This story first appeared in the Oct. 24 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Cable TV's subscripted landscape is getting a little less crowded. As more networks re-evaluate aggressive expansion plans and refocus efforts on where they found initial success, AMC has pretty much shuttered its reality operations — sparing only its companion talk show to The Walking Dead and Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men. AMC is getting out of the reality show business and is cancelling several shows. Other than The Walking Dead aftershow Talking Dead and Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men, the cable channel has decided to focus solely on scripted series.
Production on Game of Arms, which was recently renewed for a second season, will shut down immediately. Small Town Security and Freakshow have also been cancelled.
Producers on the dropped shows will have the option of finding another home for their series, with AMC’s full cooperation. This includes two other projects with Smith and Chris Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling.
"Scripted originals are at the core of the AMC brand. Iconic shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead have driven AMC’s evolution into a must-have television network," an AMC spokesman said in a statement. "We are proud of our...

It has been a big day for various TV drama series either scoring renewals or full season pick-ups.
First up, CBS has renewed its two major Summer event series "Under the Dome" and "Extant". The recent second season of 'Dome' pulled in an average of 9.4 million total viewers and a 2.2 rating per episode, down considerably from the first season (13.1 million viewers/3.3 rating) but still a big performer during the season.
Meanwhile the Halle Berry-led "Extant" has averaged 8.6 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating for its initial season. While both shows are returning, the network's Southern legal soap "Reckless" isn't so lucky and has been axed after pulling in an average of just 4 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating.
Next up, ABC has given full-season commitments to two of its new Fall shows - the mystery thriller "How to Get Away With Murder" and the comedy "Black-ish". 'Murder' will score...

AMC is going back to the arm wrestling table. The cable network home to Mad Men and The Walking Dead has renewed the unscripted series Game of Arms for a second season. The series, which premiered in February with AMC's highest weeknight original bow, will return with 10 additional episodes. The competition series follows members of regional arm wrestling clubs and their commitment to victory, which often comes at the expense of their jobs, health and relationships. When factoring in seven days of delayed viewing, season one averaged 747,000 viewers, including 450,000 among the key adults 18-to-49 demographic.
