Jabot, who dreams of working for children welfare, is torn between adopting a child and being a spouse. She learns from artist and philosopher that village children, living in one room with their whole families, sometimes witness their parents having sex in the dark. They are traumatized. photographer falls in love with Jabot, she is already engaged. When her cousins wife dies, Jabot takes care of the little orphan Pa rash, who rediscovers his mother in Jabot. Jabot marries and moves away, Pa rash is heart broken. She soon discovers that she is unable to bear children, but her husbands wealthy family needs an heir. Jabot returns to her parents and to Pa rash. The photographer approaches her again, but so does her husband.
