From the very first second, there is no doubt that "The Librarians" has cheesy, silly fantasy at its heart and that it is proud of it. All the situations are over-acted, and the action falls into the silly (a couple of action scenes seemingly out of a primary school play with the bad guys jumping and falling at the first touch).
The first scene, where Rebecca Romijn's Eve Baird meets Noah Wyle's librarian Flynn Carsen already sets the tone: Eve is following some 'bad people' and there, out of nowhere, appears Flynn searching for an old artifact. It is a funny scene that helps the viewer connect with the characters and get into the mood. From that moment, the couple discover that someone is killing prospective librarians and team up to search the truth and help potential victims.
It is easy to see where the show is going: magical artifacts, a rag- up team of brawn and brain, silly comedy, and bad people that seem to have come out of a pulp novel. And it does a good job of balancing action, fantasy and comedy. However, it is all so over-the-top and it tries so hard to make it all funny that it becomes a little bit too much, as that person that keeps talking and you are just waiting for them to take a breath so you can say something like 'yes'. It is just the first episode, though, so it is still trying to find its own pace.
I haven't watched the TV-movies with Noah Wyle that came before the show, but "The Librarians" seems to be on the right track to join all those light entertainment shows, like "Warehouse 13" that mix fantasy, myths and comedy.
