I Am The Batman......
patjjhayes8 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This game is an easy 10 out of 10, id give it 11 if that was possible, it is the best overall Batman experience you could ever have. The game play makes you feel as if it is actually you gliding over the rooftops of Gotham and tearing through the streets in the Batmobile. Not only can you do everything Batman can do but it also makes you connect to him on an emotional level, you actually see and experience things through his eyes, you feel his pain, you understand the hard decisions he makes to save his city and the people he cares about. This game is so full of things to do that you never get bored, every mission feels like a main mission even though it a side mission, from taking down Penguin with Nightwing, to completing Riddlers trials with Catwoman, even a nostalgic moment of the return of the dynamic duo when your stopping Harley Quinn. The Batmobile is just amazing, you can go from one side to Gotham in no time in it, the battle mode is unreal, it turns into a tank and you fight massive amounts of enemy drone tanks through the streets. I never knew you could be stealthy in a tank but this game proved me wrong, you actually have to sneak around the streets trying to shoot down enemy tanks that can only be taken down from behind. Don't continue to read if you don't want a minor spoiler.

They brought the Joker back in the most hilarious way they could. Hes not technically alive but from inhaling Scarecrows toxin, he basically appears at random times in visions just for some comic relief, its the perfect encore for him. There are some sad moments in this game, some of our dearest friends give everything they can to save the city from Scarecrows toxin and The Arkham Knights militia forces. Two big bad Enemy's working together to take down Batman and destroy Gotham. There are some unlikely allies who show they're true colors. I could go on about this game forever but i don't have the time because Gotham needs me..... I Am The Batman.....

May Not Have The Story Of Arkham City, But Still Very Memorable Stuff Here!
Arkham Knight is a game that stays 100% true to what makes Batman such a timeless character. The final game in the Arkham Trilogy is a great send-off to one of the generation's best gaming trilogies, and easily the best superhero video games series in history.

Batman has become such a staple in our pop-cultural diets that it's easy to make the character seem worn out from all the iterations we've seen of him through the years, but the Arkham series is one of the examples of revising the character and still keeping him fresh to modern audiences.

The plot takes place after Arkham City, and Batman is now the target of a plot by all of Gotham's greatest thugs: to finally kill The Dark Knight. Will they succeed? And will Scarecrow break Batman before the night is over? Rocksteady Studios concludes the Arkham Trilogy in a more open-ended and technically gorgeous entry for Batman video games than we've seen before; and the games themselves are comparable to Batman: The Animated Series and The Dark Knight Trilogy. The Batman: Arkham franchise is an achievement itself, and will surely be recognized as a classic example as to why the character works in so many different mediums.

Incredible!

Warning: Spoilers
Batman: Arkham Knight is the definition of Best Game Ever! First things first: Gotham. Gotham is beautiful, it's wet/dark look gives the Dark Knight a huge vast open world to explore, with tons of side missions, and trophy's to discover! Riddler's race tracks are very well done, and give you a reason to explore. Gotham is Gotham. If you read the comics, this is the city you're getting. It's rich and amazing. Once you get a bit through the game (SPOILER) The Joker becomes Batman's hallucination. When exploring Gotham, you'll often find him on buildings talking to you about "How much he missed Gotham." It's awesome. The Dark Knight himself is Buff and powerful, the fighting has only improved much more then the previous games, and the graphics are superb! ScareCrow is creepy and eerie. But the villain who shines the most throughout the game is Arkham Knight. The voice actor is AMAZING. Although the twist was nothing special, I love how he studies your moves, which forces you to change up your style in each battle. Overall, Batman Arkham Knight is the Batman game we've wanted. Explore Gotham, take down villains, and watch Arkham Asylum and Arkham City gloom in the background. It's perfect. I recommend you get this, NOW!

He is vengeance, he is the night, he is...
Pjtaylor-96-13804427 June 2020
'Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)' is, as of now, the final main instalment in its series. Although it isn't quite as good as 'Batman: Arkham City (2011)', it ends the story on a solid note and is a fantastic game from the second it begins. Its narrative picks up after the gloomy end of its predecessor, taking things in a somewhat new direction when Scarecrow - one of the highlights of the first game in the series - rolls into Gotham with a plan to bring it to its knees. There are some really interesting characterisations here and the title does quite a bit of exploration when it comes to Batman's innermost fears and anxieties. Of course, it also has a couple of less successful moments. However, the overall thing is compelling and entertaining right the way through. The gameplay is probably the most refined it has ever been, tightening up series-staple mechanics while introducing several new gadgets and abilities. The combat is as deep and fluid as you'd expect, while the predator encounters are as challenging and suspenseful as ever. It's all really exciting and often contextualised within its wider world. That's because this time the entire city is explorable, from its highest rooftops to its shabbiest alleys. Soaring over the rain-soaked city as searchlights blaze their circles into the sky is simply stunning. Beneath its grimy aesthetic, the game really is gorgeous; the jump in generation between this title and the last is evident. The thing's most major new mechanic is the Batmobile, which has proven controversial among fans. Personally, I think it's a great addition. The car mode provokes an intense feeling of speed and the tank mode satisfyingly allows you to deal out some heavy damage. Perhaps it is leaned on a little too heavily in some scripted segments and in some of the Riddler's puzzles, but it's an enjoyable element of the experience that never truly feels cumbersome. Besides, it can launch you into the air, which is indescribably fulfilling. The city itself is peppered with stuff to do, all of which progresses side-plots than can result in you apprehending several well-known villains. This is great because it means that there is no busywork. It really is a treat to see your progress in real time, as Gotham PD fills up with the likes of Two-Face and the Penguin. Of course, there's also the elusive Riddler to contend with. He's put his trophies all over the place yet again and given you another set of lore-based riddles to solve. They're all tied to a series of 'Saw (2004)'-like traps and, this time, the completion of thse bring you one step closer to freeing Catwoman (who has been captured by the rogue and assists you in her own escape). This a great way of making the Riddler stuff seem even more urgent than it has before, as it directly impacts a playable character who is an important part of the series. The game, as a whole, has a strong sense of urgency to it. It supposedly plays out in real time and it pushes the Dark Knight to his limits. It's filled with effective storytelling, engaging characters and exciting gameplay. It's an extremely enjoyable experience. 10/10

An interesting conclusion to a stunning series
phi00272 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After completing this game I didn't really know what to think. The story was great, the voice acting was top notch, the graphics were mouth watering but I felt a little empty after I put down my controller. BAA had a real comic book feeling about it and was a great start to the franchise. After playing BAC video gaming was never the same and I remember saying to myself, this is what it is to be the batman. After playing BAK I feel like they ditched the comic book feeling, but I am glad Rocksteady really dug deep into what it would be like to be the batman. Compared to the other arkham games this one falls short on boss fights but takes a step up on story lines and emotional appeal. There are two big twists in this game, number one is who was under the arkham Knights high tech mask, and the other was an underlying mental struggle that sticks with you for around the entire game. The first spoiler wasn't handled very well, and when Jason Todd lifted his mask i felt like I knew it from the very beginning. The second however, ( Jokers blood is in batman and is almost taking over the dark knight ) is handled with class and style. Overall even though I felt a little empty after finishing I still find this conclusion stunning and complexing. Even though I think it isn't the best of the arkham series it still deserves a 10.

Rocksteady made me the Batman
residentgrigo15 July 2015
Asylum is still the most cohesive and comic accurate one and Origins has the best writing (i like City the least and the spin-off Blackgate is a dud) but this is the roundest package yet. The gameplay is the usual polished to hell and back deal with a surprising amount of diversity and the new Batmobile is a bit overused but it works unbelievably well for most of the game. The very engaging narrative uses a few fake outs too many, the continuity is now a mess and the Knight's identity (i predicted it in the thread about 2014's bugs) is exceptionally obvious and even a bit unresolved. That said i skipped a lot of sleep to finish all the story content that isn't a collect-a-thon. The audiovisual presentation is industry leading, John Noble's Scarecrow is the best version of the character to this day and another returning villain is in top form too. I even got to play as Azrael and see a comic accurate Professor Pyg (the M rating doesn't lie) so well done Rocksteady. A- and a Game of the Year contender.

My Favorite Game in the Series
jessfaith-4597118 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Out of all the Arkham games, this has to be my fave. I love the visuals, characters and new challenges. Making Scarecrow the main villain was the right choice as he provided a strong and serious threat. The Arkham Knight himself was pretty interesting. I also loved the inclusion of villains such as Prof. Pyg and Man-Bat. It was also so cool to see Oracle and interact with her because you only heard her voice in asylum and city and saw a pre-batgirl version in origins.

There are some problems that I have with this game:
  • the story sometimes is focuses a little too much on Joker for my liking
  • the Arkham Knight was more interesting when we didn't know his identity
  • Hush's side mission was WAY too short
  • TOO. MUCH. BATMOBILE.
  • cobra tanks
  • Deathstroke was completely wasted
  • Riddler and his speeches
  • lack of boss battles/ wasted opportunities for EPIC boss battles

Things I enjoyed:
  • Scarecrow as the main villain
  • Batman's duality with Joker
  • Joker singing
  • beautiful graphics and designs
  • inclusion of new villains and old ones like Firefly
  • Azrael's side mission and Prof. Pyg's side mission
  • fighting alongside catwoman (at least Riddler HAD a decent side mission)
  • Scarecrow actually defeating Batman in a way
  • Oracle's supposed death
  • Ivy working with Batman
  • villain dialogues when they chat with each other in max security
  • voice acting is brilliant
  • "Welcome to Gotham, the City of Fear!"

Overall, this game is a masterpiece. While not perfect, many of the flaws I mentioned can either be ignored or are my personal thoughts. The positives outweigh the negatives for me. Scarecrow is definitely one of the best parts of game. In my opinion, the fear of Scarecrow is that he is such an evil and destructive villain in this game. I think he's worse than Joker and Prof. Pyg and provides a big challenge for Batman. The ending to this game is also brilliant and mysterious. I won't spoil it though. Batman: Arkham Knight is definitely worth checking out in my opinion.

An incredible narrative, with jaw dropping presentation
prezrutherford8 July 2019
Arkham Knight is the most thematically consistent and emotional narrative in the entire Arkham franchise, hands down.

Throughout the entirety of the story, everything Batman cares about is threatened as central Gotham is under lockdown, taken over by an incredible roster of villains. Batman's psyche is represented through the manifestation of his subconscious - Through this, his deepest thoughts and darkest fears surface.

Batman's greatest battle is the one for his mind - Facing a foe lurking within, embodied by an old enemy in which he fights for his sanity.

Despite it's subvertive marketing, Arkham Knight is a wonderfully written psychological thriller with polished gameplay and excellently directed cinematics.

A Satisfying Conclusion
kevinpaul19999 July 2015
Batman : Arkham Knight Review

The Arkham series by rocksteady has finally come to an end . The game revolves around Scarecrow and his woeful wish to see Batman banished and terrorize the one thing he has sworn to protect : Gotham.

The story continues 9 months after the events of Arkham City (Which I will not spoil if you haven't experienced it) . Scarecrow uses his fear toxin to evacuate the city and makes Gotham his playground to put batman to a final test . He is joined by a new villain 'Arkham knight' to help him take the Bat down as he hold a sort of personal grudge against batman.

I had a constant fear that the story would end up to be a little too simplistic with a reveal of who the Arkham Knight is and a series of events leading to take down scare crow . However , I was surprised to see a rather more sophisticated and more complex story with a surprising return of a beloved character who you probably already guessed but don't worry , this won't spoil your experience with the game as he makes his appearance pretty early on. The character however is used very cleverly by rocksteady and I have to give them credit for it. The story can be a little confusing at times but you'll realize that it was meant to be and the events that take place throughout the story can be explained due to the fact that batman has been infected with a small amount of fear toxin. Not to worry , this also takes place very early on in the game. The plot begins with a very basic opening , where batman's objective seems straightforward and nothing to pull your interest other than the gameplay . Almost an hour and a half in and you'll find yourself confused with many of the events taking place and it's just a blast of interesting plot lines that come into play , which made the inner me very happy, and found myself questioning every moment of the game : 'How and when does this take place?' . It picks up its pace from there till the end of the game. It consists of many sequences that'll probably freak you out (Trust me, I had a heart attack). And That is exactly the kind of story that was required and Rocksteady have done a phenomenal job at it . Poison Ivy makes a return , Harley Quinn , Oracle(Barbra Gordon) etc. Gordon himself plays a heavier role than previous titles and also having a small but effective narrative control over the story. The disappointment comes when rocksteady seemed to make it very obvious who would be the Arkham knight . Although fans of the game will be happy that they pulled his backstory from a beloved segment in the comics . However the reveal seemed too obvious , but luckily rocksteady did not keep the reveal as a climax however reveal who he truly is at least a good bit before the ending . It also came to my attention that it seemed as though rocksteady wanted us to know who the Arkham knight is before batman could. The end however, was satisfying enough and had clever aspects to it that you'll have to play and find out for yourself.

The game play present in the game is instantly familiar to anyone whose played the series' previous titles but manages to add effective new enemy types , a new takedown mechanic and environmental takedowns that help further improve the already fantastic combat system . Predator sections of the game are as satisfying as it was before and the the investigative segments of the game were handled brilliantly . The game has challenging segments where you'll have figure your way out using your gadgets and the bat mobile and they have been the most well done puzzle segments in the series . You'd often wonder how they even came up with it . The gadgets are back with a few new ones and nifty new tricks with the old.

The biggest addition to the game has been the bat mobile . Rocksteady's developed have put incredible time into its details and how it's works . However the bat mobile may sometimes feel like it over stays it's welcome because of its large segments of tank battles using its battle mode . Although I could enjoy it , other friends of mine said they had grown tired of numerous segments of tank battles. This has been the case for many , however this isn't a game breaker. Initially people do have trouble handling the vehicle , but a few hours in and they'll be getting along well. But it isn't easy , give it time. It has been blended with the world really well and used very cleverly , it's remote control feature is also one that's thought provokingly well used. There was always a feeling of life in the vehicle and that's what rocksteady was definitely planning to make you feel.

Coming to the open world of Gotham , you'll be more than impressed with the work they've done on the world, incredibly well detailed and atmospheric like it should be, filled with tall building and intensely lit skyscrapers that adds great verticality to the game. This along with ambient soundtracks playing in the background all provoked to make this game truly immersive .

The soundtrack by Nick Arundel and David Buckley deserves recognition as they add to the overall immersive feel of the game composing tracks for almost every segment of the game from predator segments to emotional and thrilling sequences.

A complete closure for the game can be seen when the game is 100% complete.

Perhaps the biggest let down ever...
ryano209917 August 2015
I have never looked forward to a game more then Arkham Knight. Everything was in place for this game to meet every expectation... And I hate to say, but this game is only slightly above average. The story of this game is just not that interesting. It just feels like an average Btman story at best. The game spoils the main villains identity half way through. The side quests are boring and uninspired. The use of the Batmobile is so overblown and overused. There is barely anything in this game that could be considered a boss fight. The DLC for this game is laughable. Take away the excellent graphics and your left with a game that just feels like a very generic ending. This may be the biggest missed opportunity I've seen in a long time. Story driven games live and die on their ability to tell a compelling narrative and had Rocksteady really taken the time to craft a compelling narrative with the characters then this game would rock. As is, its a painfully, pretty looking, lackluster action game. If it weren't for this being a Batman game I think a lot more people would be more honest about it's quality....

The Worst in the Arkham Series
JimmyWhimmyNutrinSon25 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
So, Arkham fanboys hated Arkham Origins. Why? They just said there was no innovation and it was just a bad game. Well, since the release of Arkham Knight it's obvious the only reason people hated it because it wasn't made by Rocksteady. How do I know this? This game. It's made by Rocksteady and is loved by fans, even though Origins is better. Let's start with the good stuff. Voice acting is great, like usual. Conroy and Hamill deliver once again. The other voice actors also do their jobs. The ending is pretty good (ending of the main story, not Knightfall Protocol). Some character designs are good, such as Arkham Knight, Scarecrow, Batman and Red Hood. However, I do have lots of bad things to say about the game. For a start, the Batmobile is a tank, and is overused. You need it for about 70% of the game. No joke. Riddler's character design looks horrible. He looks more like a mechanic. I guess that's because he builds racetracks for you now. Is he the Riddler or is he the Racer? My final complaint is the Arkham Knight. It's just obvious that he's Jason Todd. The Red Hood story pack, the way he talks to Batman, his outfit, the constant hallucinations of Joker beating him up. It just wasn't a good reveal. To be honest, I give this a 5/10. Now if you excuse me, I'll get back to failing to do the Riddler race tracks. Good day.

Awesome game with some flaws
kenthegamer18 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
When Arkham Knight was coming out I as well as others was excited for the conclusion of the Arkham series that was started in 2009 by Rocksteady. So is this conclusion worthy of the Arkham series? The graphics of this game are phenomenal. The best looking Batman game to date. The gameplay is just as a good as the other ones. Combat is just as smooth,Predator is a lot more diverse then it was in the previous games including more thugs such as Medics,Gunners,Etc. There's even new gadgets such as one that allows you to change your voice to set traps on enemy's. The new feature that fans have been asking for the Batmobile controls very well. It drives smoothly and functions well in combat. The story of this game is that after the Jokers death the Scarecrow makes his return after being presumed dead in the original Arkham Asylum now he wants a city of fear and now has an alliance with the Penquin,Two Face,Harley Quinn, and a new foe the Arkham Knight who wants Batman dead. The city of Gotham is evacuated and is taken over by the criminals of Gotham Kevin Conroy returns as the Caped Crusader Batman and like always he's fantastic in this role. *Spoiler Alert* The Joker returns and is voiced by to my surprise Mark Hamil and to be honest he's one of my favorite parts of this game. John Noble is the new voice of the Scarecrow and I honestly prefer him more then the original he sounds a lot more menacing.

Now that I said all the positives I had with this game now it's time for the negatives. The game relays on the Batmobile way too much It's nice to have but the game uses it A lot more then it should have. Also there are hardly if not any boss battles in this game Deathstrokes boss battle is sure to disappoint a lot. The Arkham Knights identity is pretty obvious and not that very surprising. The Scarecrow despite being advertised as the main villain takes a backseat in this game. Despite being able to play as Catwoman,Nightwing, and Robin in the main story you only play as them in certain parts of the story and can't free roam as them.

Despite it's flaws and not being my favorite of the Arkham series which is Arkham City. Arkham Knight is a great game worthy of the Arkham Series, and I think that Batman fans and fans of the series should get this game.

Dawn of the Knight
hellraiser714 July 2018
This is the final game in the Batman Arkham series, which I'll admit as a fan of the games and the Batman franchise makes me a little sad, but then again as an old saying goes it's best to quit while your ahead, when I think about it what more can they really do. Though this might not be the absolute end I'm sure we'll have plenty more "Batman" games sometime in the future, but it will probably be a different series; but all the same it's finally time to put this series to rest.

This is my third favorite game in the series, one of the things I love about these games is how better and better they keep getting but all good in their own way because each has an intriguing story which is what the Batman franchise is made of.

There are all the familiar features and the open world aspect, along with the beat em up and stealth battles, which isn't too different but that's fine by me, I wouldn't want it any other way. Though here the open world is broadened even more as all of Gotham has become a war zone as its overrun with criminals really love that kind of bleak setting it's reminiscent of the movie "Escape from New York" as you have an even bigger feel of isolation as it's your very much alone trying to take back the city; though also with this chaotic setting you have the total freedom to go and do whatever you want to do.

One big feature of this game is the fact you finally get to use the Batmobile which is awesome it's my favorite fictional vehicle of all time, the design it's a bit similar to the one from Nolan's "Batman:" films but also from the recent DC films which the Ben Affleck Batman. It was just awesome having veacular action in a Batman game once more and just enhanced the experience of feeling like Batman. It's not just another way to get from point A to B but there are other things you get to do with the Batmobile. From shooting a grabbling hook which can pull things down or even act as an electric cable to operate equipment. Operating you Batmobile by remote which is very helpful when you separated or there are certain obstacles that you need to clear. But your vehicle gets to change into a tank which is a spider like form similar to the Tachcoma's from the "Ghost in the Shell" franchise.

The action in the sequences is solid from the chases which are similar to the arcade game "Chase H.Q." and the tank combat which is solid and a lot of fun. Though my favorite portions of using the Batmoble was when you got to go against Arkham Knight which consist of both a chase and a tank battle both were cool.

But of course, what also powers this game is the story which I thought was very good even though I liked most of the past one the best but good all the same. The plotline is a bit similar to some of the Batman stories your familiar with but it's really in it's execution that makes it stand out. This has a great voice acting cast most consist of my favorite voice actors. From Troy Baker whom was great as the voice of the Arkham Knight it really conveyed menace but also deep anger and obsessiveness in his quest for vengeance against the Dark Knight. I really love how there is this revolving mystery to his identity, from how well he knows Batman you can easily guess the identity of the Arkaham Knight is someone we already know and if you've read the Batman comics long enough you can easily guess who it is, heck it's even constantly hinted at in the video game.

Ashley Greene, I thought was really solid as Barbra Gordon/Oracle/Batgirl, yes I have seen the "Twilight" movies (not a fan, my niece is for the record, but also for the record the actress is hot) it would be cool seeing her do voice acting more she's capable of it.

Johnathan Banks whom you probably know from "Breaking Bad" though I personally remember him from "Community" he was excellent as Commissioner Gordon. Along with John Noble from "Fringe" as Scarecrow whom is just excellent, he's probably my favorite voice for the character, as it just gives me chills as it's conveys evil lunacy, his character's motive just like in the comics is simply he wants to make people afraid but here it's a bit broader as we see he's doing this to snuff out hope altogether, reduce the forces of good into putty. I really like the design of his character from the IV needle claws he's wears much like the razor glove Fready Kruger wears which makes it ironically fitting. But also, his mask which sort of reminds me a little of Leatherfaces's mask as we see a little of his mouth which looks a bit fraked up as we see some skin decay or burn makes which make him lipless; that physical feature just shows how fraked up his psychic truly is.

However, the cream of the crop are the two main stars Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamell reprising their roles for this game one last time. I really like that we see some sort of back and forth between the two which can be metaphor for Batman dealing with PTS (Post Traumatic Stress) as he still reels from the death of the Joker and the trauma he's having trouble dealing with no thanks to Mr. J. Or you can say it really is the evil spirit of the Joker tormenting Batman, trying to psychologically break him. Which makes the conflict in the game all the more interesting as we see Batman isn't just fighting to save Gotham but to save his sanity/soul from becoming lost in all the lunacy around him.

Well nothing left to say except this was a fitting end to a great video game series. As an old saying goes, "it's always darkest before the dawn."

Rating: 4 stars

I love this game a little too much
Puroo19 April 2021
It's an unpopular opinion, I know, but Batman: Arkham Knight is the best game in the entire Batman Arkham series. The costume looks awesome (and in case you don't like it, there are plenty to choose from), there's the Batmobile, the story is the most unpredictable one if you go in without any spoilers, the graphics are amazing and there are a ton of quests to do so that you don't get bored with the game any time soon. The main missions take nearly 20 hours to complete. If that doesn't tell you about the game's mammoth size, probably the fact that it's only 1 of the 12 quests that you can do will.

The story begins from about 8 months since the death of Joker. And this within itself gives the developers enough of a reason to fill the game with Joker's ideas. We often see Joker's hallucinations taunting Batman and standing in places where we have to go when we have to perform a task. Joker also has a part up ahead in the game where we get to play as him, and it's really scary in the beginning. Occasionally Joker encourages us because he didn't want anyone to kill Batman and take away his dream, but at the same time he also wants us to die so that Joker can take over Batman's body. This gives a very detailed layer to Joker, and makes him one of the best written characters in spite of being dead.

Now let's talk about the Batmobile. I am well aware of the people who say that they find the Batmobile missions annoying, and I don't mean to challenge anyone's opinion. But personally the Batmobile is one of the things that made me like this game the most in the series. Batmobile allows us to get anywhere faster and it has a pretty good control, unlike many open world games like GTA IV or Watch_Dogs 2 where the car drives like a sailboat. On setting it in Battle Mode we can control it even easily and once upgraded, it's literally an indestructable piece of tank. After having completed the game I often drive around in the Dark Knight's Tumbler while wearing the Christian Bale Batman outfit, or the Batman v Superman Batmobile while wearing Ben Affleck's outfit. It's really fun to do all that. I'm okay with you if you don't like it, but I like it a lot.

And finally let's talk about the game in general. The voice acting is great once again. Though my PC would lag sometimes when the cutscenes would play, and I don't blame it because it is happening even though the video memory of the game is well below my graphic card's. So for now I have only played the main mission and uninstalled the game, so that I continue it from my cloud save once I get a gaming PC. Then I also really like Batman's suit over here. At first I thought I'd try out the other suits as well, but I always came back to the game one. Personally I'd have prefered if the suit had white eyes too, but that's probably just a choice, and I'm disappointed over here because literally every suit shows our eyes.

Overall Batman: Arkham Knight is one of the most beautiful games I have played this year. I have played it for 19 hours by now and hopefully, like I said, I will play it when I get a better PC. People often talk about the Arkham series being the one where we get to be Batman. In my opinion this game is the one that shows it the most.

One of the GREATEST GAMES
jharaldson-7388827 August 2021
I still play this game to this day. It's so fun. There's literally so many missions and side missions and other short story missions and different costumes that you can't get sick of this game. The whole story is great and fun. Getting to drive the Batmobile is super cool! And all the villains are pretty much in this game! Some people don't think this is the best of the Arkham series but I believe this one is the best!

THIS is Batman
pk123315 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
While I enjoyed all of the Arkham games, I have to say this is by far the best. The gameplay is incredible, the combat system is smooth and polished, and the story is wonderfully epic. The Arkham Knight's character is well-developed and the plot twist, though not all that surprising, is still welcomed. The ability to finally explore every inch of Gotham was also long overdue. The only downside would be that the use of the Batmobile, while highly enjoyable, gets a little excessive. I was particularly disappointed when the side mission to face off against Deathstroke led up to a tank battle. I assumed once I beat his tank we would both hop out of our vehicles and engage in hand-to-hand as in Arkham Origins (my favorite boss battle of the series). However, it was simply a cut scene of Batman taking him prisoner. This is only a minor disappointment in a massive gaming experience. 10/10 recommend this to any gamer or Batman fan.

A Fitting End
cchenders4018 October 2022
Maybe this is a hot take but I think this is the best of the Arkham trilogy. The story is the best of the three games in my opinion.

Everything with the Bat family, the nuances of Scarecrows goals, and Batman's personal trauma in the game are so well explored, and it all emotionally resonates. I think this is what sets the game apart from the other two. The first two games have great stories that have awesome twists and turns and do amazing villain work, but they never really develop batman and the bat family, but this game does in a really intense way that earns an M rating.

The gameplay is the peak of the series. The combat, puzzles, and movement feel the best it has felt yet.

The city of Gotham is beautiful, I have always said that art style is better than graphics and this game has both. I played it for the first time in 2022 (the whole trilogy for that matter in about 2 months). It looks so good on Xbox series consoles. The graphics, art style and atmosphere is so good and immersive. It is always raining in Gotham and that adds so much to the atmosphere. It feels like a old school detective film.

My biggest complaints with the first two games was how repetitive combat feels, and this game answers that critique with the addition of the Batmobile. I know this is the low point for most people in the game, but I have a different take after playing all three games in a row in 2022. The Batmobile adds much needed gameplay variety. The issue with the Batmobile is not how much it is used in the game, or how much time you spend in it, but the lack of enemy variety for Batmobile combat sequences. It was refreshing after three Arkham games to play so differently in the Batmobile, but this part of the game ran into a familiar problem of poor enemy variety (all three games struggle with this). The Cobra tanks are the absolute worst, are tedious, and annoying. The Batmobile is super fun, but the combat sections get tedious and repetitive because of poor enemy vehicle design and variety. But that does not change the fact that this series needed the change of pace with the batmobile, and that it is fun to be in and drive around.

Let's talk about the open world. It is amazing, this is Gotham city at its best. It is a beautiful city that I think is just big enough. There is plenty to do in the world, lot's of side content, and really good extra missions and storylines to tackle. What I find most impressive is that the side content is just enough. There aren't 100 different tiny questlines but around 15-20 well made and thought out quests that offer variety.

This game also has some really good dlc (Please play a matter of family!) and great double hero combat (Nightwing and Batman fighting together is just too good!).

Overall this is a fitting end to this amazing trilogy. I think it is the best, I don't get the hate for this game at all. I encourage you to play all of them. This one is currently on Gamepass too which is a hard to beat deal!

I've "been the Batman" four times now
TheCorniestLemur31 August 2021
So this has been a long time coming...sorry about that.

When I reviewed Arkham Origins, I was about to move back to university, and in all the chaos, I kind of...forgot about Arkham Knight. By the time I was playing games again, there were other things I wanted to play, which you've seen me review, but I'm here now! Arkham Knight, bois.

What I remembered about it from my first playthrough is that it was still fun to play, that the experience of being Batman is as cool as it ever was in this series, but it was hugely dragged down by a pretty boring story. And what I'm going to say after this playthrough is...pretty much the same thing.

Starting with the story, then...to me it defines the phrase "mixed bag". A good chunk of it is really, really boring. Scarecrow has returned with a plan to cover Gotham in his fear toxin, which is a plot I think has only been done 153 times before in various Batman material, and he is assisted by the titular "Arkham Knight", who has flooded the city streets with an endless supply of drone tanks to keep the police at bay.

Scarecrow is the most boring villain in any of these games by far, every time you hear his droning, somatic voice on the city PA system you have to fight to stay awake, because all he does is mumble about "what you really fear, Batman", and "by the end of this night, you will no longer be a legend", and goes on and on and on with this same tedious tosh for the whole game. What the hell happened to the Scarecrow from Arkham Asylum, who was a cackling, witchy-voiced and yet genuinely scary highlight in that game?

The Arkham Knight isn't much better, because instead of boring you to death, he has opted to whine you into submission. Endless, constant whining whenever it's his turn on the PA system, and unlike the perpetually funny Riddler, whose whinging is played for laughs, I think you were supposed to take the Knight seriously? He comes off like an edgy 15 year old who just discovered black metal, and to make it even worse, his identity is played up as a big mystery to be revealed at the end of the game, but this is a lose-lose situation, because if you know the character who he really is from Batman lore, you automatically know that this is the Knight.

Hell, I played this with my girlfriend watching, who knows next to nothing about Batman other than the most famous villains, and even she guessed who he was correctly within...I don't know, ten minutes of him appearing? And if you don't know this character at all, then the reveal will have no emotional impact on you whatsoever, because it isn't even a character that's appeared in the Arkham series up until now. Like I said, lose-lose.

So the good part of this game's main story concerns the inclusion of a third villain. A third villain I won't be spoiling here, but they completely save the narrative from being a total wash, and make things really darkly psychological in a pretty cool way. That's all I'll say here, but trust me, this aspect of the main quest is really, really good. It honestly makes going through the otherwise flat main story completely worth it.

Some of the side quests have more interesting villains and stories - I particularly enjoyed one involving tracking a serial killer hanging his mutilated victims around the city while playing opera music at the crime scene, but even when the side quests are more interesting, they do mostly revolve around doing the same thing a few times before capturing the big bad. And naturally, the Riddler has still been leaving far too much of his rubbish all over the city, which still pads the game out too much, even if it is really satisfying being able to lay the Bat Smackdown (TM) on him afterwards.

Presentation wise, the game is top tier stuff. The voice acting is amazing across the board, except for Scarecrow I guess, the rest of the sound design once again brings that dirty, corrupt city atmosphere the Arkham series does so well onto the eighth generation flawlessly, cutscenes stood out to me as being pretty well directed, and holy balls does Gotham and all its streets, abandoned buildings, villain hideouts, etc etc, look absolutely stunning. The open world is still a delight to glide, and this time, drive around.

Which brings me to the gameplay...specifically, the inclusion of the Batmobile. I remember it being almost as controversial as the game's disastrous PC version at release, with people complaining it was overused, it's just a tank, and other things like that. And to be honest...I don't get what the big deal is. It's not like there's less stealthing around and beating thugs up because of it's inclusion, or like the game has suddenly turned into "Batman-llefield". There's parts of the main story and side quests where you have to use the Batmobile, sure, but I felt like it brought some nice variety into the typical Arkham formula, with tank battles, puzzles that incorporate it, car chases, that kind of thing. I like it, and I don't think it was ever used too much for its own good. And if you don't, you can ignore it in the open world and glide around the same way you always could.

The rest of the gameplay is unfortunately starting to feel a bit "been there, done that" to me, because it's mostly the same beating dudes up and strangling dudes with guns until they stop moving (deffo not killing them though), with only a small handful of changes, most of which are fairly inconsequential. I suppose it's acceptable considering how much effort likely had to be put into the Batmobile, but some of these additions are just kind of dumb in concept.

For example, the fear multi takedown thing isn't so much a gameplay innovation as it is a "push button to win" mechanic, especially considering you can upgrade it to take down five dudes at once, and it recharges after a single normal takedown afterwards. It certainly looks cool though.

Combat is still fun, but as far as I can remember, there aren't any new enemy types introduced other than those stupid annoying medics who don't do anything than obnoxiously revive guys you've already beaten, which is pretty disappointing. The only major change to combat is the ability to disarm guys armed with melee weapons and use them yourself, which is pretty fun to be fair.

There's still the ever-present issue of some upgrades feeling pretty useless in the grand scheme of things, but at the end of the day, this is a really fun game still. The core Arkham experience is polished to a point here, so if you enjoyed the other games, you'll probably enjoy this one.

But please don't expect the great big mystery that was hyped up of "ooooooh, who is the Arkham Knight", because depending on your knowledge, there either isn't one at all, or it'll mean jack squat to you.

Disappointing in almost every way.
BeatleNumber94 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to like this game. I loved Arkham Asylum, and Arkham City, and even though I didn't get to play Arkham Origins, I think I would have thought it was okay, from gameplay footage I've seen. But this? This is definitely the weakest in this fantastic series.

Let me start off by saying the writing is terrible, I mean it is just lazy! The "twist" as to who the Arkham Knight is, is so incredibly obvious, to the point where they're practically beating you over the head with it; "Look the Arkham Knight is calling Batman 'old man' and is acting like he knows him. Get it? Look he's calling Batman a coward and is acting like he's been betrayed by him. Get it?! Look the game keeps referencing Jason Todd's story over and over! GET IT?!" Batman, himself, makes so many stupid decisions, for no other reason other than "the plot demands it." And probably the most insulting part of the writing is that the game kills off a supporting character that I really liked, and I had a legitimate emotional reaction to it, only to bring that character back and say, "Whoop! It was all just a hallucination, they're fine!" Even the ending is terrible, it had me with my jaw on the floor saying "What the hell just happened." This was not a satisfying conclusion to a great series like this.

The gameplay can also be very monotonous and repetitive, notably the bat-mobile sections. Throughout the game I dreaded going back to using the bat-mobile, most of the time you'll be dodging and shooting at numerous drones, and they have little to no variation on it. Even when I had to travel across Gotham, I would just fly, because y'know, that's way more fun than driving a car that controls like you're on a skating rink. Do you remember all the fun, and innovative boss battles in the previous games? The fight with Bane, Poison Ivy, and of course, the crowning boss fight with Mr. Freeze in Arkham City. Well guess what? There are absolutely no boss fights to speak of in this game. I'm not joking. There's a, sort of, interesting climax at the end, but no boss battle anywhere in the game. Seriously, Scarecrow is the main villain in this game and there's not one fight with him, not even a nightmare sequence even close to reminiscent of the fantastic ones in the first game.

Another problem with the game is, I feel like the developers tried to cram too many things in the game at once. There are so many side villains, that could have been used much better. Arkham city had a lot of side villains, but they managed to weave them into the story well enough that they felt important, and like they had a place in the story. This game on the other hand just throws Two-Face, Penguin, Man-Bat, Harley Quinn, among others, in without much explanation for why they're there, that it just makes the content look like a cluttered mess. For example, Hush seriously shows up as a "side mission" that's just around 5 minutes long, Hush is such a cool villain, and they could have easily brought him in in a way that didn't feel forced and kept him around for a while, but no, it's one encounter and he's defeated. Hell I don't even feel the need to find all of the Riddler's collectibles, and there's actually less in this game than in Arkham City.

After beating up this game so badly, is there anything I actually liked about it? Yes, actually. The voice-acting as always is top notch. With people like Keven Conroy, Jonathan Banks, Troy Baker, Grey Griffin, the whole cast does a great job. Including, Spoiler, Mark Hamill reprising his role as the Joker. He is absolutely hilarious in every scene he's in. Hell He practically saves this game for me. Even though I hated the writing in this game, it did manage to pull out a few interesting twists in the game. One involving some victims of the Joker's blood toxin from the second game. I also still liked the stealth sequences in the game. They're just as strong as they've been throughout the series. Hell, they might even be the best of the series. The game keeps adding new and interesting stuff to these sequences that make them more challenging, and make you think about how to approach each thug to take them down.

But even with the fun I had playing some of the game, I can't deny my true thoughts, and I don't care if they're unpopular. This is not the conclusion the Arkham franchise deserved. The writing is lazy, the gameplay gets very monotonous, I was going to give this game a 6/10, but that terrible ending dropped it down to a 5/10, and this game is lucky I'm trying to be fair.

Hopefully in the future they'll be more cool Batman games like Arkham Asylum, and City, I need something else to wash this bad taste out of my mouth.

I keep restarting this game. It's the best game I've ever played. If you wanna feel like a badass in a cowl, break some bones and do ninja stuff. This is it. Even if you just like video games this is the game. Games don't get any better than this.
