Just another day at the office

Once again, I really must commend the writing and direction in this show. Not only for the great pacing and furthering of the story but also that Joe Russo was the director. He also co-directed The Winter Soldier and Civil War but also had great work in TV like Arrested Development and Community.

This episode helped to expand the dynamic between Carter and Jarvis as more than just a heroine and her sidekick but more as partners in espionage. Jarvis proved very useful for Carter, disabling a truck, stitching her wounds and giving advice. While Carter still sees him as Stark's butler, it is becoming more apparent that she is liking him and relying on him more and more.

Even with the other side characters, the story is progressing and getting better. The agents are still on their own case, catching up with Carter and I loved the interaction between Sousa and Carter as a sort of flirting that is sweet and playful while still sort of fine in the workplace.

I did like the added part with the radio show that kind of mirrored this episode's story and plays into entertainment at the time as radio shows were very popular. I did like that it was Captain America's exploits against the Nazis and that they changed the facts to appeal to fans but I still felt that they were over doing it with the sexism in the 40s but not to too much of an extent in the first episode.

I enjoyed the dialogue in this episode, and actually in the last one too, where it feels natural and still sounds era appropriate. The cliffhanger that the episode ended on was good too, as the SSR is closing in on Stark and could be getting to the truth, as much as Carter is.

+ Writing, pacing and Russo's direction + Carter dynamic with Jarvis/Sousa + Era appropriate dialogue and entertainment - Still a bit too much focus on sexism but did lighten up from last episode

Final Score: 8.9

Leviathan

In typical Marvel form they leave us off with a cliffhanger at the end of episode 1 to get us more excited for the next episode. Luckily this time around they aired both of them back to back to create a full 2 hour movie like story. While this episode touched on some of the same notes as the first, there was a much darker feel to this one. And we also got a bigger sense as to who this Leviathan character really is.

Jarvis, who is in human form at this point in the universe, turns out to be a much bigger part of the show than we previously thought. He is pretty much the Diggle of this show but also has something else going on behind our backs. Perhaps it was too early to get attached to his character but I wonder what his and Starks intentions really are. I don't think Peggy is one to be bullied around so it's likely either she already knows or is bound to find out sooner or later that she seems to be a pawn.

Her and Jarvis' journey to find more about what was being stolen from Stark became more explosive this time. Joe Russo, director of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, helmed this second episode. Which is probably why the action looks so good. But it was also well written with a lot of familiar spy elements. It's funny how little respect Carter has around the office but how every time she is a few steps ahead of the rest of the crew. It may not be possible but wouldn't we all love to see her and Black Widow have some sort of team up? So through two episodes Agent Carter has my attention. It's 40's style dialogue and strong lead characters give this a unique feel to the superhero genre.

+Jarvis and Carter combo

+Russo's direction

+Leaves us with questions for the future

-Rehashed villain material

"You're very fortunate that I ignored your instructions."

Agent Carter continues her investigations into the deadly weapons stolen from Howard Stark. Her latest lead is a milk truck that may be filed with explosives. Once again, Agent Carter will have to fight the baddies while staying one step ahead of her male co-workers.

Bridge and Tunnel is a wonderful episode. Compared with the first episode, it features a lot more action, a lot more fighting, a lot more story, a lot more Jarvis, and . . . well, a lot more of everything. I'm sure most would agree with me, but the highlight has to be watching Agent Carter in an incredible fight atop a moving milk truck. It's good stuff!

There's a lot to like in this series, but it's hard not be impressed with the look. Everything has an amazing vintage feel to it. There are bits that you'd swear are true 1940s-era relics. Sets, costuming, and props all help to add an air of authenticity to the show. And I especially like the way it's lit. The sepia-like tone works.

Looking forward to episode 3.

Completely in the dark

Sort of uninteresting episode 2, with some actions, fillers and a weak flow. It's still developing and the next episodes would hopefully clarify things up.
