Interesting suspenseful short
cokebottle-michael3 February 2015
I found Hold to be well played out, right from the opening scenes the viewer is kept wondering what will happen to the main character...

Will a zombie appear? will a UFO descend and capture him? It kept you wondering what was going to happen right up to the end.

Interesting use of camera angles and positioning of actors in the shots just added to the suspense.

The choice of shooting location gave the film depth and you could just imagine that it was really was the end of the world.

In all a great little short ;) I look forward to this film makers next production.

What Makes Us Human????
LeeAsquith-Coe6 February 2015
We have all seen apocalyptic movies many many times covering everything from asteroids, Aliens invasions, technology outsmarting its creator or even the good old Zombie movie....which if done right can ALL be absolutely bloody fantastic. There is obviously a market for them out there, FX laden, star studded, with budgets that would make a serious dent in child poverty and hunger all over the world. And we the "paying audience" lap them up ten fold with our buckets of popcorn and super-sized buckets of sugary liquids! We switch off, paying little attention to story, totally missing plot holes the size of the national deficit, just because it has our favourite male or female actor in being directed by either an upcoming director or someone with pedigree and years of knowledge under their belts. Don't get me wrong I love them, switch off and watch the spectacle unfold, with explosions, suspense, sadness and even love. But never do we actually see the true need of what us as humans need! Now some will say "Yeah we do, we see them needing fuel, or saving the world, being the hero" and your right these things are generally covered in the 90 to 120 Min's that we are glued to our seats for. But is this really what we as humans need to survive? We need purpose for, a reason to live and practically every apocalyptic movie out their covers that......but the McGuffin is always basically 1 of 4 things. HOLD gives in my opinion another, one barely touched upon, the true perspective of what every human being needs.......human contact and it does it such a way, that its not quite what you expect. The cinematography was incredible for such a small budget short, the film steers away from the stereo typical End of the World script and takes you to a place you may not be aware existed especially in this day age, it takes you right back to the basic needs of one human being trying to survive in a world that is essentially dead. It made me think what would be the worse possible thing for any human being.....the lack of other human contact. Can't wait to see what comes from this team next!
