The judgement is yours and yours alone
jhudson-117043 August 2017
This episode took a step back from Matt the vigilante and focused on Matt the lawyer, which I really liked as he is a very good lawyer that seeks justice no matter where he can get it. There was still action, a new character and the introduction of the big bad, Wilson Fisk.

Starting with the focus of this episode, Nelson and Murdock defending the ultra creepy John Healy. Both of them proved themselves to be excellent attorneys that have the charisma and determination to win over a jury. I'm actually starting to like Foggy now as he really proved himself in the land of the law. The ending of Healy's story with him killing himself after revealing his employer's name was truly brutal and shocking and furthers the power that Fisk has, even by name, literally.

Speaking of Fisk, we finally got to meet him, and not just as a voice on the phone. I must say, I really liked how they showed him in his first scene as he is easily sympathetic. We first see him sorrowfully looking at a painting while also being sort of shy to the beautiful gallery owner. We already know that he is an imposing force but this made him such a likable character as it shows us his vulnerability in his first on screen appearance.

We also got introduced to a new main character, Ben Urich, a reporter for the Daily Bulletin. Urich, as well as Fisk, is immediately sympathetic as he is struggling with insurance and is being controlled by his boss by not letting his voice be heard.

I will say that this episode definitely felt like it slowed down after the first couple of episodes. While we do get important scenes and plot points that are set up, it did feel like they pumped the brakes.

+ Nelson and Murdock + Healy's battle with the man in black and his end + Unusual first scene with Fisk + Crucial new character in Urich + Foggy getting better - Slowed down since first few episodes

Final Score: 8.8/10

Law and Order

After his more extreme night out from last episode, Murdock now puts on a suit and does his day job as a lawyer. The show has a good premise for showcasing not only action carnage, but also a more cerebral investigative aspect. Charlie Cox is proved to be a great lead as he gives more range to Daredevil character with calmer yet still firm approach. He displays poise with words and suits the same way he does with black outfit and mask.

Murdock and Nelson have gotten a new client to defend in court. The pay is generous, but the assignment is presented suddenly, the suspect is dubious from the first scene and he seems to be tied with more powerful characters. Both of them understandably have conflicting ideas on how to settle the matter. Meanwhile the repercussion of Union Allied case has reached Page and a curious journalist. It seems that the show has maintained a couple of subplots aside from Murdock's vigilante effort.

This formula works well since the show has a slower pace that allows it to explore the characters more. Acting is pretty good, even for guest star Alex Morf as Healy, the accused. He looks very menacingly calm despite amidst the trail. There's also trouble brewing on antagonist side as Daredevil's actions have made quite an impact. This is shown delicately in parallel with the main focus of the trial.

Just like the two previous episodes, the action is fast and brutal. It's nice to see the series always finds an appropriate way to include the fisticuffs as integral part and not just mandatory padding. Every time the Daredevil dons the mask and brawls, there's a heavy atmosphere and far reaching consequences portrayed with excellent precision.

Words and blows carry the weight further, and they keep the pace alive for the next episode.

Right and wrong...
hiren848412 April 2015
What starts off as a strange opening, allows us to see that these "events" are happening to be part of a major plot, or rather a major player. The build up has been great and the ending was a nice (albeit brief) payoff too.

The thing I liked a lot was the theme of right and wrong in the episode and this was showcased well by nearly all the characters. This is summed up nicely by a great speech from Murdoch (you'll know when you see it!). What may be the right thing to do could prove costly, but how easy is it to live with ourselves if we choose to do the "wrong" thing.

All in all a solid episode with a great ending, which will want you to to carry on watching!

"It used to be if you killed a man you sent his wife flowers. Now they just send his wife with him."

Warning: Spoilers
The plot is mostly about Murdock defending a client John Healy (Alex Morf) who murders one of the crime bosses by bashing his head in with a bowling ball in 'self defence', to try and get closer to finding out who the crime boss is.

Meanwhile Karen Page refuses payment from Union Allied to keep her mouth shut about the death of her boss and Ben Ulrich (Vonde Curtis-Hall), who appears for the first time here is a journalist who is also trying to uncover the truth and is warned of the dangers in front of him.

This is a much slower paced episode compared to the first two episodes, but it is still an effective one because it allows for character development. I loved the whole idea of how they built up the crime boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) almost as an inhuman monster, yet his reveal and first lines with Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) showed something so frail and human. His comments about 'The Rabbit In A Snowstorm' made him feel alone. It was just a great touch to really give his character more depth. Fisk is only in the final minute of the episode yet that short scene told me so much about this character.

It also does a great job of showing Murdock's conflicted, yet ruthless defence of the clearly psychopathic client to get the name of the crime boss, the one they're all working for. Also how he juggles his business as a lawyer and his crime fighting ways as well as trying to cover up his bruises and cuts is another nice touch to this series, and keeps a continuous momentum to the show, as well as still giving it an episodic structure. Another very strong Season 1 episode.

Delicious Episode [8/10]
panagiotis199312 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Live Reaction / Review for Daredevil Season 1 Episode 3: Episode 2 was awesome, I really hope episode 3 is awesome too. That dude kills the man and then he surrenders, not much of a plan. Why do these criminals want Matt and Foggy as their lawyers? Seems shady. We get introduced to a reporter called Ben, his character seems to be interesting. Page doesn't wanna let go and that could be very very dangerous, I mean they already tried to kill her once. Damn, the fight scene towards the end was delicious. So far all the fights ive seen in the show have been great. And now Matt has a name, Wilson Fisk, hell yeah. This guy took his own life, choosing that over whatever Fisk would do to him, so brutal. And the episode ends with a scene with Fisk, nice. Overall a great episode, really enjoyed it. My rating is 8/10.

Welcome, Mr. Fisk!
Shadowboy_25cm4 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 3 is dark and grim: Matt and Foggy get a case by Mr. Wesley. The viewer knows more about the case and for whom Mr. Wesley is working and that is real suspense.

Matt is shown as a lawyer and what a good one he is.

A though case, though decissions, though, brutal tv show for matures.

Great acting.

First appearance/introduction to Mr. Wilson Fisk!

Highly recommended.

Some Fights Will Just Get You Bloody
ThomasDrufke30 April 2015
So after two brilliantly directed episodes, we got a slower and more law filled 50 minutes. I like that this show is not going with a strict superhero storyline. In other words it's nice to see our hero do something other than beat the crap out of bad guys. The episode started at ended with what is likely the two most graphic scenes of the series thus far; the bowling ball head smash, and a spike going through someone's head. I would love to see Daredevil back on the big screen, but they would have to cut back on the violence if they want it to be PG-13. But man this show is great.

The episode centered around a new client for Nelson & Murdock, John Healy. Of course, there is more to this case than led on, so it was interesting to see everything play out. It was also cool to see Daredevil's powers be shown to a fuller extent as he consistently detected which member of the jury was showing more nerves than normal. While the court chaos was happening, we saw Karen being offered money to shut her trap about the murder a few episodes back. Karen has probably been my favorite character so far as Woll has given a wide ranged performance. On one hand she can be a sweet and innocent woman, then on the other hand she has a tremendous amount of pride and conviction. As we draw closer into the meat of the story behind what's going on in Hell's kitchen, I hope we also go deeper into Karen and hopefully get closure on Daniel's murder.

Overall it was a very different episode that lacked action, but it was meant to. We did get a brief glimpse at Wilson Fisk for the first time, and hopefully more of Rosario Dawson next episode. I really like what I see so far from the man without fear.

+Karen's wide range of emotions

+Different style than the first few episodes

+Expanded abilities

-Slow build, lacked some action

Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
Continuing my marathon, another wonderful episode. I didn't remember that Ben Ulrich was so charismatic, he was very cute. The dynamic between Murdock, Foggy and Page is wonderful. We learned from this episode, kids, that if someone asks you to bowl, let them, otherwise they'll throw a strike at your head. I love the Brazilian dubbing of this series, the first time I watched it was in the original audio but the others were dubbed, but since the first time I watched it dubbed, I was always bothered by the Brazilian voice of the character Vanessa, it's very childish, it doesn't match , and it's incredible that all the other dubbed voices match the actors/actresses but in relation to Vanessa, no. I've seen several dubbings by this voice actress, and she's always wonderful, but it just didn't suit the actress. Episode three watched on March 7, 2024.

Interesting, interesting.

Warning: Spoilers
Dear god, my NWH review is going to take forever. Anyways, this was a great episode with interesting drama about a court/trial house. I have to say that the brutality in this show is bonkers. You have that guy literally smashing a bowling ball on a guy's head because and a confrontation between Daredevil & that guy who was responsible for the Bowling incident that led him committing suicide because he didn't want Kingpin nor his people hunt him down for disobeying their rules and his loved ones. That scene was tense and scary. Sorry if this is a short review, there isn't anything most importantly noteworthy. It's basically like a Law and Order episode. Speaking of the upcoming NWH review, there will definitely be a review for the Hawkeye finale sometime today.

8/10.

More legalese
Leofwine_draca11 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A different episode here, less about big action and more about plotting. Some good supporting characters including the first appearance of megamind Fisk, although the legal story takes more of a focus here. Murdock's superpowers take centre stage but are handled quite sensitively and there's a wonderfully gory highlight right at the end.
