Dick’s playing it again! Sources confirm to TVLine that Ryan Hansen has formally signed on to reprise his role as eternal frat boy Dick Casablancas in Hulu’s upcoming Veronica Mars limited-series revival. The actor will appear on a recurring basis.
As we reported last month, the the eight-episode continuation finds Kristen Bell’s titular sleuth tracking a serial killer terrorizing Neptune during Spring Break. Franchise overlord Rob Thomas previously revealed that the quasi-fourth season will differ in tone from the 2014 fan-funded feature film.

“Veronica Mars” could be making its long-awaited TV return.
Sources tell Variety that a revival of the series is currently in the works at Hulu with original series star Kristen Bell poised to return as the titular detective and original series creator Rob Thomas serving as writer. Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original series, would be the studio. Sources caution, however, that the deal for the series is not yet final. It is also unknown if any other original series stars besides Bell would return or what the plot of the series would be.
Among the matters complicating the deal is that Bell currently stars in the hit NBC comedy “The Good Place.” Should the “Veronica Mars” project move forward, it would need to shoot around her schedule for the latter show, meaning it would likely be a limited series consisting of eight to ten episodes.
Both Hulu and Warner Bros.

There is a possible "Veronica Mars" spinoff series coming online from The CW, and now series creator Rob Thomas has tweeted some details. If it's a go, the series will feature actor Ryan Hansen and the character of Dick Casablancas.
But it's not that simple. According to Thomas' tweets, the show will be a comedy about Hansen trying to get a Dick Casablancas-centered spinoff on the air. That's a fairly "meta" concept for a show, but it could definitely work in this case.
Thomas posted the limited information in two tweets on Wednesday (Jan. 20).

.@jeremymeyers @HiRyanHansen Ryan as version of Ryan trying to put together a Dick Casablancas series.

So that should be interesting, if a little unusual.

Veronica Mars is getting a web series. The broadcast television show about a high school private eye with an irreverent attitude that lasted three seasons (two on Upn and one on The CW) and 64 episodes before it was cancelled in 2007, only to make an imminent return 7 years later thanks to a $5.7+ million crowdfunding campaign is getting its very own online spinoff. CW’s online video outpost and incubator, CW Seed, will host the companion, which will be helmed by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas. The Hollywood Reporter notes the digital series will most likely consist of six to eight 10-minute installments. "Rob and I spoke last night," said CW president Mark Pedowitz at the Television Critics Association press tour. "He's very excited about doing this for CW Seed. It may not appear before the film comes out." There’s no word yet on whether or not the series will feature...

It’s a good time to be a Marshmallow. With the success of last year’s Kickstarter campaign, Veronica Mars is back on our screens this year in motion picture form, with creator Rob Thomas set to premiere the movie at SXSW. To capitalise on the excitement, Us network The CW is planning a series of webisodes to hit the ‘net later this year. The original series ran between 2004 and 2007 and featured the misadventures of the titular teen detective (played by Kristen Bell) as she investigated crime in the affluent coastal town of Neptune, California. Set 10 years after the end of the show, the film finds Veronica preparing to become a lawyer, but drawn back to her hometown when former flame Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) is accused of murder. It’s early days for development, and the first deals have only just been signed, but CW Entertainment President Mark Pedowitz...
