So Long Michelle Borth aka Catherine!
ShelbyTMItchell24 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
At the McG house, everybody is playing poker. When Catherine gets the call that a friend of a friend of hers, that rescued her in Afghan, is being kidnapped.

Catherine and Steve head to Afghan without any proper authorization. Despite the fact Catherine is out of the military and Steve is in the reserves though.

But things end up rough as Steve is captured and beaten physically, mentally, and emotionally. After Catherine calls Danny to come rescue him, he gets the military to rescue his friend and nurse him back to health.

But after two bullying officers, one from the CIA and another from the Navy, give him a free pass but warn Steve never to step in Afghan anymore or they will throw him in jail. If Steve was in better shape, he would have taken both men out and would had told them to shove it where the sun don't shine. But he was too tired and beaten up over it to do that. And plus Danny made sure that Steve would not do that at all as well.

But really the producers and writers left open the door for Michelle B's Catherine to return again. As hopefully the producers will bring closure to hers and Steve's story. Along with the long overdue Doris story. As both need to come to a closure.

So long Michelle, you will at least be missed by me who did not mind you at all.

Warning: Spoilers
Steve accompanies Catherine on an unauthorized visit to Afghanistan when she learns that the people who saved her life there seven years before have had their son kidnapped by the Taliban who will most probably shall use him as a suicide-bomber.

Steve is taken prisoner and beaten savagely before he is rescued. He does find an abusive officer who is angry that he made the trip without the proper authorization.

The two being separated at the end of the episode shall probably provide for an excellent cliff-hanger with the series about to break for the summer.

Political correctness over accuracy
Evano108016 July 2015
I understand that Hollywood feels they need to display women in a "powerful role" in television but to put them into positions that they simply aren't in is ridiculous. Borth's character in the show is a navy intelligence officer. People any bit familiar with the military would understand that this means they are not infantry which is how they portray her in the show. In one episode her character says to the navy SEAL who is about to sneak into North Korea that she is just as suited to for the mission as he is. It is a small detail but it is still quite irritating in the show when they don't display military characters correctly for political correctness instead.

Welp. The writers saw Lone Survivor.

Warning: Spoilers
Just don't buy the whole "Catherine as lone survivor" storyline. Not as invested in her as a character and confused how naval intelligence was suddenly on the ground in Afghanistan.

This storyline is the poor man's tv version of the true events showcased in the Lone Survivor movie.

Still love the show and the rest of the episode outside of the Catherine Storyline was good.

Story line is too much.
thunderscoot19 March 2017
Not trying to knock the effort of entertainment here, but please, from start to finish its way far fetched. First, having a former Navy female just pull some strings and she & a Navy Seal reservist are whisked into Afghan country on horseback and get involved in a rescue mission? The only way to have made it worse is if "Dog" went along from the card game at the opening of the show with his paintball gun. Lol. You can do and have done much better.

Crime Drama Please
PartialMovieViewer3 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is such a good show, I look forward to the show every week. I will say that it is time for Steve to retire his Trident and Oak Leaves.

Crime stories only...please. The cast is excellent when it comes down to catching the bad guys (and girls). Fantastic action, superb interaction - a little far-fetched but easy to digest. I am over the stuff grossly outside police work. These guys need to stay on that track.

It was nice when McGarrett was dating that LTJG Catherine Whatever - but if her Navy story is done...finish it. Or make her part of the team. Her story is way too much of a stretch, not needed and too much of a distraction.

Last Time Catherine Appears as a Regular
shelbythuylinh11 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Beginning of the end for Catherine and Steve despite the fans not really liking the actress Michelle Borth playing Catherine but found not problem myself. She is the only one that makes him feel human.

And that both go overseas to find the son of a man that seemed to be kidnapped. Bad part is just the two of them there.

Danny finds Steve with the help of some Navy Seals as Steve is warned by the CIA and Navy to never pull a stunt like that again. Or he would be court martialed and thrown in prison.

But they do not know Steve well as Steve is one to never say no to nothing nor nobody.

Domestic case was where an organ was stolen and how that took a backseat compared to Steve and Catherine.

Catherine may not be a series regular after this episode but she later appeared several more times there.
