- Liz Grey: It's a shame they were getting a divorce. They were well suited. Both as stupid as each other.
- DS Charlie Nelson: [about the victim] Music promoter. Ran a folk festival in the village.
- DCI John Barnaby: The Lower Crosby festival?
- DS Charlie Nelson: That's the one.
- DCI John Barnaby: Doesn't the festival start today?
- DS Charlie Nelson: Not for him it idoesn't!
- DCI John Barnaby: And you thought I'd forgotten our song.
- Sarah Barnaby: Well, you *had* forgotten our song.
- DCI John Barnaby: But then I remembered. And not only did I remember, I got the original vinyl. Signed as well.
- Sarah Barnaby: You went to so much trouble. Thank you.
- [she kisses him]
- DS Charlie Nelson: You're going to be late.
- DCI John Barnaby: Car keys!
- [he exits]
- DS Charlie Nelson: He's quite the romantic, isn't he.
- Sarah Barnaby: He certainly is.
- DS Charlie Nelson: It couldn't have been easy tracking down an original copy like that.
- Sarah Barnaby: Well, he can be very resourceful.
- DS Charlie Nelson: That wasn't your song, was it?
- Sarah Barnaby: [whispers] It's not even close.
- Kate Wilding: Are you telling me you've pulled a forensic team from a live crime scene to the site of a twenty-five-year-old suicide in the hope that they might find a minute trace of gunshot residue in a room that is positively teeming with forensic material?
- DS Charlie Nelson: And if they find it more than two metres away from that chair.
- Kate Wilding: You have no chance.
- Forensic Officer: Uh, Doctor Wilding!
- Kate Wilding: [to Nelson] I hate you.
- Melody Carver: Remember I'm leaving early.
- Tom Asher: You are kidding, aren't you?
- Melody Carver: I've got my thing. I asked you yesterday and you said it was OK.
- Tom Asher: You weren't here yesterday.
- Melody Carver: No, but if I was I'd have asked you, and you'd have said it was OK?
- Sarah Barnaby: [stopping the music] This is awful.
- DCI John Barnaby: What do you mean awful? That's our song in case you've forgotten.
- Sarah Barnaby: That is *not* our song.
- DCI John Barnaby: You said it was your favourite.
- Sarah Barnaby: When?
- DCI John Barnaby: At the Fresh's Ball.
- [Sykes whines]
- DCI John Barnaby: Which I didn't go to with you.
- Sarah Barnaby: [coldly] Well, whoever you did go with, she certainly left an impression.
