Quotes

  • Kate Beckett : Hey, who the hell keeps texting?

    Milo Pavlik : It's a news alert. There's a three-alarm fire going in Brooklyn.

Richard Castle : Where in Brooklyn?

Milo Pavlik : Uh... some factory on Arcadia Lane.

[Beckett and Castle exchange alarmed glances, realizing Ryan and Esposito are at that factory following a lead]

    Richard Castle : Oh, no.

  • [first lines]

[Beckett and Castle stand in front of a blazing inferno]

Kate Beckett : [answers phone]  Jenny?

Jenny Ryan : Kate! Oh, thank God! Um, have- have you heard from Kevin?

Kate Beckett : No, I haven't. Have you?

Jenny Ryan : No. I've been calling him to test our system, and he's not answering and... I'm freaking out a little bit. Um... do you have any idea where he is?

[after a look from Castle, Kate turns around and looks at the burning flames]

Jenny Ryan : Kate? Kate, are you there?

Kate Beckett : [turning back]  Yeah. Yeah, I'm here.

Jenny Ryan : What's going on? Where's Kevin?

Kate Beckett : Jenny, I need you to stay calm, okay? Something's happened.

  • Kevin Ryan : Can you believe it? Me as a dad?

Kate Beckett : No, Ryan, you're gonna be great.

Richard Castle : You guys pick a name?

Kevin Ryan : No, we couldn't agree on one, so we're waiting to see if it's a boy or girl and then decide.

Richard Castle : May I suggest... "Cosmo"?

Kevin Ryan : No, you may not. And rather than pick a name for my kid, you should pick a date for your wedding.

Richard Castle : Pick a date for my wedding? I was planning on bringing her.

Kate Beckett : Really? When is that? I might have plans.

  • Kate Beckett : So, I talked to Blake McCann's co-workers, his ex-wife. And if he's got any enemies, I am not finding them.

Richard Castle : Leaving us with the Phantom.

Kate Beckett : Can you please not call him that? It just- it sounds silly.

Richard Castle : Sillier than the Arsonist, which starts with "arse"? At least with the Phantom, he's got some mystique.

Kate Beckett : He doesn't deserve mystique. He's a murderer.

  • Kevin Ryan : This is Lieutenant Delia Burton. She's a fire investigator with FDNY. Detective Beckett, Mr. Castle.

Kate Beckett : Nice to meet you. So this was arson?

Lt. Delia Burton : Well, it's looking that way. I found miniscule traces of accelerant at the flashpoint.

Richard Castle : So the killer set the fire to cover up the murder?

Lt. Delia Burton : Except there's no accelerant on the body, and the fire's flashpoint is deep in the building. You know, normally when you're disposing of a body, you're gonna make sure it burns.

Kate Beckett : So maybe our victim surprised the arsonist.

Richard Castle : And the arsonist killed him, silencing him as a witness?

Lt. Delia Burton : That's how it looks to me. Then again, homicide's not my specialty.

Kate Beckett : No. Uh, but fire is. Would you mind keeping me in the loop in case you find anything else?

Lt. Delia Burton : Sure. As soon as I know what happened, so will you.

    [the building creaks]

Richard Castle : Whoa. What was that?

Lt. Delia Burton : The building. You guys should probably go.

Richard Castle : [turning and hurrying away]  Sounds good. See ya!

Kate Beckett : [embarrassed]  I'm marrying him.

  • Kate Beckett : So I checked the security cameras near the fire. They were disabled.

    Richard Castle : Disabled how?

Kate Beckett : Someone used a can of spray paint, mounted it on a pole and blacked out the lenses of both cameras just minutes before the fire.

Richard Castle : Well, that must have been the arsonist. Maybe somebody saw them do it. Can we canvass the area? And by "we" I mean, obviously, somebody else.

  • Tory Ellis : Usually, there's a file embedded in the video with data on the camera. But it's been stripped out.

Richard Castle : Can you tell where it was first uploaded?

Tory Ellis : [typing]  Let me see... Looks like the video got bounced around the Net from site to site. But this is where it started.

[Ellis brings up a web paged called Pyrolicious.com]

    Kate Beckett : "Pyrolicious.com." Really?

Tory Ellis : Wow. Okay. A site that caters to fire fetishists.

Kate Beckett : I didn't even know there was a fire fetish.

Richard Castle : The actual term is "pyrophilia." Further proof that the Internet has something for everyone.

Kate Beckett : [whispers]  I'm not gonna ask how you knew that.

  • Kate Beckett : [confronting the arsonist]  Those guys in there, they are my friends. If they die, you die. What's it gonna be? It's your choice.

  • Mark Kimball : I'm Mark Kimball, Building and Safety. Do you guys really need to be in here?

Kate Beckett : It's where our crime scene is.

Mark Kimball : Ah. Well, don't stay any longer than you have to. Fire did structural damage. I need to clear the building.

Kevin Ryan : We should be in and out.

  • Lanie Parish : Still no ID and he's not in any missing persons report.

Kate Beckett : We get a match on the bullet?

Lanie Parish : It's not in the system. But the cause of death was definitely a GSW to the head. No smoke in the lungs, so he was already dead before the fire got going.

Richard Castle : Well, beats getting roasted alive.

  • Adam Ferguson : Any idiot... can slosh gas around and light a match. But this guy, he knew fire. Knew how it spread. See, buildings are just like people. There's a weak spot. A soft underbelly. He would find it, use it. Unleash an inferno with barely any accelerant. That... is an artist.

Kate Beckett : So how did any of this help McCann?

Adam Ferguson : I gave him some tips. I told him he was looking for someone who cases buildings carefully. Visits them a few times before he strikes.

    Kate Beckett : What else?

Adam Ferguson : An artist like the Phantom, he wants to admire his work. It's not enough that he sets the fire. He needs to feel the heat. To listen to the music. The roar of the flames, the moans of the buildings as they give in. That's what he lives for. Which is why, with every fire he sets, he is there watching.

  • Fire Chief Miller : Detective, are you sure they're inside?

Kate Beckett : Yeah, they were checking the building in connection with an arson-homicide. And they haven't called in yet. You need to alert your rescue teams.

Fire Chief Miller : Detective, the building's fully involved. I just had to pull out the interior attack teams. I can't send in a rescue company until it's more contained.

Kate Beckett : Wait, more contained? If my guys are in there, I need you to bring them out.

Fire Chief Miller : If we could get in there, I would. But there's been a partial collapse inside. I almost lost six of my guys. We'll do everything we can, Detective, but this building's a fire storm, every floor. If your guys are in there, I'm sorry, they're probably already gone.

Kate Beckett : Chief? The fire, what started it?

Fire Chief Miller : Shattered windows and structural damage indicate some kind of explosion.

  • Kate Beckett : The two folders in McCann's car. He knew that this building was next. How?

Richard Castle : Somehow, he must have figured out the arsonist's pattern.

Kate Beckett : Which means there is a pattern. And if he figured it out, so can we.

  • Captain Victoria Gates : What do you mean they're pulling back?

Kate Beckett : According to the IC, the building is structurally compromised and they can't get their men in. At this point, they don't feel that it's a rescue operation anymore. It's a recovery.

  • Kate Beckett : I can't believe this is happening. This is like some kind of a dream. I just keep waiting to wake up and it's like I can't do anything. It's like there's nothing we can do.
