Neither good nor bad

Warning: Spoilers
-- Contains unspecified / semi spoilers, whereas I describe environments within the movie. --

End of Days, Inc. is a smart movie with several brilliant real world dilemmas shown in a dark satirical manner. How peoples of different personalities interact, how the characters in the movie change for the better.

If you can forgive the fact that the movie in its entirety is filmed in very easy to produce sets, meaning you get the feeling its obviously not a big budget movie, frankly it doesn't feel like a medium budget movie. However when saying that, the hallways and corridors, storage areas and offices all give the desired dark, gloomy theme. Or of a dull out of time place you will just waste away in. Your stereotypical 9- 17 workplace.

The acting is sometimes brilliant others very different, while not awful its certainly not memorable. The few special effects in the movie was sub par, nothing that gave me any special feelings. I must admit the final scene was done quite well, it gave a dark tone and much room for after-thought.

So finally, a short summary of what I liked and disliked:

Liked: A good, yet dark satirical portrayal of our daily lives at work. Sometimes brilliant acting, specially from the characters Mr. Godfrey and Ms. Esther.

Disliked: weird quirks and obvious low budget tone. There are several things that could have been explained a bit more, its truly a Sci-Fi for the hardcore viewers, its not as easily watched as other Sci-Fi movies in my opinion.

I rate the movie 5/10 it was neither bad nor good, it was a good debut film by the director. I recommend to prepare your mind to watch the movie more as if it was a drama- comedy with elements of Sci-Fi not as a pure Sci-Fi movie, as it certainly has a "different tone" than most other films, specially if compared to big Hollywood productions.

Good idea. Quirky execution.

Warning: Spoilers
Hard to review without, so - Spoilers -

Paulino Nunes did a great job as Mr. Godfrey, he was creepy and weird, Anna Ferguson as Esther was exceptionally weird, especially when she somehow became a martial arts expert mid way through, that was rather disjointed, but in keeping with the allusion that the "Twins" are some kind of demonic duo.

The overall concept of the movie was rather good hard Sci-Fi. One index card for each person on earth and by changing the status on the index card, you change the actual status of its associated human. They stayed committed to this, till the end.

Side note. 7.5 Billion humans, works out to roughly 9100 Pallets loads of about 1.8 metric Tonnes of index cards each. If stacked 3 pallets high, you'd need a warehouse of at least 4,000 Square Metres, I think their warehouse is a little undersized.

The other acting/scripting was rather lacklustre, in my opinion.

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Mort, was a very likable character, until he became a zombie, then there was little acting required of him. He became the comic relief, to some extent, and it was mostly toilet humour, not really in fitting with the tone of the rest of the movie.

The other employees of Godfrey Global were each stereotypes to one degree or another, the compulsive suck up, the nerdy office girl with a troubled home life, the seemingly worldly wise secretary with a bit of a reputation for entertaining in the broom closet. Each of their characters changed somewhat mid way through, after they realised the truly Global scale of their bosses machinations. The character changes were mostly for the better, they all became much more likable for it, and gave the viewer a bit more to invest in them.

The ending was in keeping with the bleak tone of the film, with just a glimmer of hope in the blank index cards acquired by Janet. The lack of explanation of anything really, was rather annoying, a little exposition might have been a bit of a gift to the viewer, but we were sadly deprived.

Overall, good concept, some good acting, mediocre special effects, disjointed character development. 4/10

intriguing premise
SnoopyStyle26 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A group of workers mindlessly process computer punch cards at Godfrey Global Inventory. The company owners announce the closing of the company. They are throwing a company party where they will hand out everybody's final paychecks. It's an odd party where the workers are asked to work one more night for a big pay day.

It's an intriguing premise but it raises questions that the movie never truly answers. These people seem to exist in purgatory or at least, they should not be living in the real world. The fact that they are in the real world presents a few problems. It makes the world unreal and the people exceedingly clueless. The workers need to do some better thinking since it becomes obvious what the premise is quite early in the movie. Also it seems unlikely that they haven't dropped the punch cards before. What if they spilled coffee on the cards? The premise is great but the script needs a few more passes. The workers should be in purgatory and they realize it only after Mort's death.

A waste of time

Brilliant idea for a film - but unfortunately the worst possible execution. Badly acted the cast can't catch your attention or raise any compassion for their fate. While the story starts somewhat mysterious and you are guided into an expectation that some humour may follow, the plot turns totally stale and - which I consider worse - completely foreseeable after about 15'. The ending makes no sense at all and leaves you in the chair with that feeling "What the heck? That's it?" A great frustration and the feeling of having been duped, of having lost valuable life-time that could have been much better used to watch a real movie. An extreme disappointment!

Strange and somewhat funny
brunovanael10 January 2021
This was strange to say the least. Intriguing perhaps. Could have been great, but in the wrong hands. The boss was an irritating character that really bugged me and not in a good way. The film had some good funny scenes, but unintentionally the funniest was the worst ever embodiment of a dead person. The idea here is to do nothing! Besides the boss and a very alive dead person, the acting was good.

Why, just why
ventalcomoeres25 May 2022
This is one of these movies that provoke existential questions like: who's gonna give me back those 82 minutes of life? Or, who can spend u$s 1.6mm dollars in such unnecessary movie?

The actors are not that terrible but there is a total lack of argument in the film, and it tries to build suspense around something that is never going to happen.

The main argument says that the workers are bribed into working one last night, but the right word is blackmailed.

Please go see the grass grow, and you wont't waste your time this much.

Very different dark comedy
smetaxas4 June 2017
A dark funny look at a big corporation that is run by evil twins. Not something you want to watch to lift your spirits, but it is a movies that will make you laugh. It takes a dark view of what people will do to make a buck and how they don't care what it costs the world around them until something brings it home personally to them. Though it makes you laugh, it also sends a message to us to think a little more about what we do that impacts the world around us and think about if the almighty $ is really worth the other costs. I won't say I loved this movie, but I did find it entertaining and I think the actors did a great job.

Grows on you
lusciousmuffins17 April 2021
I struggled a bit with this movie at first, but it kind of grows on you.

This film is highly stylized, so if art films are something you enjoy, you will probably fall in love with it faster than I did.

Although this is not the type of film I typically enjoy, I found myself drawn in as it progressed from awkward character driven drama into a surrealist comedy.

For me, this was very reminiscent of French films, Amelie and Delicatessen, with a few nods to The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover thrown in for good measure.

Credit to the set designers, cinematographers, and editors for giving this movie such a consistent and immersive feel on what I suspect was a fairly limited budget. The actors and writers also deserve praise for pulling together what could have been an unwatchable mess if not sold properly and instead creating an intriguing film.

While the nihilistic humor, absurdist storyline, and darker feel of this movie might not be to everyone's tastes, everyone should still be able to appreciate what its makers accomplished. They took what was a difficult vision to execute and, without the benefit of a massive budget, created something special and entertaining.

satire about how the big corporates are destroying the world
avik-on-sky28 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
this movie has -

1. a powerful message about how big companies are destroying the world but their workers & co-actors are turning a blind eye for either fear or mutual interests.

2. funny moments are executed beautifully that bring laugh to me but at the same time, I was filling guilty for the hidden truth which is very serious.

3. every characters are portrayed based on the real peoples fault(slutty, homo, buttering the boss, too naive) which divide them in office societies but they proved that those small faults means no harm to others in real time but if united they may have a strong force.

4. the boss will use the worker's till the earth is destroyed under their greedy and "super strong" hand but give them a check at last which has no value as the world is now destroyed.

5. the whole movie has a unusual & different colour quality that put a out of the world fill in the office.

the movie is very underrated but the theme & story is very unique. i strongly suggest you to watch the movie by "any means possible". :)

A real gem!
asage191 January 2020
I want to throw around terms like farce and absurdist, but I'm no expert. I do remember enough from college lit to think that this film is kinda both of those. It's a real gem, in any case, if you can tear yourself away from the expectations that Hollywood blockbusters have produced in us as viewers and that particular kind of suspense of disbelief. It has a plot, and it has some moral aspirations, but that's not the point. It is almost the antithesis of 'great drama'. It's deliriously anarchist in perspective, anarchic in execution, and wonderfully well executed at that. The cast is fantastic - I especially loved Paulino Nunes and Anna Ferguson. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee's performance (Kim's Convenience) was a revelation. Mark O'Brien is *always* fun to watch, and was maybe the lynchpin here. I'm not familiar with the other actors in the film, but was really happy with their performances in each of their roles :) This is a glorious dark comedy! We giggled all the way through this film - it was a delight! I'll watch it again, once I can find it :)

Warning: Spoilers
There are some spoilers. When I first saw this movie, I caught my eyes on the unique material called OMR card. One omr card has one life. The owner of these cards tries to throw all the cards away and destroy all mankind. I enjoyed watching this movie interesting with regard to the link between the OMR card and the human life. So I enjoyed watching this movie interesting with regard to the link between the unique card and the human life.

Godfry....God free
notanaxkiller-107-28791124 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was brilliant, in every way. From the title to the storyline, to the cross section of workers, and of course, the ending. I loved how the employees had worked there for years, and had no idea what the company did. What service, if any, it performed. As the night passed, they slowly become aware of the job that they have been performing for much of their lives, and try to fight the inevitable. I see that one reviewer suggested that this represents the way that corporations are strangling individuals, our lives, and our country. That's not a bad comparison. Made in 2015, that Idea has even greater credence now, as we see how Evil...,in the form of companies, corporations, and big money are able to ignore our laws, and dictate what our behavior must be, if we want to continue eating, have healthcare, be employed, and to have a modicum of enjoyment in our lives. Freedom, as it was originally intended to be in the constitution, or even as our grandparents enjoyed it no longer exists. This is certainly a "dark comedy." Light on the comedy. What good can you say about the almost complete extermination of everyone on Earth? The saving grace, at the end was those that escaped, and the punch cards that one of the workers had hidden inside her clothes...representing other people that were spared. As I've said, I thought this was a brilliant movie. That doesn't mean that I liked it. The supernatural angle may be the most logical one in the film.
