Following the release of “See You Next Summer,” Brian Kelley released another farewell track on Wednesday, this time with a far more bitter tune: “Kiss My Boots.”
The song, part of his upcoming sophomore album, Tennessee Truth, has some fans musing if the new track is a dig at Tyler Hubbard, the Georgia half of former country music duo Florida George Line. “Want the world to know that you did me wrong/I don’t know how you act sweet, after how you did me,” sings Kelley. “Here’s a...

Horrors on the high sea are a common enough theme, from Ghost Ship and Deathship to The Haunting of the Mary Celeste and Titanic 666 there are plenty of them. The most recent of these, The Haunting of the Queen Mary opens on Halloween Eve,1938 when the ship’s festivities are replaced with terror as an axe-wielding man hacks his way through its corridors.
The plot then circles back a few hours to show Gwen and David Ratch sneaking into an exclusive party in an attempt to get their daughter Jackie introduced to some Hollywood stars who they hope can help her become the next Shirley Temple.

Ricardo Bermúdez remembers his father, with whom he didn't have the closest relationship with, leaving behind tapes of car racing compilations the few times he deigned to visit. This wasn't unusual because his father worked with cars, so little Ricardo would often sit down and watch the tapes out of curiosity and to pass the time. It was here, via the video's rollicking soundtrack, that he discovered artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Dmx, and others. Bermúdez was already a fan of reggaetón, as are most kids who grow up in Puerto Rico. But American hip-hop began to captivate him just as much. Years later, that mix of influences would eventually trace his arc towards new musical ambitions and a new moniker most people now know him by today: Tommy Blanco.
These days Blanco is part of a rapidly growing crop of Latin trap stars that have been slowly making themselves heard in Puerto Rico's music scene,...

“The Muppets Mayhem,” the first streaming series devoted to Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the most iconic band in the Muppet universe, is finally here. All episodes are streaming on Disney+ right now and, appropriately, they rock. And TheWrap spoke to the Muppet-y stars of the show, which you can watch above.
When TheWrap asked the Electric Mayhem what other bands could benefit by having their singular energy on tour, we got some surprising answers. “I think that Animal could sit in with any band,” Floyd proclaimed, while Animal chimed in: “Harry! Harry!” Janice said that, “Taylor Swift and I would have a totally amazing time together,” which we imagine would be true. And Dr. Teeth noted that, “I’d posolutely love to accompany The Weeknd.” Can you imagine?

Frank Ocean made his long-awaited return to the stage on Sunday with a headlining appearance at Coachella 2023.
Things got off to a rather inauspicious start for the much anticipated performance. For those hoping to watch at home, Ocean was pulled from the YouTube livestream just three hours before his scheduled set time. For those on the ground, there was the disappointment of no Ocean products being offered at the merch tent, and the lengthy delay as his set didn’t start until an hour past the scheduled start time.
When Ocean did finally take the stage, it was in a rather modest fashion, facing away from the audience and towards his band. He chose to remain more controlled and insular, frequently removing himself from the stage and his own songs. His performance set up — an equipment-laden mock studio backdrop featuring a line of dancers doing pedestrian choreography while a full-stage...

Florida Man series creator Donald Todd says his new Netflix show asks how “Florida Man” became a thing. “[People] laugh at the mug shots and the headlines,” said Todd, “but what’s the story behind the meme?”
Speaking with Netflix’s Tudum, creator/showrunner and executive producer Todd talked about why he’s fascinated by Florida Man memes.
“As I grew up, I never stopped thinking about why Florida is Florida,” said Todd. “Florida is a thin layer of porous crust on top of a hundred feet of water, and it’s maybe a few feet above sea level… it might all sink. So when you feel that everything is temporary, you take what you can when you can get it. A ‘Florida man’ is someone who’s proudly independent and doesn’t live by your code, which means he doesn’t live by any code.”

The term “Florida man” comes from a meme. The joke is that all the unbelievable news headlines that come out of the Sunshine State are all the work of one man, Florida Man, “the world’s worst superhero.” As any Floridian (or ex-Floridian) will tell you, Florida is a special place. Nowhere else in America has the specific combination of traits – warm weather, easily navigable ports, favorable tax laws – that creates the conditions for lunacy to flourish.

Florida man, Florida man, does whatever a Florida man can... Newsrooms around the world have a fondness for any headline that begins with "Florida Man," because it's almost guaranteed to be a ridiculous story. While some have argued that the sheer amount of insanity out of Florida has more to do with the state's lax laws regarding crime reporting, it's also just possible that Florida is a really weird place, like Narnia with retirees, assault rifles, and lots of sunblock.
A new limited series will follow one such "Florida man," an ex-cop named Mike Valentine (played by Edgar Ramírez), who is a born-and-raised Floridian reluctant to return to his home state. However, he's forced to go back to the sunshine state for a job trying to find a Philadelphia mobster's runaway girlfriend (Abbey Lee). All four of the actors from Disney’s smash-hit, Oscar-winning film “Frozen” are now officially Disney Legends. And at their ceremony at D23 on Friday morning, none of them could “let it go.” Kristen Bell apologized for destroying a generation of parents’ eardrums, while Josh Gad joked about adding “Disney Legend” to his driver’s license. And Idina Menzel belted out a brief snippet of “When You Wish Upon a Star.”
Jonathan Groff, who plays Kristoff in the films, took the opportunity to bring up how Disney and “Frozen” allowed him to embrace his identity.
“As a young gay boy growing up in the late-’80s/early ’90s, Disney VHS tapes were my primary source of escape and self-expression,” Groff said, adding that as a child he dressed up as everyone from Peter Pan to Mary Poppins. “My Mennonite grandparents called me ‘Mary,’ without a hint of irony.”

Updated, Friday, 12:33 Pm Pt: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Friday that strips Disney of a special district that covers Walt Disney World, after the company came out publicly against the state’s parental rights law.
It’s unclear what the ultimate financial impact will be on Disney, but Democrats have warned that dissolving the Reedy Creek Improvement District could leave Florida’s Orange or Osceola counties to pay the district’s existing debts.
DeSantis, standing at a lectern with the message “Freedom from Indoctrination,” accused Disney of pushing an LGBTQ agenda. DeSantis claimed the company had an “intentional agenda” to “inject sexuality into the programming that is provided to our youngest kids.”
He was clear that was the reason that he was repealing the special district.
“I’m just not comfortable having that type of agenda get special treatment in my state,” he said. “I just can’t do it.

Editors note: Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series debuts and celebrates the scripts of films that will be factors in this year’s movie awards race.
Filmmaker Sean Baker (The Florida Project) had an unexpected inspiration for his latest film Red Rocket, which centers on fast-talking, washed-up porn star Mikey Saber (Simon Rex) who, having exhausted his options and goodwill in Los Angeles, returns to his Texas hometown where he quickly exerts his charming con artist patter to bend the locals, including his ex-wife, to his self-indulgent will.
Baker said the revelation that sparked the film came out of research he and co-screenwriter Chris Bergoch did for a previous project, Starlet, which was also set in the porn industry.
“Getting to know people within that industry, we realized there was this archetype, because we met a handful of men like Mikey Saber – and they even had a term applied to them within the industry,...

The heroine of Zola – the unique, Twitter-chain inspired film about a hastily arranged raunchy road trip – was drawn in part from The Wizard of Oz, director Janicza Bravo said during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Film: New York event Saturday. The pic is about a girl who craves adventure, leaves a boring pale life “and is transported into this deeply saturated world, and by the end has made three enemies.”
The film, which debuted at Sundance in 2020, centers on the dynamic between Zola (newcomer Taylour Paige) and Stefani (Riley Keough). It is based on a 2015 Twitter thread by A’ziah King, who was then a 20-year-old Hooters waitress. She wrote about her chance encounter with a stripper and the resulting two-day Florida road-trip bacchanal involving prostitution, murder and a violent pimp known simply as Z. Nicholas Braun, Ari’el Stachel and Colman Domingo also star.

Well, that got complicated fast. After two action-heavy instalments bracketed by exhilarating ‘Brace! Brace! Brace!’ emergencies, episode three switched gears for some old-fashioned gumshoeing that left us with a truckload of information and new characters. If anyone felt like requesting a paracetamol from the medical officer after that one, you’re not alone. Best check it for tampering first though, eh? Wouldn’t want to end up like Burke – in a body bag, being slid in and out of a torpedo tube every two minutes like a human swanee whistle.
Silva was right; Burke was poisoned. And the chief suspect for his murder is currently… Chief Petty Officer Glover, aka the Coxswain with the dragon tattoo. Experienced crime drama viewers knew that Shaun Evans’ character was entirely too inoffensive and omnipresent not to be suss. He’s lurked fuzzily in the background of every scene since the start,...

On Monday’s episode of “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert kicked things off with a gag that imagined what it would have been like if the right-wing antivaxxers bedeviling Covid-19 vaccination efforts had been around when the polio vaccines were rolled out in the 1950s. The results are exactly what you think.
The gag was inspired by a comment Dr. Anthony Fauci recently made about the disinformation surrounding Covid-19 vaccines. He said, “We probably would still have polio in this country if we had the kind of false information that’s being spread now.”
So that’s the thing “The Late Show” imagined. The clip, which played as Monday’s cold open, began with news footage summing up the situation. Then came the gag itself: a fake 1940s-50s newsreel similar to the current events clips that used to play before movies in the decades before TV news programs made them obsolete.

Today’s grid also includes Ildiko Enyedi’s ’The Story Of My Wife’.
Jacques Audiard’s Paris, 13th District and Sean Baker’s Red Rocket achieved middling scores on Screen‘s Cannes jury grid, whilst Ildiko Enyedi’s The Story Of My Wife failed to impress the majority of our jurors.
The latest film from Jacques Audiard – a Palme d’Or winner in 2015 with Dheepan – came out on top of the new arrivals with a score of 2.5, placing it fifth on the grid - just behind Asghar Farhadi’s A Hero. Helping the average were scores of four (excellent) from...

If Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz was already “not feeling very comfortable,” that feeling of discomfort can only have increased exponentially Thursday with confirmation that Joel Greenberg’s plea has officially been accepted by a judge.
Greenberg, the former Seminole County tax collector, reportedly first connected with Gaetz in 2017, the year he took office, through a network of Florida Trump supporters. According to the Washington Post, Gaetz bragged about the women he met through Greenberg, and went so far as to show them “videos on his phone of naked or topless women on multiple occasions,...

It makes a certain kind of sense that Bad Trip, Eric André’s entry into the Gonzo Comedy Hall of Fame (see: Jackass, Borat, Bad Grandpa), starts in Florida. Not that the other 49 states of this fine U.S. of A. don’t have their share of goofballs, chowderheads, numbskulls, fuck-ups and jag-offs; it’s just that this particular Southeastern one has a reputation for American eccentricity that results in eyes bugging out, jaws dropping and shit going very wrong. Those “Florida Man” headlines are well-earned.
And the “Florida Man...

Book-to-film adaptation is a complex, and often misunderstood, art form. On the surface, it might seem like making a movie based on a story that already exists is somehow easier than starting from scratch. But taking someone else’s work of art, which already stands on its own, and making it into something new is a daunting task. For those who are up for the challenge though, it can also be exhilarating. In addition to cinematography, music, acting, and production design, filmmakers get to use text itself as a tool for expression when working on an adaptation. They have to respect the spirit of the original work (or make a very conscious choice...
