Some really low moments destroy the show as a whole

As the title already gives away, here we got the 2013 edition of the American Music Awards, so this one is already over half a decade old. It runs for slightly over 2 hours and writer and director are as prolific as it gets when it comes to award shows and that is also why I hoped and maybe even thought this would be better. But it is not. The only good thing you can somewhat say is that there are more awards handed out here than on many, if not all, recent awards shows. But this is something I honestly take for granted if this is an awards show. Still, there are many music numbers by Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Rihanna etc. many many others. And most of them weren't any good at all. One I liked was near the end TLC playing Waterfalls once again, even without LeftEye one of the best moments of the night. The lowest moment? Touch to make a selection, but yeah you could go for Rihanna getting a lifetime achievement awards. Seriously? I would not want said award after that to be honest. And yeah, turning this into a family affair with her mother presenting the award felt really cringeworthy, especially as her mother was barely capable of saying more than three word every 30 seconds. This wasn't even guilty pleasure material, just plain bad. As for the winners, I cannot say I was too happy either to be honest. Taylor Swift may not have been as bad as she is today, but still she was way beyond her peak and she had a few really good songs early on in her career. Another issue I had with the presenters. Like what were Silverman, Cuban (even if he looks so young) and the Kkardashians doing there? This is a music awards ceremony seriously. And honestly I felt it gave the ceremony per se a bad name as if this is the best that American music has to offer, or had to offer back in 2013, then things are not looking good at all right now. Sucks to say, it's even worse now. Where are the glory days when this long-running awards show featured actually really talented people. The good thing here you could say at leastg Nicki Minaj wasn't featured this time, then it would have been even worse. And yeah TLC and Miley were ok towards the end. Oh yeah, another really really really bad moment that is as close as it gets to Rihanna's big award was the Lady Gaga performance and honestly everybody who thinks she is a good actress should watch this clip with her pretending to call the President playing a Marilyn Monroe lookalike. Also fairly shallow, almost offensive, the President was just played by another random African American musician. Of course, Obama was still President back then, maybe this helped them in getting away with this crap. Overall, an overlong and really uninteresting awards show. Also tough to really care and cheer for any of the nominees if the better choices are still incredibly mediocre. So yeah, huge thumbs-down here. Not recommended.
