Bad acting and a confused plot ruin something that could have been OK
cam215759 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The first of the movie wasted a ton of time introducing shallow characters without enough depth to warrant an intro. It should have given some time to a backstory or something that would have given some explanation as to what was going on because the rest of the movie never quite got around to explaining anything. There were some disturbing sequences and a few creepy moments that were pretty much just "Evil Dead" and "The Ring" ripoffs. In short- Acting= Terrible, Plot=none to speak of, FX= not terrible for the budget. I went in with low expectations and was still a little disappointed. I really wanted to like it but just couldn't get there. If you get a chance to watch for free and you have ran out of literally anything else to watch, go for it I guess. Just keep your expectations very low.

Pretty confused what was happening, though still made me sick in stomach.
MarshalGiggles24 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
At first I was pretty bored when the movie actually started, the acting made me sneer and the characters were just boring... Though my interest was sparked when that cat-eared one got pulled into the mud. Of course her acting made me cringe again.

I was pretty hungry in the beginning of the movie but when I got to the end, I was no longer hungry, but sick. The end of the movie just seemed like series of disgusting gore-y scenes, starting from the tongue-splitting with a knife and ending with different other bloody scenes.

What bothered me the most was the lack of actual screaming of pain. There was the guy who got stabbed to his hand repeatedly, the first reaction was just a gasp, followed by quite low grunts after next hits and the face was obviously faked. Normal human would do more than that.

Anyway, I got to give it 3 points for actually managing to making me sick in stomach, doesn't happen often since I'm strong-stomached.

"Pig Man, Pig Man!"
Wuchakk13 December 2019
Four girls seek to spend a weekend at a mysterious cabin in the woods in Texas when all hell breaks loose (no, seriously).

"Lake Fear" (2014), aka "Cypress Creek," starts as a potentially worthwhile low-budget cabin-in-the-woods Indie with notable opening credits, a serviceable cast of females and an outstanding metal track, but 9 minutes in it becomes clear that this is a micro-budget flick. This would be okay, but the idea of an actual script is abandoned shortly after the teens arrive at the cabin in exchange for a tedious hour of horror F/X and creepy film techniques, which are well done, but useless when there's no attempt to offer an interesting STORY. It doesn't help that the guy who plays Remington is a lousy "actor."

The flick comes across as if the cast & crew of "The Evil Dead" (1981) dropped acid, threw out the script, and just screwed around with scary visuals & gore at a remote cabin; and then tried to make it work in the editing room. It's so utterly dull that I would leave the room to go to the bathroom or get something from the kitchen without caring about pausing it (something I never do). The fact that there are currently two sequels is incredible.

The movie runs 1 hour, 21 minutes, and was shot in Dallas, Texas.

Awful!
jassiswag8 September 2015
I usually don't write reviews, but I had to make an exception for this one. The entire movie plot was basically non existent nothing made sense, at some point random events just started happening mixed with "special" effects and annoying sounds (very "special" since they were beyond terrible and will give you a headache) there was never any explanation as to why anything was happening let alone who the "creatures" were that were shown. For a great part it seems like they tried to recreate The Ring, at which they failed miserably. The acting was below average and not convincing in the least. I can't believe this was ever actually released. Awful, Just awful!! And how this movie got a rating of 6.8 will remain a mystery for me.

Couldn't spoil this film if I tried, its spoiled from the start!
orlandoorange5 August 2015
I can't even begin to tell you how bad this film is! I have just wasted nearly 80 minutes of my life and I feel like suing the distributors of this film for even agreeing to make it public! I feel sorry for the actors to be honest, they probably won't get chance to work again. Audio track is distracting at best, badly edited and annoying at worst, effects and gore are very poor quality, DVD case plot seems reasonable, in reality its boring. I only sat through it because I thought "it MUST get better", but it doesn't. Starts like a poor quality parody, and just gets worse and worse.

If this was on youtube as a college kids attempt at a horror made with friends, it would be poor. As a public released film where people are expected to pay money to watch, no, its wrong, someone should have stopped this film ever getting pressed to DVD! Seriously, its junk, buy it just to see how bad a film can be, you will want a refund!

Evil Dead meets Cabin in the Woods!
Krackoon31 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
N O T!

You guys seriously bought that? Well, I guess it could be true, if you removed Bruce Campbell/Sam Raimi from Evil Dead, and replaced everything awesome about Cabin in the Woods - then put the Crum brothers in charge (I assume they're brothers.) Imagine how much fun that would be! Okay, so it wouldn't be any fun at all. Moving on.

'Cypress Crap's' budget is nonexistent, and the sound is enough to make you cringe. The dialogue is on an entirely different level of bad. It's like the writer just did a copy and paste on random Facebook posts, and called it a day. Yes, it's THAT bad. Whatever budget they had was blown on the nice looking cast, which consists of, my best guess, four strippers looking to make it big in Hollywood. They're certainly not actresses. Now, we shouldn't be too hard on the Crum's, because even though their film is atrocious - they probably had some nice parties during filming (you lucky guys.) As for the plot - you have a group of strippers... err... I mean... friends - heading out to a cabin in the woods - a cabin that 'no one owns,' and was discovered on Youtube. Who'd pass on an opportunity like that? What could possibly go wrong? Sarcasm aside, there isn't a single redeeming quality about 'Cypress Creek.' It's an 80 minute film that made me feel as if I was viewing it in slow motion, because it never seemed to end.

Random Ramblings of a Madman: You ever wonder what 'Zombeavers' would be like without the Zombie beavers? Wonder no more. My apologies to the makers of 'Zombeavers.' I actually enjoyed that film.

Absolutely the worse movie I have seen.
guy-207613 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
There is not a single chance the positive reviews of this film are not bought and paid for. At least I have to keep telling myself that to keep from believing people actually enjoyed this film. I love horror. I love campy horror. I love cheesy horror. I have been willing to sit through a bad movie just because I was bored and the girls were gorgeous. I have excused plot-holes, unfinished narratives, poor acting, poor visual effects, poor sound and poor editing and still walked away from the experience having enjoyed it.

This movie hit all those bad points at once in a tidal wave of suck. By far the worse thing about this film is the sad attempt at scary sound effects and a creepy soundtrack. There is so much fail here the sound editor should seriously go back to delivering pizzas. From glitched dialogue to pointless effects to what appears to be an attempt at a creepy narrative track that drifts in aimlessly and leaves you befuddled as to its intent this is just a giant catastrophe. A close second is the crappy visual effects. If they can even be called effects.

Not a single enjoyable quality in this movie can be found in any single frame so please save yourself the time-waste and just watch anything else. Hell, stab yourself in the eye with a protractor point then squeeze a bushel of lemons into it since that will be eminently more pleasurable.

OK, fine, the cat girl is cute as hell.

Don't press Play on this..

TLDR: It's a right piece of sh*t is what it is..

Have you ever sat down to watch a movie, with nothing more expected than that it would at least kill an hour and a half of boredom.

But then, twenty minutes into it, you think to yourself that you'll probably be better off inspecting your feet for toe jam?

The camera-work, effects and lighting is extremely sh*t. The sound and music is f*c*ing awful. The acting is sub sh*tty. The story is beyond cr*ppy..The cover and title is the best part...

If you want to do your feet a favor, this movie will definitely help you make that happen. As for me, i quit watching the piece of sh*t after 40 minutes. Time is just too precious..

"Lake Fear" is about... ehm... stuff.
fedor86 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What a strange low-tier-budgetier this is. Starts off as a stereotypical teen flick, but then suddenly and inexplicably gets artsy. That would be like a song starting like Justin Bieber then going full dissonant harsh black metal. Sure, we've heard such nonsense combinations in the metal scene, but it almost never works. This doesn't either.

Not only is the film a stylistic jumble, it also has a completely, and I mean COMPLETELY, incomprehensible plot. As soon as the supernatural stuff starts, the movie loses whatever little story it had. If I had to do a synopsis, it would go something like this:

"Four cute teenage girls go to a remote cabin in the woods. Once there, stuff happens... You know... Stuff. They are being threatened and then possessed by... whatever."

That's the best I can do.

To illustrate how bizarrely muddled the events are, a male character shows up half-way through the movie, and there isn't an iota of an explanation where he'd come from or who he is. Nothing at all. He just shows up - in the house itself - and tries to protect himself and the blonde... from whoever/whatever. I have no clue who or what is the evil force here. It could be literally anything: witches, aliens, ghosts, hillbillies with supernatural powers, demons, you name it.

The one good thing about the movie are several effectively eerie scenes, and the cute female cast. But a movie completely devoid of a story simply isn't a completed movie. It's just a failed or perhaps even aborted attempt.

Nor do we even understand what these girls would want in a remote cabin. They have no TV there, no internet, no guys, nothing. Why are they there?

The acting is mostly horrible. The girls' reactions to the eerie going-on are way too subdued. They either have nerves of steel or they are all catatonic.

A Sick And Twisted Homage To 80's Hooror Flicks
sportsbros80813 February 2016
Stop me if you've heard this one before. Four pretty, young girls go off to an isolated campsite and some horrific things happen to them. Yeah, it sounds like a mid-80's horror flick but it's really a modern twist on that genre.

Cypress Creek starts out like any other formulaic horror film. The four main characters are introduced to the audience as they get ready for their weekend trip to a secluded cabin. Once they arrive they have to hike into the woods to reach the cabin. They come across a lake that they need to cross. It's fairly deep so they have to strip down to cross. Of course they do.

Once they get to the cabin all hell breaks loose. At this point Cypress Creek diverges for the genre in a big way. This is a low budget film to be sure but the director does an excellent job with the resources he has access to.

There are crazy camera angles, very good use of light and shadow and some creepy special effects. To say it is surreal is an understatement. It is as if Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and Quentin Tarantino got together to make a movie. Things get bloody and downright demented.

While the acting is so-so, the movie itself really delivers. Any horror fan will like this film. I am a sucker for small budget films but I can only imagine what the filmmakers could have created with a big budget.

Biggest piece of s**t that has ever come to my eyes
kabii8 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Awful isn't even enough to describe this failed piece of a movie. It shouldn't even be called a movie because it just has no beginning and no end. Even for a low budget movie it's "horrible"

First of all, the movie starts like the average teenager horror movies. You get shown the crew, 4 teenager girls, who won a travel to a cabin in the woods via YouTube. Yes that is true a cabin in the fu**ing woods. And from the time they arrive, you just don't know what's happening. I watched the entire movie and I really have no clue what the f**k is going on. This is literally just some random visual effects put in a blender and this "movie" is the outcome. I have never wasted my time before in my life as with this piece of s**t. I hope, that everyone who finds this movie through IMDb, looks at the user reviews and reads mine because I REALLY WANT that NOBODY has to watch this movie ever again! I am outta here!

What a trip
inwoodlounge9 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Satirical opening, clichéd plot devices we have seen in many other horror movies and abandoned cabin!! This movie has it all.

A couple of the performances were a bit flat, but that is okay. That is part of what made me realize that is was a movie made for the horror fan, the person that says "Oh wow, did you see that it was from...".

The lighting, and visual textures were great! The effects were total over the top gore, and while the story would be a bit hard to follow if you were learning disabled, on drugs, or didn't put your phone down to actually watch a movie, it was a both really scary and intriguing.

This is one that you can watch over and over again, and catch something new every time. Don't take this movie or yourself too seriously and you will have a great time watching it! Now I am off to buy a giant Texas belt buckle to polish!

good ideas, no direction
lennongirl1631 May 2016
Though I was very confused the majority of the time, this flick had some interesting ideas and i was impressed with the makeup and some of the effects for a low budget film. I particularly enjoyed the dance sequence and the girl's performances towards the end. I just wish i understood the "evil" a bit better. I found myself unsettled and confused which i guess does mean the movie achieved its purpose. I only wish they had spent less time at the beginning over-sexualizing the girls and more time on exposition. I did enjoy the music in this and the random guy that showed up towards the end (though i'm not sure why he was there) he added some comic relief. I would actually call this a slow-burner considering a lot of time is spent watching the girls move around and looking confused and randomly witnessing creepy events.

An insult to audience that payed money to see it.
johannes2000-119 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A rating of 5,5?! Really?!? I'm usually not someone to use big words and I like to look for the teeniest positive thing in every movie, however bad they may be, but here I stand with my back to a concrete wall: this is by far the worst attempt to a horror movie that I have seen so far!!

Where to begin? The plot is non-existent, the direction (if any) is beyond amateurish, as is the photography. The sound is terrible, the voices sound sometimes loud and echoing, sometimes muffled or like someone speaks from under water. The editing is lame, many takes where nothing happens (someone walking through a room for instance) are prolonged too the extreme. There is no acting at all, it's like the maker (I won't give him the credit of calling him director) asked some friends to walk and talk before his camera just for the fun of it (well, definitely not MY fun!). The camera is never stable, every image trembles and tilts, as if they didn't have money for a decent trolley or even a tripod. Special effects and scares? None whatsoever! They try to create a sort of The Ring atmosphere, with flashy images of supposed ghostlike persons, but you just watch it in bored disbelief in stead of fright. And what the hell was supposed to be going on there?! Never any explanation. It stays as mysterious as why these girls went to the house anyway.

In short: a total waste of our time and of their budget of 8000 dollar, as IMDb pointed out. For a movie it's nothing, I know, but still 8000 dollars too much.

disappointed
gigagoliadze16 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I decided to watch this movie because of It's rating. But this is one of the situations, when ratings lie. I've never seen the horror movie like this before. It's full of blood and villains but nothing makes sense. There are a lot of references to other horror movies like the ring for example, but everything is wrong with this one. The plot seemed typical enough to watch it, but it's so bad that i regret I spent time. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. maybe someone with psychical disorder will find the main idea of what it is about, but I think the only person that understands the purpose is the director. even the actors do not understand the whole thing i think.

Crummy
hwg1957-102-2657043 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
'Lake Fear' or 'Cypress Lake' or 'A Haunting At Cypress Creek' as my DVD cover called it is the story of four girls wearing short shorts who go out to a remote cabin and things start to happen. By the end of the film one wonders, what did happen? What was that all about? Once inside the house there is a relentless barrage of choppy editing, useless acting, shots in focus, shots out of focus (this becomes terribly irritating) and some unconvincing gore towards the end to try and breathe life into a long expired movie.

Acting-wise it was amateur, particularly when the girls were in their bloody make-up so you couldn't even tell them apart. The music score is hilariously bad and the director had obviously plundered his DVD collection for lots of the imagery. The sound effects weren't awful, mainly in the beginning, so compliments for that. Otherwise a tangled mess with no rhyme or reason.

Sad Cypress indeed.

A crap load of well....crap.
ant36au13 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say about this movie...well....not much,it really was awful.I don't believe it was bad acting that let the movie down, more a case of the movie letting the actors down. The effects were awful, the sound was horrendous, the music was worse, and the editing was the absolute worst I've ever seen, and I've seen some pretty awful movies, lets just say that Syfy channel movies and Asylum movies are a huge step up compared to this offering. The one redeeming part of this movie was the presence of the beautiful Taylor LeeAnn Graham (and I'm not into rangers),who was completely wasted talent in this crapfest. To sum it all up,stay a long, long, long way away from this rubbish, you've been warned.

Open yourself up to this one, and let the writer take you into his mind (and into yours for that matter).

If you want your usual "four teenagers go to the cabin and get slashed up" - go look elsewhere - there is plenty of that out there.

I have never seen a movie like this. A one of a kind gem. Discerning viewers only for this one.

Really confusing if fun possession effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder25 June 2017
Heading out into the wilderness, a group of friends visiting an abandoned cabin in the woods find that the area holds a slew of possessed bodies inside and their presence has freed the demons into the group forcing the ones left to fight off the deadly beings to escape alive.

This one was a decent if slightly problematic entry. When this one works, it's due to the rather enjoyable setup throughout the first half of the film to just dive straight into the plot without much hesitation. It doesn't take long for the group to suddenly start getting to the unleashed beings which is where the fun starts here as this one is pretty much non-stop from the start. The discovery of the doll and the unleashed terror that comes from that are pretty chilling, and the scenes down in the basement where the demonic figures begin toying with the trapped group come off really nicely as the concept behind these scenes is rather terrifying with the alternate portal being opened with the flashing light and distorted sounds constantly appearing throughout here. Since the group is constantly fighting off the different beings and possessed bodies being thrown their way, the action is rather constant here and the encounters only get more frantic and intense with the possessed continuously getting involved here in some incredibly trippy and distorted scenes featuring all sorts of demonic beings being present. Even the final confrontations are a lot of fun, and given that these basically bring about an endless slew of bloodletting and gory creature effects it does come off really nice overall. While these make this one a lot of fun, it does have a few issues here. One of the main ones is the fact that there's just not a whole lot of explanation for anything that goes on, making the scenes in here incredibly confusing more than scary. There's really little about the extended sequence of the demon coming through the TV set in the basement for minutes on end where all we see is distorted images of inhuman feet or legs while bestial growling plays during the whole sequence which registers because it's impossible to make out what's going on, and that this is a common occurrence throughout the film is a big drawback. Nothing really seems to happen for a reason here and the overall confusing nature of this one just makes for a really painful time trying to make sense of what's going on, from the nature of the possession to the need for the time-traveler being thrown into the mix as well. Likewise, the film's really low-budget does end up harming this one with the distorted voices being indecipherable, regular speaking voices being way too low to be heard properly and way too many dark scenes being blobs of pixels on-screen which makes it hard to tell the nature of the sequence. These here are what really hold this back.

Rated R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

Different and Interesting
lnifan20002 January 2016
It is hard to describe this movie. Something of a cross between a David Lynch flick and the first Evil Dead movie. The creators should be commended because they did a lot with an obviously small budget.Still, this homage to the Evil Dead franchise had some really interesting visuals. The movie creates an atmosphere of a really bad drug experience that one would have if something was slipped in their drink at a frat party. The movie becomes a demonic nightmare that after awhile the viewer begins to lose perspective between time, space, and reality. As far as the bad part the writing was weak which is a minus and the audio was poor. Sometimes it was hard to understand what the characters were saying and I wish things would have been explained more about the history of the house. I would like to see a part two of this but with a bigger budget. All of the girls were very attractive and I liked that they really got in their roles. Things got a little messy at times with blood and gore and I know the actors had to deal with a lot of discomfort to even make some of these scenes. Bottom line I would say give this a watch because it is really a unique kind of flick and I do look forward to what this crew will do in the future with a bigger budget. Thanks guys for giving me a good movie watching experience!

Seizure Material
enarth-7424825 August 2020
I don´t think words can completely express how bad this movie is, it tries to be a mash up between cabin fever and the ring, and it fails miserably, the acting goes beyond bad, with cheesy lines and fortuitous gore, who ever believes splattering the screen with blood and attacking the spectator with lighting needs to be taught better. "Seizure Material" seems to be the best description for this piece of garbage.
