- Teresa Lisbon: I have to say, I am impressed. You outplayed the F.B.I.
- Patrick Jane: No contest. Did they tell you when I start work?
- Teresa Lisbon: When *we* start.
- Patrick Jane: We? What about your job?
- Teresa Lisbon: Nah. It was boring.
- Patrick Jane: Yeah, I told you.
- Teresa Lisbon: Yeah. But you had no right to. It's my life, and I'll decide what to do with it.
- Patrick Jane: And you decided correctly.
- Teresa Lisbon: There was never any choice.
- Patrick Jane: Oh, come on. It'll be fun. Let's see what kind of trouble we can make.
- Teresa Lisbon: You ran away again Jane. Not from the FBI but from me.
- Patrick Jane: Yeah, but I ran back.
- Teresa Lisbon: How was I suppose to know? I thought you were gone again forever.
- Teresa Lisbon: [to Jane] You were difficult and exhausting and maybe I don't want to put the rest of my life on hold to be your sidekick.
- Patrick Jane: Don't worry. I won't escape.
- Kim Fischer: Oh, I'm not worried. If you walk away this time...
- Patrick Jane: I know. I'll end up spending the rest of my life in prison.
- Kim Fischer: No. I'll shoot you.
- Teresa Lisbon: Why are you being so stubborn? The F.B.I. is offering you a get out of jail free card.
- Patrick Jane: Well, you make that sound like a good thing.
- Teresa Lisbon: Isn't it?
- Patrick Jane: Not on their terms. If I can't live on my terms, I'm in prison anyway. Might as well just stay in this cozy little detention suite.
- Teresa Lisbon: How you holding up?
- Patrick Jane: Ah... You know what incarceration's like.
- Teresa Lisbon: Not really.
- Patrick Jane: Well, there's no need to pretend, Lisbon. We're both in the same predicament.
- Teresa Lisbon: How is that? I have a home and a respected career. You're locked up for murder.
- Patrick Jane: Eh, you're splitting hairs. We're both trapped.
- Kimball Cho: What are you doing?
- Jason Wylie: Waiting for you.
- Kimball Cho: To do what?
- Jason Wylie: Notice me.
- Kimball Cho: Who are you?
- Jason Wylie: Jason Wylie.Uh, junior I.T. analyst. I work in I.T. Analyzing stuff.
- Kimball Cho: What do you want, Jason?
- Jason Wylie: Uh, we were told to focus I.T. support on the Schneiderman case, but I'm my own man at lunch, right?
- [laughs nervously]
- Jason Wylie: So I stole some satellite time to hunt for Patrick Jane. Look what I found.
- [There is a spray-painted arrow with "Jane" written after it]
- Kimball Cho: This was taken from a satellite over Brooklyn?
- Jason Wylie: You think it's really Jane? It's not a trick?
- Kimball Cho: That's Jane.
- Jason Wylie: I can't believe they gave me a desk.
- [laughs]
- Jason Wylie: You can call me "The Coyote".
- Kimball Cho: I don't think so.
- Jason Wylie: That's just what they call me downstairs. Don't ask me why, though. They never told me.
- [laughs again]
- Kimball Cho: Your name's Wylie.
- Jason Wylie: Yeah.
- Kimball Cho: Wile e. Coyote. "Road Runner", the cartoon?
- Jason Wylie: [Not getting it] No, it's Irish, I think.
- Patrick Jane: Okay, you're right. I... I'm sorry, Lisbon. I didn't think about you.
- Teresa Lisbon: Well, you rarely do.
- Patrick Jane: Well, that's not true. I made you one of my demands. I... I'm not joining the FBI unless they make you a job offer.
- Teresa Lisbon: That's my point. What makes you think I want to work with you again? You are difficult and exhausting, and maybe I don't want to put the rest of my life on hold to be your sidekick. Have you ever even thought about that?
- Patrick Jane: No. No. I hadn't considered it.
- Teresa Lisbon: You think you know what's good for my life, but you haven't been a part of my life for two years. So let's get this case wrapped up so I can go home.
- Kim Fischer: We know how Jane works. And we know he's a risk, but we can't ignore the upside. He closed every case you were ever assigned.
- Teresa Lisbon: Yeah, he had help.
- Kim Fischer: Which is why I'm here.
- Teresa Lisbon: Well, what do you want from me?
- Kim Fischer: Help me, Lisbon. There are national security issues at play. Jane won't work with us unless we meet his demands.
- Teresa Lisbon: He has too much pride to back down. You got to give him a win. Meet one of his demands.
- Kim Fischer: One of his demands is you.
- Teresa Lisbon: Meet another one.
- Patrick Jane: [Lisbon visits him in detention] Visitor. Splendid. Not a willing one, based on the posture.
- [with a sarcastic smile, Lisbon straightens her posture]
- Patrick Jane: That's a little better.
- Teresa Lisbon: How am I trapped?
- Patrick Jane: You live in Washington.
- Teresa Lisbon: [indignantly] I love Washington!
- Patrick Jane: High voice.
- Teresa Lisbon: Do you still think Abel killed Cleo?
- Patrick Jane: Oh, I know he did. Guy's a hothead. Those swollen biceps and neck tattoos; the mere hint of an affair would set that guy off.
- Kim Fischer: Why was her psychic here the night Abel disappeared? If Defiance was out with her friends all, there was no was reason for him to be at the loft.
- Teresa Lisbon: Cleo Ascencio. It's such a theatrical name. You think it's real?
- Kimball Cho: It is. We ran his fingerprints.
- Teresa Lisbon: Let me guess. Clean record?
- Kimball Cho: Spotless.
- Patrick Jane: What are you suggesting, Lisbon?
- Teresa Lisbon: Ascencio, it... it sounds Cuban. There's a scam that they do in Cuba. Brokers charge large sums of money to surgically modify fingerprints. They swap the right fingertips and the left, it fools immigration every time.
- Kim Fischer: How do you know that?
- Teresa Lisbon: I'm a police chief. With a lot of reading time on my hands.
- Patrick Jane: Mrs. Schneiderman?
- Defiance Schneiderman: Defiance.
- Patrick Jane: Defiance. Are you a Romani gypsy?
- Defiance Schneiderman: What do you know about it?
- Patrick Jane: Carny circuit. My dad was a showman.
- Kim Fischer: [meeting a hostile neighbor of the victim's] Nice guy.
- Teresa Lisbon: His name is Nguyen Hei. He's a Vietnamese refugee. He used to run a noddle shop, now he owns the building. He was home the evening of the disappearance but he didn't hear or see anything.
- Kim Fischer: How do you know that?
- Teresa Lisbon: I read the case files.
- Patrick Jane: I thought you weren't interested in the case.
- Teresa Lisbon: It was a long plane ride.
- Teresa Lisbon: How's Jane?
- Kim Fischer: He is still in detention.
- Teresa Lisbon: I know. They won't deliver my letters. Three months now.
- Kim Fischer: He's being kept in isolation by design.
- Teresa Lisbon: By design. You mean until he does what you want.
- Kim Fischer: We want to help him out.
- Teresa Lisbon: You want to use him.
- Kim Fischer: Is that so bad?
- Teresa Lisbon: In case you haven't noticed, Jane is hardly federal agent material.
- Kim Fischer: Was he state agent material?
- Teresa Lisbon: No, not really. But he wanted to be there.
- Kim Fischer: And while he was there, he stopped the ten year reign of a mass murderer and exposed a society of corruption in law enforcement that spread halfway across the country.
- Teresa Lisbon: Yeah, that didn't exactly go down by the books, did it?
- Dennis Abbott: Jane, where did you get this from?
- Patrick Jane: Oh, a thumb drive Gale Bertram was hiding.
- Dennis Abbott: This is the first I'm hearing about it.
- Patrick Jane: It's the first I've talked of it.
- Dennis Abbott: These are all the numbers of the Blake Association.
- Patrick Jane: Correct. I figured Bertram was keeping it as insurance.
- Dennis Abbott: Well, we've arrested or retired all of these people.
- Patrick Jane: Yes, you have. Except the ones that I've blacked out. Those ones you haven't caught.
- Dennis Abbott: We got 'em all.
- Patrick Jane: Did you? Well, I guess Bertram was wrong, then.
- Dennis Abbott: Give me the names.
- Patrick Jane: A couple of judges, a Congressman, several FBI agents.
- Dennis Abbott: Names.
- Patrick Jane: Big names, some of them. If that list ever got out to the press, it'd cause all kinds of turmoil, wouldn't it?
- Dennis Abbott: Are you threatening me?
- Patrick Jane: Oh, no. Just pointing out that we both have the power to create misery.
- Dennis Abbott: Okay. You give me the names and we'll agree to all of your terms on the contract.
- Patrick Jane: If I give you the names, you'll break the contract. You've already done it once.
- Dennis Abbott: What do you propose?
- Patrick Jane: I propose that you surrender to my terms and when I'm finished with your contract, and only then, I will give you the names.
- Kim Fischer: How did you make it work for so long?
- Teresa Lisbon: I've thought about that myself. I mean... after he disappeared, how I made it work for so long.
- Kim Fischer: And what's the answer?
- Teresa Lisbon: I have no idea.
- Kim Fischer: Congratulations. You got one over on me. It's a nice stunt. You feel better now?
- Patrick Jane: Mm. No. You woke me up.
- Kim Fischer: Yeah, I don't get you. You hunted down and killed your enemy. Why are you making new ones?
- Patrick Jane: Eh, you're right. Running away was a mistake. I'm ready to discuss the job offer now.
- Kim Fischer: There is no offer. Not anymore.
- Patrick Jane: Nonsense. Let's talk.
- Kim Fischer: I am taking you back to Texas. And next week, you'll be indicted for the murder of Thomas McAllister, among other charges.
- Patrick Jane: Your cats find the body yet?
- Kim Fischer: What body?
- Patrick Jane: The body hidden on the roof of Abel Schneiderman's building.
- Kim Fischer: You saw it?
- Patrick Jane: No, but there's a large pile of soil just by the garden. And winter is almost upon us, so what is that soil doing there? That's a rhetorical question. The soil is there to make room for Cleo, Mrs. Schneiderman's psychic. He went missing the same time as her husband.
- Kim Fischer: What are you talking about?
- Patrick Jane: Abel found out his wife was sleeping with her psychic, so he killed him in the bedroom. Abel doesn't own a car, so he cut up the body into pieces and buried them in the garden. Your kidnap victim isn't kidnapped; he's a killer and he's on the run.
- Kim Fischer: You're good.
- Patrick Jane: Thank you.
- Kim Fischer: A good liar.
