Big news today: We’re excited to announce Amazon Studios’ third pilot season, beginning August 28th and featuring three half hour comedies The Cosmopolitans, Really and Red Oaks, and two hour-long dramatic thrillers Hand of God and Hysteria. For one month, it will be up to you to watch, rate and comment – ultimately helping us decide which of them get the greenlight.
“There is something for everyone in this season,” says Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. The glamorous life of modern day expats in Paris. The hijinks of a summer job at a country club in 1980s New Jersey. The visions of a vigilante judge who appears to be channeling God. The complexities of marriage and friendship among a circle of friends in suburban Chicago. And the mysteries behind a psycho-physiological illness spreading through a small town in Texas.
You can help choose which of these stories should get “picked up” to become shows.

Amazon Studios is steadily announcing its new production lineup, with several new series and pilots greenlit over the past few weeks. Of interest to our readers, the studio has greenlit Hand of God, a one-hour drama pilot from Executive Producers Marc Forster, Ben Watkins, Ron Perlman, Brian Wilkins and Jeff King. The show centers on "the powerful Judge Pernell Harris (Ron Perlman), a hard-living, law-bending married man with a high-end call girl on the side, who suffers a mental breakdown and goes on a vigilante quest to find the rapist who tore his family apart. With no real evidence to go on, Pernell begins to rely on 'visions' and 'messages'...

Exclusive: Gersh has signed Ron Perlman and his production company. After Hellboy and Sons Of Anarchy, Perlman is building the next chapter of his career. He’s not letting any moss grow under him since completing his superb turn as Sons biker club leader Clay Morrow. Perlman has optioned several screenplays, he is currently starring in and exec producing Hand Of God, a pilot for Amazon that Marc Forster is directing, and he has made a deal to co-write with Michael Largo the memoir Easy Street—The Hard Way that will be published by Perseus Books Group imprint Da Capo Press. I had the honor of being asked by Kurt Sutter to moderate the Sons panel that closed San Diego Comic-Con, and found Perlman to be so subdued and fatalistic about his character’s future on the show, almost seeming ashamed of what his character had done. Amazon Studios hasn’t backed out from its commitment to creating original series’ for their Instant Video streaming service. Amazon Studios has two exciting new pilots in the works that will appeal to both cinephiles and TV fans alike. Just like the last go-round, which yielded four series orders, viewers will provide feedback and decide the fate of the series when the pilots hit Amazon Instant Video later this year. First comes "The Cosmopolitans," from writer/director Whit Stillman, starring Chloe Sevigny, Adam Brody and Dree Hemingway. Stillman and Sevigny are a match made in heaven. He directed her in 1998's "The Last Days of Disco," and he directed Adam Brody in 2011's endlessly quotable "Damsels in Distress." "The Cosmopolitans" will center on a group of American expatriates looking for love in Paris. Sounds like quintessential Stillman who, like many independent directors including Jill Soloway who has Amazon series "Transparent" on the docket, is making the shift to television. As if that phenomenon needed more expounding. Next up is "Hand of God" from producer/writer Ben Watkins,...

Amazon has ordered two new pilots as part of their third season of original programming. The online giant has not yet debuted its second season of television series, in fact, it was only at the beginning of last week that Amazon announced what series they had picked up for season two, but clearly they have no plans of slowing down. First up with the two new pilots is "The Cosmopolitans," a half-hour dramatic comedy written, directed, and produced by Whit Stillman. Amazon writes that the series "follows a group of young American expatriates in Paris searching for love and friendship in a foreign city." The series stars Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny, Carrie MacLemore, Dree Hemingway, Freddy Asblom, Shaun Evans, and Adriano Giannini. The second series, "Hand of God," is from Marc Forster, who directed last year's "World War Z" with Brad Pitt. Ron Perlman leads the cast as Judge Pernell Harris.

Amazon Studios traditionally doesn’t announce its pilots until they’re fully cast and starting production. That is why it this morning confirmed the first two pilots from its third pilot season — half-hour dramatic comedy The Cosmopolitans, from Whit Stillman, and one-hour drama Hand Of God, from executive producers Marc Forster, Ben Watkins, Ron Perlman, Brian Wilkins and Jeff King. Both were greenlighted in January. The Cosmopolitans, about young American expatriates in Paris searching for love and friendship, stars Adam Brody and Chloë Sevigny. Hand Of God stars Ron Perlman as a hard-living powerful judge-turned vigilante and co-stars Dana Delany and Garret Dillahunt. Yet to be confirmed are three other Amazon pilots ordered this year, single-camera comedy Red Oaks, executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and executive produced and directed by David Gordon Green, Shaun Cassidy’s drama Hysteria and Samuel Baum’s dramedy Cocked. Here are detailed descriptions and credits...

Wisely, director Marc Forster kept his head down during the tumultuous post-production of "World War Z," and thankfully film was thankfully a big hit so he came out of it mostly intact. And now he's ready to work. He's already lined up a gig at Amazon Studios helming their pilot "Hand Of God," but lest you think he's been resigned to TV jobs, guess again. Forster will get behind the camera for the action thriller "Red Rising," based on the novel by Pierce Brown. It's big in scope (again, lest you think Forster won't be given the keys to a big movie again...) Drawing comparisons to "The Hunger Games" and "Game Of Thrones," this is a dystopian future-set story, in another world operating by a unique set of rules, with one man bucking against the system. Here's the Amazon book synopsis: Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest...
