Fun with Dick and Valerie
gee-1524 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How do you get your kids home for the holidays? Tell them you and your mother are getting divorced and send them into a tizzy! It's fun to see Dick Van Dyke and the late great Valerie Harper together albeit briefly. Dick Van Dyke (at his most mischievous) plays a little joke on his two self absorbed children to get them home for Christmas. Matthew Modine is also funny as he desperately tries to connect with China to speak to his sister (a weepy Glenn Headley). Based on some old joke that I had never heard of,In the end, it's a sprightly short film about what your parents REALLY want for Christmas.

The cast is so impressive ( and the acting so charming ) than the story matters in not great measure. The call of a father to his so workholic son, the ball of panick and reaction of son, the call to his sister, the call of her to the old man and the beautiful confirmation of what you hope and, sure, expect.

A joke, so old but, in this context, lovely in profound sendse.

So, delightful sounds just fair as definition of this small gem.

And, sure, the work of Bonam and Matthew Modine, the magnificent work of Dyck Van Dyke, valerie Harper and Gleanne headley, the reaction of son to the news and the revelation of trick are just precious.

In my case, that kind of film refreshing in perfect manner after a tough work day..
