- Patrick Jane: Have you decided?
- Teresa Lisbon: Decided what?
- Patrick Jane: Whether or not you're gonna go with him.
- Teresa Lisbon: No. Not yet.
- Patrick Jane: Well, I hope you stay.
- Teresa Lisbon: You do?
- Patrick Jane: Yeah, I think you'll be bored in D.C.
- Teresa Lisbon: That's why I should stay, to avoid boredom?
- Patrick Jane: What's worse than boredom?
- Lydia Faulk: Where are you going with this?
- Patrick Jane: I'm trying to tell my story, if you'll just let me.
- Lydia Faulk: You haven't even started it.
- Patrick Jane: [about the Jury] Well, they seem engaged. All of them except this gentlemen here, who's preoccupied by his new jacket. That's a little vain and childish, don't you think? This is serious business. Pay attention.
- Euro Man: [Embarrassed] I'm sorry. I was just trying to...
- Lydia Faulk: [Cuts him off, peeved] Sir, you will not indulge him.
- Patrick Jane: Well, he's happy to indulge himself. That should definitely be on the record.
- Lydia Faulk: Mr. Jane, this is not a forum for you to chat with the jurors.
- Patrick Jane: Well, it should be.
- Lydia Faulk: Mr. Jane...
- Patrick Jane: They just seem like good, honest, friendly people, all of them except that gentleman on the end there. You know, you really should mend things with your son. All this anger, this bitterness, this resentment that you're bottling, it's ruining both your lives.
- Lydia Faulk: [Very angry] Stop now. You do not dictate the agenda here.
- Patrick Jane: Who does?
- Lydia Faulk: I do. This is my courtroom, and it runs the way I say. Is that clear?
- Patrick Jane: [Cheerily] It is now. Thank you.
- Teresa Lisbon: Let's watch "Casablanca," huh? What is it about, anyway?
- Agent Marcus Pike: Well, various things, but basically it's a love story about a woman who has to choose between two men.
- [pause]
- Agent Marcus Pike: There's also a baseball game on.
- Teresa Lisbon: That sounds better.
- Agent Marcus Pike: Yeah, let's do that.
- Dennis Abbott: Did you hear the news? Your grand jury investigation ended. And they voted to indict you for murder.
- Patrick Jane: Well, is it any wonder?
- Dennis Abbott: Well, the A. G. is making it go away, but, you know, it's a good thing that you're under our protection.
- Patrick Jane: Hm. That's a fact that you'll never let me forget.
- Lydia Faulk: In a moment, I'll open the floor up to you so you can provide a narrative of events to explain what you were doing and where you were on the date and time of Thomas McAllister's murder.
- Patrick Jane: Objection. You said murder. Thomas McAllister may have shot and strangled himself.
- Teresa Lisbon: What are you doing here?
- Patrick Jane: Uh, I'm out on
- [Air Quotes]
- Patrick Jane: "bail".
- Kim Fischer: What does "bail" mean?
- Teresa Lisbon: It was a con.
- Patrick Jane: Uh, technically the term is "sting".
- Lydia Faulk: Do you recall the day of McAllister's death?
- Patrick Jane: I do - big day. I had been chasing the man for eight years. Any of you know what it's like to be driven by a moral imperative?
- [to various members of the jury]
- Patrick Jane: You do. And you. And you do. You all have strong jaw muscles. It's a sign of strength and character.
- [to an older juror]
- Patrick Jane: You - I'm not so sure. Your eyes are a tad close to each other.
- Kim Fischer: You really think you can get him to take out a hit on you in one night? Usually, only people who know you want to kill you.
- Teresa Lisbon: [after Jane is arrested] What's going on?
- Marshal Lawson: The Attorney General has found your coworker in contempt of court for ignoring a federal subpoena. Teresa Lisbon?
- Teresa Lisbon: Yeah, that's me.
- Marshal Lawson: You've been subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury in Dallas.
- Kim Fischer: [Coming up to them] What's happening here?
- Marshal Lawson: Are you Kim Fischer?
- Kim Fischer: Yes.
- Marshal Lawson: You've been subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury, as well.
- [to Jane]
- Marshal Lawson: Let's go.
- Patrick Jane: [to Fischer and Lisbon] Uh, probably best not to ignore those.
- Lydia Faulk: The FBI conducts a two-year manhunt, finds its suspect, and brings him back, but instead of a trial by his peers, he is given a government job... with benefits.
- Teresa Lisbon: I can't believe you got a prosecutor to take part in the con.
- Patrick Jane: It's not a con. It's a sting. Sting.
- Patrick Jane: You're right-handed.
- Daniela Welker: Uh, yes.
- Patrick Jane: So, that heart on your hand, you didn't draw that?
- Daniela Welker: Uh, no. They did.
- Kimball Cho: Yeah, we don't know what that means. None of the other girls we rescued had that mark.
- Daniela Welker: Guess I'm special.
- Jason Wylie: This is all the physical evidence from the Elijah Macy murder scene. I sorted it by order of relevance with this end of the table being most relevant.
- Patrick Jane: What do you consider relevant?
- Jason Wylie: Any object that can yield trace evidence of the shooter. If we I. D. the triggerman, we can cut a deal with him to finger Acardo.
- Patrick Jane: Yeah, uh, trace evidence, that's the fibers and the hairs and the gooey stuff, yeah?
- Jason Wylie: That's an oversimplification, but, yes. In the last year alone, there are 17 new methods for extracting DNA evidence from...
- Patrick Jane: Yeah, we know that there's a lot of ways to find out what we need, right, Wylie? Hmm?
- Jason Wylie: Yeah.
- Patrick Jane: So, uh, there's the federal way, with the trace evidence, and then there's a more interesting way. Let's go with the more interesting way.
- Patrick Jane: [Examining an overcoat from the evidence table] What was the weather like the day of the murder?
- Jason Wylie: Pretty warm, if I'm not mistaken.
- Patrick Jane: [Checks the coat lining] Holes. Hmm. Interesting. You see that, Wylie?
- Jason Wylie: Uh-huh.
- Patrick Jane: Okay, so, if this didn't belong to the victim, you have just solved the case.
- Jason Wylie: [Slightly confused] I did?
- Patrick Jane: Well done. Find out if it belonged to the victim or not.
- Jason Wylie: Okay?
- Teresa Lisbon: You always know what I'm gonna do, huh?
- Patrick Jane: Mostly.
- Teresa Lisbon: One of these days I might surprise you.
- Patrick Jane: Please don't. I love that you're predictable.
- Teresa Lisbon: [rolls her eyes] Just what a girl wants to hear.
- Patrick Jane: What does a girl want to hear?
- [asking earnestly]
- Teresa Lisbon: I wish I knew.
- [honestly]
- Patrick Jane: And then I was thinking about
- [doing an Italian accent]
- Patrick Jane: the Brunello Di Montalcino.
- Teresa Lisbon: That did sound good.
- Patrick Jane: [normal voice] 130 bucks a bottle.
- Teresa Lisbon: [smiling] Abbot's paying.
- Patrick Jane: [Grinning back] Bingo.
