Time to move on
dierregi12 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The struggle to keep Sterling Cooper afloat is almost over and for many it will be a relief to let go. For many but not for everybody.

When Don is informed about McCann incorporating SCP, he's at first despondent and then he tries an escape route to California. It worked before but history will not repeat itself.

A meeting with McCann reveals that big accounts will go to the SCP boys, Don being promised nonetheless than Coca Cola. However, only Ted and Roger warm up to the plan. Pete is unhappy and Joan afraid she won't be taken seriously.

The five go for a "celebratory" drink, but one by one they all slip away to private engagements: Ted with a new lover, Joan with Richard, Pete with his ex and Roger with Marie the crazy shrew. Don is completely alone, because even creepy Diana left without leaving a forwarding address.

Elsewhere, Peggy is also upset about the McCann move, but a head-hunter informs her that's the best move for her, provided she doesn't stay for over three years. Also, Peggy gets sentimental with Stan about her lost boy, complaining about double standards for men and women

Warning: Spoilers
I wonder if I'm imagining it but Don appeared older here. Maybe, he is worried even with his bold new idea as consolidation is about to take place in the firm.

Must we see that in the advertising agency any achievement is a signal to start boozing it up with your comrades?

We see what it could be like in getting your child into a private school.

Peggy's revelation about a child is quite revealing. Is that why she is experiencing difficulty in choosing a child for the commercial?

Perhaps, Don wanted a move to California to settle his furniture problem in the apartment. Or perhaps, he craves for his recent ex-wife who is now residing there.

And, Finally...
TheFearmakers9 April 2024
A dead man directs this episode, as in Pryce, that is, Jared Harris, a character that, like many on this show, was dropped for no apparent reason while idiots like Glen remains, and never goes away...

Although thankfully he's not in this episode like he haunted the previous one... this one's the best of the winding-down episodes from a show about to end...

Providing the viewer and characters the same kind of hope that's been underlining this series from the get-go: that maybe, just maybe, they can move on as a smaller underdog company instead of being gobbled up by a gigantic one...

Resulting in a nice twist and basically, there's a beginning, middle and end here instead of just a prolonged middle, like we've been used to this (second part of the final) season.
