- Samwell Tarly: Whilst Lord Janos was hiding with the women and children, Jon Snow was leading. Ser Alliser fought bravely, this true. When he was wounded, it was Jon who saved us. He took charge of the Wall's defense, he killed the Magnar of Thenns, he went north to deal with Mance Rayder, knowing it would've almost certainly meant his own death. Before that, he lead the mission to avenge Lord Commander Mormont. Mormont, himself, chose Jon to be his steward. He saw something in Jon and now we've all seen it to. He may be young, but he's the commander we turned to when the night was darkest.
- Lord Varys: Cersei has offered a lordship to the man who brings her your head.
- Tyrion Lannister: She ought to offer her cunt. Best part of her for the best part of me.
- Jon Snow: I swore a vow to the Night's Watch. If I don't take my own word seriously, what sort of "Lord of Winterfell" would I be?
- Lord Varys: You were quite good, you know. At ruling. During your brief tenure as Hand.
- Tyrion Lannister: I didn't rule. I was a servant.
- Lord Varys: Still, a man of talent.
- Tyrion Lannister: Managed to kill a lot of people.
- Lord Varys: Yes, but you show great promise in other areas as well.
- Lord Varys: Are we really going to spend the entire road to Volantis talking about the futility of everything?
- Tyrion Lannister: You're right. No point.
- Tyrion Lannister: [about Shae] She wanted me to leave King's Landing. She begged me. I wouldn't go.
- Lord Varys: Why?
- Tyrion Lannister: Because I liked it. Power. Even as a servant.
- Lord Varys: People follow leaders, and they will never follow us. They find us repulsive.
- Tyrion Lannister: I find us repulsive.
- [the Faceless Man reveals himself to be Jaqen H'ghar]
- Arya Stark: You said there was no Jaqen H'ghar here.
- Jaqen H'ghar: There isn't. A man is not Jaqen H'ghar.
- Arya Stark: Well, who are you, then?
- Jaqen H'ghar: No one. And that is who a girl must become.
- Cersei Lannister: Uncle Kevan, in light of your position as commander of the Lannister armies, it would please the king for you to serve as his Master of War. No man living better deserves the title.
- Kevan Lannister: That is kind of you to say. I would like to hear it from the king himself.
- Cersei Lannister: The king is very busy at this moment.
- Kevan Lannister: He should be here, learning what it means to rule.
- Cersei Lannister: He is learning. On this occasion, in his capacity as ruler, he has asked me to speak on his behalf.
- Kevan Lannister: I returned to the capital to pay my respect to my brother, and to you, and to serve the king. I did not return to the capital to serve as your puppet, to watch you stack the Small Council with sycophants. Sending your own brother away so you may...
- Cersei Lannister: My brother has left the capital to lead a sensitive diplomatic mission.
- Kevan Lannister: What mission?
- Cersei Lannister: That is not your concern as Master of War.
- Kevan Lannister: I do not recognize your authority to dictate what is and what is not my concern. You are the queen mother. Nothing more.
- Cersei Lannister: You would abandon your king in his time of need?
- Kevan Lannister: If he wants to send for me, I will be waiting for him... at Casterly Rock.
- [Grey Worm and Daario search a room]
- Grey Worm: No one here. We go.
- Daario Naharis: In a hurry? You're afraid?
- Grey Worm: Unsullied fear nothing.
- Daario Naharis: Right, and that's your problem. You understood fear once long ago, but you've forgotten what it means. Someone who's forgotten fear... has forgotten how to hide.
- [Daario stabs a hole in the wall. A man screams and falls through the wall]
- Daario Naharis: Fear is useful that way.
- Jaime Lannister: [Myrcella's necklace sent to them mounted on the neck of a serpent] It's a threat.
- Cersei Lannister: Of course it's a threat! Our daughter's alone in Dorne surrounded by people who hate our family.
- [mocking him:]
- Cersei Lannister: "It's a threat."
- Jaime Lannister: No note?
- Cersei Lannister: They blame us for the death of Oberyn and his sister and every other tragedy that's befallen their cursed country.
- [rises in fury]
- Cersei Lannister: I will burn their cities to the ground if they touch her!
- Jaime Lannister: Softer.
- Cersei Lannister: What?
- Jaime Lannister: [whispers] Not so loud.
- Cersei Lannister: Our daughter's in danger, and you're worried I'm speaking too loudly?
- Jaime Lannister: [whispers] The world can't know she's our daughter.
- Cersei Lannister: Then don't call her your daughter. You've never been a father to her.
- Jaime Lannister: If I were a father to any of my children, they'd be stoned in the street.
- Cersei Lannister: And what has your caution brought? Our oldest child murdered at his own wedding. Our only daughter shipped off to Dorne. Our baby boy set to marry that smirking whore from Highgarden!
- [Shireen teaches Gilly how to read]
- Shireen Baratheon: Come on, you know this one.
- Gilly: [looking at the letter S] It looks like an animal. Snake... Ssssnake. S. It's an S.
- Shireen Baratheon: Right, very good.
- Samwell Tarly: [reads a book] Did you know that the youngest Lord Commander in history, Osric Stark, was elected at the age of 10?
- Gilly: I know "S".
- Shireen Baratheon: You'll learn, I promise. I taught Ser Davos, and old people are terrible at learning new things.
- Gilly: Well, you're a wonderful teacher.
- [Gilly looks at Sam]
- Gilly: Very patient.
- Samwell Tarly: I only said that the more time that you spend practicing, the faster you'll be able to read.
- Gilly: That's all right. We're doing just fine. I'm sure you and... Ostrich Stark have a lot to talk about.
- [Brienne and Pod encounter Littlefinger and Sansa. Littlefinger's guards block Brienne's way]
- Brienne of Tarth: Lord Baelish. Lady Sansa. My name is Brienne of Tarth.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: We've met, with Renly Baratheon. What did he say about you? He said your loyalty came free of charge.
- [Brienne nods]
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: [smirks] Someone appears to have paid quite a bit for it since then.
- [the guards look at Littlefinger. He motions them to let Brienne approach. Brienne kneels down before Sansa]
- Brienne of Tarth: Lady Sansa. Before your mother's death, I was her sworn sword. I gave my word I will find you and protect you. I will shield your back and keep your counsel, and give my life for you if needs be. I swear it by the old gods and the new.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Please, Lady Brienne. No need for such formality.
- [Littlefinger stands, and so does Brienne]
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: You were Catelyn Stark's sworn sword?
- Brienne of Tarth: I was.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Strange. I knew Cat since the time we were children. She never mentioned you.
- Brienne of Tarth: It was after Renly's murder.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Ah, yes. You were accused of killing him.
- Brienne of Tarth: [sharply] I tried to save him.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: But you were accused.
- Brienne of Tarth: By men who did not see what happened.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: And what did happen?
- [Brienne heistates before answering, knowing full well that the explanation sounds insane]
- Brienne of Tarth: He was murdered by a shadow. A shadow with the face of Stannis Baratheon.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: [sneers] A shadow? With a face?
- [Littlefinger turns to Sansa]
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: This woman swore to protect Renly, she failed. She swore to protect your mother, she failed. Why would I want somebody with your history of failure guarding Lady Sansa?
- Brienne of Tarth: Why would YOU have any saying in her affairs?
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Because I am her uncle. I married her Aunt Lysa shortly before my beloved's untimely death. We're family now. And you are an outsider. Forgive me, Lady Brienne. But experience has made me wary of outsiders.
- Brienne of Tarth: Lady Sansa... if we can have a word alone...
- Sansa Stark: No.
- Brienne of Tarth: Please, my Lady, if I can explain...
- Sansa Stark: [interrupts] I saw you at Joffrey's wedding... bowing to the king.
- Brienne of Tarth: [shakes her head] Neither of us wanted to be there. Sometimes we don't have a choice.
- Sansa Stark: And sometimes we do.
- [pause]
- Sansa Stark: You should leave.
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: We don't want our new friend wandering the countryside alone. The roads in these parts aren't safe.
- [Brienne looks at Littlefinger disdainfully]
- Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Why don't you stay?
- [Brienne turns to Sansa. Sansa gives her an imploring look, implying that she is in danger and must leave. Brienne walks away, knocking the guards who try to stop her]
- Podrick Payne: Sansa Stark?
- Brienne of Tarth: Wary of strangers, as she should be. I saw her riding on the Eastroad with Littlefinger. We'll follow them.
- Podrick Payne: [quietly] My Lady... if both Stark girls refused your service, maybe you're released from your vow.
- Brienne of Tarth: I swore to their mother I would protect those girls.
- Podrick Payne: They don't want your protection.
- Brienne of Tarth: [sharply] You think she's safe with Littlefinger?
- Podrick Payne: [hesitates] No, my Lady.
- Brienne of Tarth: Get your horse.
