Here we have the "Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2014" and the title already tells you the occasion and year of this annual awards show. For the Teen Choice Awards, it is surfboards and for the Kids Choice awards here it is still slime. And a lot of slime actually. I have seen some of these and it feels like it was more slime than ever. But first things first: Here on imdb it says the show runs for 90 minutes, but the truth is slightly over 70 and the difference is caused by commercials I guess. Anyway, the host is Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg mentioning another Oscar nomination by a presenter at some point, but Marky Mark's running gag this time is rubbing into our faces that he can't be slimed in the most arrogant manner possible. Of course, it is all about the comedy and everybody knew he will get slimed eventually, just not that it is his own kids bringing it on him. It was a bit cringeworthy though how he called Kevin Hart who was sitting with the the funniest guy on the planet or so before it happened. If I had to pick anybody from the show for that title, I'd probably go with Chris Rock. He's awesome. Other than that, we see the usual people from this event who have shown up many times already: LL Cool J, Ariana Grande, John Cena, Robert Downey Jr., Adam Sandler and Shaun White (no clue why he is always there and present because he has like zero connection to the entertainment industry). Kristen Bell was also there because of her involvement with Frozen, but yeah like with RDJ I don't like her really. What she's done on House of Lies somehow makes her not qualified to show up on a kids show. Other than that, there was some music, okay song in the middle, boring song at the end. We get many film references and promotions too, such as Transformers as we see Optimus Prime making sure Wahlberg won't be slimed too early. A few others had to get it first, such as Kaley Cuoco, at that point still married to tennis pro Ryan Sweeting. Not the only BBT cast member who was there that night, but Jim Parsons managed to go unslimed. What else? Oh yeah, Lea Michele from Glee was there and it was less than a year at that point since the untimely death of her fellow Gleek Cory Monteith who was of course also her boyfriend. I read she was destroyed and heartbroken for a long time, but she showed up here for this fun event mhm. Also this show from five years struggled a bit with the concept of an award show. i never like it when they just rush categories quickly in with the brodcaster naming the winners and not announcing them officiall on stage, even if it is weak acts like One Direction. And they honestly excluded half of the winners looking at the list now. Unreal stuff. While including categories like "Favorite Male Buttkicker"??? That is low, even too low for the Kids Choice Awards.. What I like though is that they say "Favorite" in front of basically all categories and not "Best" because well I guess you can understand what I mean. Most of what would be called "best" is not even "good". Besides, it felt often as if the winners already knew in advance they'd win and I never like it. Smug Downey was the best example. They did some acts here like deciding between two young men I have never heard about which of them shall be slimed or of course the big rodeo thingey. I mean they would not have prepared that without going through with it right? Kinda strange they packed it in a poll. A bit surprised they got somebody like Wahlberg to host here, but I still think he was among the better aspects this time. All in all, not a failure, but not good enough for an award show. I do like that they kept it short though.
