Two weeks after Angelo's death, everyone finds their own means of coping.

Warning: Spoilers
With Angelo's death being the first major one on the show, it naturally creates an unfamiliar atmosphere. For while the show isn't without tragedy and frightening moments, this is one of the most morose moments we have seen. However, being that the characters have been developed to the point where most are fairly familiar, none of their actions come as a surprise. Those who you expect to have destructive behavior do, those you expect to close up do, and the ones you expect to keep busy seek ways to take their mind off things.

Topic 1: Those Mostly Unaffected – Toby & Kathryn

With Angelo gone it means more time for Toby, unfortunately, whose DJ career will likely be his biggest focus. Sadly though, with Toby getting more air time comes with Tank's return and Ms. Summers, who we met when Daphne was going for that Hispanic scholarship, possibly having a bigger role too. You see, she is Toby's neighbor, new to the area, and all the seeds are planted for them becoming something. Making me wish so much that Toby was the one in the accident, if just because he consistently has felt like the weakest, and most boring, of all the characters on this show. Hell, just him getting more air time is making me mourn Angelo and Angelo isn't even a real person.

As for Kathryn, while she is saddened by Angelo's passing she isn't doing as bad as Regina. For with Daphne giving her a guilt trip, and Daphne now being the only person around who she has a close relationship to, it makes her feel the need to go to an alcoholics anonymous meeting. So while Bay, Daphne, and John head to Chicago, Kathryn originally stays behinds to support Regina. Though with Leo and Abby coming over her focus switches to them since Regina probably isn't much for Kathryn's upbeat and hopeful personality. Especially since Regina is in no place to be helping with a baby. So with the focus being on Leo, who mentions Victor is gone, she tries to hook up Renzo and Leo. Something which is appreciated, but from Leo's standpoint he more so needs a family to help raise Abby than a boyfriend. Which, by the end of the episode, Kathryn offers to him for Abby is considered a part of the family.

Topic 2: Connecting the Dots - Bay

With a letter from Angelo's mother about a cousin in Chicago, and Daphne wanting to check North Western for their Pre-Med program, John and Kathryn think it is a good idea for the girls to head off to Chicago. With Bay though, since she is delivering bad news, she doesn't get to take her mind off Angelo, but is presented with an opportunity to get to know his side of the family. A pursuit which for the most part isn't fruitful for Angelo's cousin, Sebastian, isn't Angelo's biggest fan right now. For with Angelo just up and disappearing when he found out about Bay, and not throwing any money toward his cousin's way when he became a millionaire, after staying with him for 6 months without really contributing it seems, he is a bit bitter. So not only does Bay not learn much about Angelo, but then Sebastian tries to con her out of $700 for a vase she breaks.

Though perhaps the visit wasn't a total waste. Bay does learn about her aunt Francesca, who sadly has passed on. But, I should note, what she learns about Francesca isn't necessarily anything happy or positive, in fact it is frightening. For Sebastian tells Bay that the issues of having aneurysms is hereditary, and while Angelo lived into his 40s I assume, Francesca died when she was 18. The same age Bay is now.

Topic 3: Destructive Coping – Daphne

With Daphne the most upset over Angelo's death, especially since she was part of what lead to his final moments, her grief consumes her to the point of not only being cruel to Regina, but also to the tour guide at North Western who is a pre-med student. Said student is this wholesome Asian kid, sent from his home country to America to go to school alongside his brother, who finds himself trying to entertain a grieving Daphne who wants to let loose. Her first idea: finding alcohol at a pre- med mixer. That isn't available. So, she then asks to get high and unfortunately weed is out of supply. However, there is coke. Something which turns Daphne into a destructive little thing for not only does she destroy a couch, nearly killing someone, but then she starts threatening to destroy this poor kid's laptop. Making it so by the end of the night she eventually realizes she is going off the deep end and calls Bay to meet her at a fountain.

Leading to Daphne telling Bay what part in Angelo's death Regina had. Something which thankfully doesn't make Bay upset at Regina. And while Daphne seems like she may not get over Regina's involvement any time soon, it does lead me to hope Regina and Bay may mourn together as Daphne goes to live with the Kennish family for a while. For this really is the best time for Bay and Regina to bond since Regina is the only one who can share stories about Angelo with Bay.
