Arguably the best episode this season.

Warning: Spoilers
10 straight seasons dealing with spirits, angels, demons and other 'supernatural' elements is no mean task and this episode, simply put, shows the reason why viewers tune into the show week after week. A top notch script that tugs at your heartstrings, stellar acting and direction makes this one of my favorite episodes of the show. It is filled to the brim with nuanced, poignant moments that draw you in, with separate story lines for Dean, Castiel and Crowley that all merge together beautifully, all staying true to the central theme. You will laugh, cry, reach for the tissues and rest assured, the end will leave you devastated.

Now for the spoiler-y bits: I knew that Demon Dean wasn't fully cured, and this episodes follows through with that sense of foreboding, as Sam steals worried looks over his brother who's.. well, stuffing his mouth full of diner fare pretending to be fine. It was also so refreshing to see Castiel together with the boys, suffering from 'mid-life crisis' as Dean puts it, and it clearly shows in the bags under his eyes and the forehead lines. There are some really wonderful moments of Castiel with his vessel's troubled daughter Claire. Her story will leave you with a broken heart. Another of my favorite scenes was the boys reminiscing about John's parenting skills. The highlight for me however, was was Mark Sheppard's Crowley and his mother, the witch Rowena. I hope Rowena gets to play a bigger role in the remaining half of this season because she is brilliant! All that being said, go watch this episode, whether you are a casual viewer or a die-hard fan. You won't be disappointed.

This use to be a horror anthology.

Towards the back end of the series there are way too many episodes dealing with melodramatic relationships among the characters. Cas trying to make peace with Claire is the focal point of this episode and while that story is engaging it is not horror. And it is not why I watch the show. This episode-like a lot of them in the later seasons-feels too much like a soap opera when the show should be about ghosts and ghouls. I think a more creative writing team could have introduced Claire in a much different way-perhaps she made a bargain to be a vessel for an angel who was also pissed at Cas?- and concept could have been folded into the show better.

A seq-way episode.

Warning: Spoilers
The Things we left behind is a seq-way episode for the second half of the season. Castiel trying to fix a wrong by trying to find a young girl. Regrettably Dean is throwing into the mix, and uses the mark of Cain. A easy to follow episode, which is well acted. The same plot device is used of fixing what's wrong with a character. Can Dean be fixed or will Dean be the evil mark of Cain? I did not mind the story. Regrettable the story is more filler to create a seq-way for the second half for season 10. One can miss this episode. The things we left behind is an okay bridge episode, but not memorable. I give the last installment a seven out of ten. Nothing special here, but watchable.

A nine for the first and last scene only a three for the rest

Season 9 and 10 built up to a great mark of cain but have not lived up to their potential almost as if the writers were too scared to make Dean bad. The Castiel / Claire story as usual sucks, who wants to see an angel in a mid life crisis and a teen tear away.....I would have tuned in to 50 other TV shows if that's what I was after. Nothing supernatural about this one and frankly I feel like the production team are using Dean and Sam to promote the two characters Castiel and Claire (or the actors even). This episode reminds me more of a teen flick rather than an adult supernatural show save for the opening and final scene which tease of what could have been.

Enjoyed it all

Crowley and Rowena storyline was good. What a fresh of breath air the character is. I always did want to see a witch more prominent in the series. I like Cass but he usually bores me to death, this however was good, Claire was a good addition. The show has this weird monster/human thing, in what world do these humans deserve to live? Tho i understand the characters themselves wanting to have that way of viewing hunting i think if someone was rap**ng someone they should not be stopped from just a few kicks.

Season 10 is Terrible, so far. Hoping for a stronger second half of the season
bmacoms116 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was not what I expected but I did like it, considering the low quality filler episodes we have been given in Season 10 - everything is relative, right? We are at 9 episodes now and I'm still asking myself when is Season 10 going to start. We have had so much filler (and bad filler, at that) that I was hoping for more insight into the MoC and what is ahead for Dean. The preview for upcoming episodes looks like there is so much to come that one has to wonder why does it take sooooooooooooooooo long to get there.

I don't think the MoC story has been advanced far enough to continue to dance around the issue. I hope the main arc for this season will be presented in the second half of the season at a more even pace for the viewer so we feel like we are watching one cohesive story and not 3 versions of the same show randomly thrown together just to have certain episodes play at a certain time for meeting a milestone. I'm hopeful that the second half of the season will pull it all together and pull me back in.

I'm also disappointed to see Crowley made a regular on the show and given the weakest story he has had in a long time and the version of hell that we see is such a non-scary place it is irritating. The demons are still not scary enough - where are the red eyes (cross roads demon in All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2). Sam and Dean used to have a healthy fear of demons, now demons are for comic relief and are treated like the zombies in the Walking Dead.......oh, another zombie, yawn, stab it in the head - not scared just another day at work

Note to Carver and Crew - You've got a lot of work to do in the second half of Season 10 because so far this is my least favorite season of the entire series. Fan Fiction was fantastic but the rest feels like a jumbled mess written by a group of people that are not working on the same show.

Decent

Started out extremely slow but in the end it was a pretty decent episode. I give it a 7. I found myself rooting against the young girl...her behavior was mostly atrocious.
