the film, which he’ll also produce alongside J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Matt Jackson and Tommy Harper.
Plot details are still under wraps, but the film has been previously described as a thriller. As Variety previously reported, Christian Convery and Maisy Stella round out the lead cast.
14-year-old Convery has led Netflix’s dystopian sci-fi series “Sweet Tooth” for two seasons, and previously starred in Elizabeth Banks’ “Cocaine Bear.” He is currently in production on Academy Award winner Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” with Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac and Christoph Waltz.

For those who have been fans since his pre-It Follows breakout with The Myth of the American Sleepover, it was disappointing to see director David Robert Mitchell land in director’s jail after the debacle of Under the Silver Lake. The brilliantly layered neo-noir premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival in 2018 (where we were on the right side of history), then delayed by A24 a handful of times only to quietly launch in theaters nearly a year later, followed by a digital release a mere few days following that, wrapping up with a domestic gross of less than $50,000. After six long years of trying to get another film off the ground, the director has finally begun production on his next feature in Atlanta.

Plot details remain tightly guarded since the project was announced, but the movie is categorized as a thriller. Considering Bad Robot is behind the Cloverfield films, Overlord, Super 8, and more, it feels safe to presume the untitled project will be a genre thriller of some sort.
The latest casting details brings news that Christian Convery and Maisy Stella will play the children of Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway. In other words, it’s clear that it’ll be a family affair.

Veena Sud's 2010s TV series The Killing (based on Forbrydelsen by Søren Sveistrup) is still one of the most enthralling viewing experiences I've ever had, so I'm especially thrilled that Veena's 2020 Quibi series The Stranger (starring Maika Monroe as a rideshare driver who encounters a killer client plalyed by Dane DeHaan) has been re-cut as a feature film that will arrive on Hulu on April 15th:

Maisy Stella has joined Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor in It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s mystery IMAX thrill ride, Flowervale Street.
Here’s a story that caught our attention this morning, given that it’s added a rising star to a project featuring an ensemble of supremely talented actors who have a knack for attaching themselves to interesting projects.
We’ve heard stories for a while now that David Robert Mitchell, the director of It Follows and Under The Silver Lake is making another film, itself a notable bit of news given that he’s only made three films since 2010’s The Myth Of The American Sleepover, his ultra low-budget debut. Having such a short filmography that boasts two critically-lauded films on it means that Mitchell’s return to directing (for the first time since 2018’s Under The Silver Lake) was always going to generate excitement.
Then there’s that cast to consider.

What if “Friday the 13th” was told through Jason Voorhees’ point of view?
First-time feature writer/director Chris Nash’s slasher “In a Violent Nature” focuses on undead serial killer Johnny (Ry Barrett) who stalks new victims in the woods. The killing spree is spurred by the removal of a locket from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a spirit seeking revenge after a horrific 60-year old crime. Johnny’s body is resurrected and he becomes hellbent on retrieving the jewelry from a group of vacationing teens. The only way to do it? Methodically slaughtering them one by one. Classic Johnny.

Neon is bolstering its production and distribution capabilities with a new financial investment from the producers of its most recent film, “Cuckoo,” which just screened at the SXSW Film Festival.
Indie-studio Neon has formed a strategic financial partnership with Waypoint Entertainment, a production company led by producer Ken Kao that’s been behind films like “The Favourite” and “The Nice Guys.” Together, the two companies will work on a slate of genre films intended for theatrical release.
The deal is non-exclusive, and no details on the slate of films were announced today — but the films will be indies in the $10 million+ range. The investment should give Neon a bit more financial firepower to compete with the likes of A24. Neon will handle global distribution on each of Waypoint’s titles via its newly-launched international sales division.

Once upon a time, a bunch of disgustingly wealthy entertainment executives got together with a dream — a dream that answers the question, "What if people consumed film and TV in short segments like a TikTok playlist, but on a brand new platform that no one is going to pay to use with a bananas ridiculous name?" The result was Quibi, a short-form streaming platform that went as quickly as it came, shutting down after only seven months of operation and hemorrhaging over a billion dollars from investors.
The downfall of Quibi rivals that of fellow colossal "good idea on paper but never gonna happen in execution" entertainment failure, MoviePass, but came with the depressing caveat that Quibi actually produced a huge chunk of *content* that was now at risk of being drop-kicked into the unstreamable void of tax write-off and nothingness unless other platforms stepped in to save them. Nicolas Cage may have purchased dinosaur bones Irl, but that doesn’t mean the actor will be going extinct anytime soon.

In the year of our Lord Cthulhu 2024, it's abundantly clear what the general aims of the Blumhouse production company are: to make a variety of mid- to low-budget genre features that contain any sort of hook which will make a return on their investment. The 21st century's version of old exploitation companies like Empire International Pictures and New World Pictures, Blumhouse occasionally produces a breakout prestige genre film, but more often than not they're making, y'know, "Night Swim."
Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. Jason Blum and company know that horror fans love a balanced diet, happily taking their veggies along with their french fries. One of the most "french fry" movies Blumhouse ever made was 2018's "Truth or Dare," a film in which the most famous high school party game turns deadly once a supernatural element forces the players to either participate or forfeit their lives.

When it comes to storytelling, it’s often said that the journey matters more than the destination, and that’s why I think ergodic fiction is so satisfying to read. Exemplified by narrative puzzles like Ryan Hughes’ Xx and Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves, these intricately crafted tales are defined by an intentional difficulty in actually figuring out what’s going on in the story – effectively making the reading itself a part of the creative process.
Unfortunately, when it comes to movies, studio expectations mean that ergodic filmmaking isn’t exactly a hot commodity, with most productions preferring to bet on conventional screenplays with easily understandable stories rather than anything that might turn off potential moviegoers. This isn’t always the case, however, and a great example of a filmmaker attempting to use ergodic storytelling elements on the big screen is David Robert Mitchell’s underrated conspiracy thriller,...

It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s 80s-set “IMAX thrill-ride” for Bad Robot is shrouded in secrecy. So could Flowervale Street be another Cloverfield spin-off? We look at the possible clues.
We’ve been following the slightly under-the-radar progress of Flowervale Street for some time now. An upcoming film from It Follows and Under The Silver Lake director David Robert Mitchell, it has been shrouded in secrecy for several months, with even that title currently in question.
As more details about the project have emerged, though, we’ve began to wonder: could it be another film in the Cloverfield series? If so, this would place it in a series that has so far included the 2008 original and the spin-offs 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) and The Cloverfield Paradox (2018).
Let’s take a quick look at the clues we currently have to hand.

Ewan McGregor has joined Anne Hathaway in It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s mystery 80s-set dinosaur film, seemingly called Flowervale Street.
There’s an awful lot we don’t know about Flowervale Street, the upcoming film from It Follows and Under The Silver Lake director David Robert Mitchell. Even that title has a bit of a question mark hovering around it – on IMDb, the project’s simply billed as Untitled Anne Hathaway & Robert Mitchell Film, largely because it stars Anne Hathaway.
Several outlets, including World of Reel, have stated that its title is Flowervale Street, though, so that’s what we’ll go with for now.
According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor is the latest high-profile addition to the cast, and interestingly, the Hollywood outlet doesn’t mention the film’s title, either. Even its logline is still being kept secret, though Deadline echoes earlier reports that it’ll be a ‘thrill-ride’ shot on IMAX.

Osgood Perkins, known for his uniquely dark and unsettling approach to horror in films like The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Gretel & Hansel, is set to terrify audiences once again with his latest project, Longlegs. Leave it to Oz Perkins, the son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, to stir up another cinematic nightmare. The first teaser has been released for Perkins’ so-far-so-mysterious “Longlegs,” out from Neon on July 12, with the director here officially credited as “Osgood Perkins,” also the name of the filmmaker’s grandfather.
The horror movie, which centers on an occult killing spree and one detective’s personal connection to it, stars “It Follows” scream queen Maika Monroe as an FBI agent assigned to a cold case now reawakened. But she soon uncovers a close-to-home link to the crimes, perhaps being orchestrated by Nicolas Cage as the murderer. Blair Underwood and Alicia Witt also star.

Ever since the dawn of the internet, the art of the tease in marketing upcoming films has essentially gone extinct. We're all used to living in a 24/7 entertainment news cycle, where it's easy for the average layman (let alone Hollywood insider) to know which actor has signed a deal to appear in what movie before the thing ever gets made, let alone premiere on cinema screens. Nostalgic cinephiles like myself long for the days when teaser trailers were a regular phenomenon, made almost expressly to announce to general audiences that these movies are coming soon without giving much (or hardly anything) away.
Although the general trend for movie trailers these days is to essentially throw the baby out with the bathwater in terms of cast, plot, big highlight moments, and the like, teaser trailers do still occasionally get made, and it's always a special occasion when these trailers actually, well,...

Austin-based indie directors David and Nathan Zellner have spent more time thinking about Sasquatch than most filmmakers do musing about human beings. In 2011, they brought “Sasquatch Birth Journal 2” to the Sundance Film Festival, a four-minute faux nature documentary in which a hirsute creature can be seen giving birth to an equally furry infant. Thirteen years later, the siblings return with “Sasquatch Sunset,” a one-joke feature that leaves the amateur videographer gimmick behind, committing itself to tracking a year in the lives of a Sasquatch family of four — let’s call them Big Foot, Mama Foot, Tender Foot and Buster (the runt of the litter).
In case you were wondering, the joke is that the film exists at all … because who would finance, much less star in, an 88-minute portrait of these apocryphal brutes? The late-arriving punchline comes with the end credits, when the names Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg appear...

David Robert Mitchell, director of It Follows and Under The Silver Lake, is reportedly starting on his next film in March. Flowervale Street will star Anne Hathaway and also dinosaurs.
In October, it was announced that director David Robert Mitchell is going to direct They Follow – a sequel to his breakthrough 2014 horror, It Follows.
At the time, reports suggested that the sequel would begin filming in 2024 – but it now sounds as though Mitchell is going to get started on an entirely separate project first. Called Flowervale Street, it’s described as “a mystery thriller with dinosaurs set in the 80s” akin to A Quiet Place, and will star Anne Hathaway.
Word of the film got around in March 2023, when Hollywood trade outlets reported that Mitchell had partnered with JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros Pictures to make a “thrill ride” shot in IMAX. Mitchell has written the script himself,...

Last week, Neon unveiled a creepy viral teaser for one of their upcoming films, but didn’t immediately reveal what movie it was connected to. Turns out it was Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins. Now another creepy teaser for Longlegs has made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above. If you missed last week’s teaser, that’s also included in the video above.
The cast of Longlegs includes Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario), Maika Monroe (It Follows), Alicia Witt (Urban Legend), and Blair Underwood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D). The story Perkins crafted for the film is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.” Monroe takes on the role of FBI Agent Lee Harker, a gifted new recruit...

Quentin Tarantino has expressed interest in dabbling in the horror genre for a long time. But to him, one of his own movies comes pretty close to being a part of that category.
Quentin Tarantino | Loic Venance/Getty Images Quentin Tarantino revealed why this movie is the closest he’d come to directing a horror film
Tarantino has always been open about his fascination with horror movies. There were even a couple of scary movies that the director would’ve liked to experiment with if he could. He famously talked about taking the reins of Wes Craven’s Scream and making it in his own image. But he also fantasized about doing a movie as good as 1973’s classic The Exorcist. However, he felt tackling a horror film of that quality meant he’d have to tone down his own trademark movie. It was a compromise he wasn’t sure he could do.

Technology giveth and taketh away. We can watch most movies with the click of a button from our couch but no longer have the joy of going out to the video rental store. We can also buy and digitally “own” any movie at a moment’s notice, but more and more, physical copies of movies aren’t even being made.
The movie theater has stayed the course, however. Through Covid-19 shutdowns, insane movie budgets followed by box office disasters, the rise of quality TV shows like Game of Thrones, streaming, The Flash… theaters have survived, thank God. That being said, each year, more movies conveniently grace us with their presence at home and only at home.
It’s not always a bad thing for films to skip movie theaters entirely. But I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t have been nice to have the option to see...

Before Damien was born in Richard Donner’s infamous 1976 horror classic “The Omen,” a Vatican-adjacent conspiracy to bring the Devil to Earth made for a sinful demonic ploy.
“The Omen” prequel “The First Omen” is the latest installment in modern horror franchises and reboots, following the original film which chronicled an American ambassador (Gregory Peck) who adopts a son who turns out to be the antichrist. The film was remade in 2006 by then-20th Century Fox, and landed the short-lived 2016 sequel series, “Damien.” Now, 20th Century Studios’ “The First Omen” attempts to capture where all that satanic worship kicked off.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “When a young American woman (Nell Tiger Free) is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.
