- A banker's family is to be included in a protection programme after the family father became involved in negligent transactions with a gangster. But he will only receive comprehensive protection if he provides the needed information.
- Philip Darankov unscrupulously walks over dead bodies. From prison, he has the prosecution witness Victor Miro blown up along with his personal security. In order to get the gangster boss anyway, the police set their sights on the Hamburg banker Simon Dreher. Despite heavily incriminating statements against him, Dreher persistently denies having had anything to do with money laundering on Darankov's behalf. When Dreher is wounded by gunshots, LKA investigator Ursula Thern and her team take the initiative: they get Dreher and his family out of harm's way and offer the family the chance to go into hiding under a new identity. A witness protection programme is only possible if everyone cooperates. The decision is particularly difficult for mum Rieke, who is secretly having an affair with sailing instructor Rolf, and daughter Lona, who is newly engaged to musician David. This is because they have to completely give up all their previous personal contacts for the sake of their safety.
