When Marie Flanigan, the girlfriend of the car thief Cole Foster, robs an expensive car, the police capture her. The FBI try to find the hideout of Cole but Marie does not betray Cole. Patrick Jane plots a plan to locate the spot and Lisbon is sent undercover to the cell where Marie is locked up. She befriends Marie and plots a prison break with her. Will the plan work?

"The Greybar Hotel" is a full of action episode of "The Mentalist". The conclusion with Patrick rescuing Lisbon is funny. My vote is eight.

Warning: Spoilers
Until this episode, I was very happy with every post-Red John episode, especially the ones with elaborate cons to solve crimes/identify a killer. I didn't like several choices by the writers late in this episode. They seemed to revert to a common element in the first five seasons, Jane goes off on his own to save the day but it is not realistic.

The main problem is Lisbon is not in a position to apprehend all three bad guys and puts her and Jane at risk after acting suspiciously near a table with several handguns. She did everything right in her undercover assignment up until that point. It would've been reasonable to me for Lisbon to have been shot and killed before Jane felt forced to appear to try and buy some time. It would have also been reasonable for Jane to be shot and killed after Marie recognized him. Part of the problem is rookie agent Vega and Jane are the only FBI agents at the store/murder scene? I've never liked Jane going off on his own. Even though he had two or more guns early in season six while pursuing Red John, he avoids fighting and violence in almost all other situations. However, it would have made more sense for Jane to get his hands on a weapon after taking Vega's FBI vehicle. Did anyone else notice that there were no sirens approaching the helicopter scene in the moments before the calvary arrived? Having no contact with Jane or Lisbon the FBI would have to come in with sirens blaring. I was really enjoying season 7 (on DVD) until this episode. It made me wonder if new writers came on board or maybe it was proof that the writers never had a grip on what to do with the Red John mythology. An elaborate con like the ones we saw in the second half of season six would have been great.
