To the Shimajiro fans and imdb staff members, as you know, I have seen Shimajiro and the Song of Whale on youtube and I enjoyed it very much, it starts off in the live action segment as a puppet show like with Muppets with the Crab puppet and flower puppets, it then shows 2 Japanese human dancers with 4 people in Shimajiro costumes. Which reminds me of Sesame Street.
After that it goes right into the 2D hand drawn animation of this film. Shimajiro the tiger boy goes to the beach and discovers a baby whale lying helpless on the beach with an injured fin. Shimajiro and Nikki the pink cat goes over to Gaogao-San the scientist lion professor and they help out the baby whale. Nikki frees the baby whale and Shimajiro, Mimirin the white rabbit, and Flappie the parrot boy chases after the baby whale in their submarine. They meet the old wise Turtle on another beach. Later on they encounter the Giant Crab who attacks Shimajiro and his friends and smashes their submarine. But they eventually defeat the giant crab and they reunite the baby whale with his mother. Shimajiro and his friends goes home to the beach and their parents and the lion policeman is waiting for them at shore and they are reunited with their families.
I like this Japanese live action and Anime film, this movie is good for families and animal rights activists or those concerned about whales. Be warned this film is in Japanese so unless you know Japanese it will be hard to follow the movie. Also to warn you, the DVD is a region 2. There is no English at all. Please make sure you get a region free DVD player or dedicate it to a Region 2 setting because there's no region 1 DVD available. I suggest you watch this on youtube but make sure to search for minute settings longer than 20 minutes so you can find it easier.
I only hope this movie gets an English dub which is highly unlikely. For now watch the Japanese version as that's all you'll get to see and it's about an hour long, I only hope this movie gets more exposure in America.
