Exploring Ezra
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic10 October 2020
This is a solid episode in building the story of Ezra. It is also a solid episode as entertainment. We get some fun action and some small seeds of background story for Ezra.

Rebels by this stage had not yet reached the fantastic levels that a lot of Clone Wars reached in terms of story and has a more basic stylised animation at this point. It wasn't moving into the darker, more serious storytelling that appeals more to adult viewers like me. But there are already signs of some depth and it is building towards stronger storylines that were to come.

This is good fun.

My rating: 8/10.

Massive Improvements!

Warning: Spoilers
Star Wars Rebels is definitely improving by far and is moving up to the Clone Wars standard with every episode. Both Spark of Rebellion and Fighter Flight were terribly mediocre episodes in my opinion, but Rise of the Old Masters kept me going, and it's actually improved no end!

Ezra finally gets some great character development in this first of two-parts episodes, with the first notion towards his back story around his parents and such. The Empire, for once, seemed formidable in this episode, with the appearance of the Sith Inquisitor a great surprise! Also, there are some superb nods to previous story lines in the Clone Wars and the movies.

On the downside, there's still some unnecessary slapstick, and Lothal is starting to become a boring planet. It's time to take a look at different planets now just to make references to those brilliant places the movies and series have visited in the past, such as Coruscant, Tatooine, Hoth and many, many others!

Overall, however, some great improvements for the series and ones that will keep improving!

Empire Day

This is the first episode in a while that I felt like actually added a lot of story to the narrative. A lot of the previous episodes have been setting up the characters, and I have loved that, but it was nice to have a change of pace and get a little bit more storytelling involved again. While not being the best episode, this did have the best showcase of what these rebels are actually capable of. It planted the seeds for what would become the bigger rebellion exceptionally well, and the task that they had felt nostalgic. I missed a little bit more from the Inquisitor. He didn't have that same sense of danger to him that he had the last time we saw him, and I think that might have been because the episode is a two-part story. I like the direction that this series is headed in, and this gave a little bit more depth to Ezra and his connection and hatred for the Empire. I also like the little addition of this celebration that they have. It is very self-centered and felt like a total Empire thing to do. I liked this episode more than some of the previous and I hope that they will continue with a few of these more story-based episodes.

Empire Day

Pretty fun episode. I prefer the ones like this that actually contribute something to the main characters. Filler episodes are fine, but had I been waiting a week for each episode, I may have lost interest at some point earlier on. It makes for a fine binge though.
