The entire film was shot over an early morning 10-hour period at the Rochester Mansion, a Los Angeles residence formerly owned by Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson.
Producer Meagan Judkins had seen heavyset male Michael Q. Schmidt in Michael Haussman's "A Study in Gravity" and determined that he would be the perfect actor for the role of male protagonist. She was both pleased and surprised to discover that Michael was the actor who submitted for her own project.
The "They Told Me" project began shooting at the same location and only minutes after Ben Fee's "As It Seems" project had completed filming.
Producer Meagan Judkins is a friend of director Eric Wareheim and loved the serendipity that Michael Q. Schmidt had himself previously worked for him on several Wareheim projects.
The film was nominated for "Best Concept/Narrative" at the 2014 Berlin Music Video Awards.
