Will Definitely Miss
czqueen22 February 2015
This whole series has been a masterpiece since Day 1. Have enjoyed all the episodes and this last season was definitely the best. This was by far the best finale that could ever be written, and all the shows leading up to this were miraculously written and pretty much flawless. This great ending with Lisbon and Patrick finally getting married, just made the whole series much more special. I was so worried about the finale not ending on a positive note but this surpassed all my expectations. There was not one bad actor on the show. Simon Baker made the show but his cast mates made him even look better. All the stories were great and even the Red John story line was well written. I do wish Wiley could have ended up with Vega. I am hoping to see these actors in different series, as all were exceptional. I will miss not seeing them every week. Thank you to all the writers for keeping us interested to the very end.

One of the most satisfying Finales I have ever seen
Dariush7219 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This two part Finale delivered more emotion to me that any other show, I hadn't have felt this amount satisfaction and happiness for a fictional character in a show

Simon Baker must be given a Golden Globe for the final scene, his face delivered the emotional pulse perfectly

Bruno Heller should applauded for not ruining this finale by making it "Dramatic" (so called), he went with the flow and give everyone what they wanted and that was seeing, "feeling" Patrick Jane's redemption and Happiness

I'm going to miss this show

Highly satisfying
neil-4761 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Preparations for the forthcoming wedding of Mentalist Patrick Jane and longtime CBI and FBI colleague (and boss) Teresa Lisbon are progressing , albeit the scale of something intended to be intimate and private is getting out of hand. Meanwhile, serial killer Keller did not die in the explosion at the end of the previous episode, and has a serious grudge against Jane. In fact, he would like nothing better than to exact revenge at the wedding...

The 151st and final episode of this series does the same thing as many of its predecessors by balancing humour with suspense: in this case the humour derives from the wedding expanding out of control beyond what Lisbon and Jane wanted, to Lisbon's obvious frustration, and the ever-increasing threat of the loopy (and angry) Keller. This plays out in a most satisfying fashion, with a payoff which demonstrates all that has been best about this series.

The most disturbing part of this send-off is seeing smiles on the faces of Tim Kang and Robin Tunney, replacing the expressions of complete deadpan and dyspeptic disbelief respectively, which we have become so used to. Good to see, as was the return of Amanda Righetti and Owen Yeomain for the wedding.

And best of all was seeing the two main characters get the happy ending they deserved.

One of the most delightful and enjoyable endings in TV
mjt_198916 November 2018
The story here is a story of ultimate redemption, told and performed in a terrific way. Coming to light after facing so much darkness, Patrick Jane found what he had lost. No better ending.

Extremely Satisfying Series Finale
janedoe3319 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is easily one of the most satisfying finales to a show that I have ever seen. I don't think I have ever seen two characters deserve a happy ending more than Jane and Lisbon, they have been through so much in their lives, especially Jane. Excellent acting from all throughout the entire series and this episode was no exception. I have loved this show from the very first episode and it's going to be so tough to say goodbye, but this episode makes it a lot easier. The ending scene was one of the best scenes of the entire series, and I definitely got a little choked up. Thank you Simon Baker and Robin Tunney, they brought their characters to life in a way that few actors are capable, they are both outstanding actors, and their chemistry throughout the entire series was truly something special.

The series was so so good. And it was a wonderful journey with CBI first, then the FBI. I love it all. Good Bye, Patrick.

Season 7 it's bonus season for the mentalist fans
darmastuti26 September 2020
I am big fans of the Mentalist. In my personal opinion, the Mentalist is still the best crime drama series untill now. But, I am little bit disappointed, season 7 it's like bonus for us, the Mentalist fans, specially jisbon fans. I loved jane and lisbon finally end up together. Simon Baker and Robin Tunney really did a great job in season 7, their chemistry well played, their doesn't have to make sex scene, the way their looking at each other it's really shown their were in love..

Great Show!
aaaaaron-frannnnnnnn25 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Would give it a 10/10, but it was slightly rushed. Too many shows fill the last episode up with too much "stuff". But what we want is a small amount of "stuff", then a good 10 or 15 minutes of Jane and Lisbon traveling, solving things together, Lisbon rolling her eyes at Jane doing Magic. So hence, a 9/10 for the slight "rushed" conclusion.

Fantastic
kiragrandad11 October 2022
I've just finished watching all seven seasons again for the second time and I think I will be watching them again very soon. I enjoyed the Red John stories which kept me guessing right till the very end and I enjoyed they following series just as much. I think it was a fantastic piece of work for all involved and would love to see something on par with The Mentalist again on our tv screens. I would love to see Patrick Jane and his wife etc coming back in a follow up series which I know will never happen but here's hoping. Lol. Such a we'll written piece of work with ace directing an such a fantastic cast in front of the camera.

Just loved it :)

Warning: Spoilers
While Serial Killer Joe Keller ist supposed to be dead, Jane and Lisbon are planning their wedding which is getting out of hand. Meanwhile Keller plots to kill Jane. The Episode ends with Keller been caught and Jane and Lisbon celebrating their marriage, Jane learning that Lisbon is pregnant.

I have to say I just loved it, not only this episode, all of them, even though we had to accept some changes since season 6 and had to deal with some flaws.

Yes, the RD solution was a bit disappointing and the leaving of Rigsby and Van Pelt very sad. Also there were sometimes lines where the writers obviously forgot what happend in previous episodes but altogether the series never lost its flow.

I liked Abott aka Rockmund "C-Note" Dunbar and the growing friendship between him and Jane. I was really fond of him being this amicable character rather than aggressive and over-bossy. It doesn´t have to be hostile all the time. I found Wylie funny and suitable for the Team.

The whole casting was superb. They all fitted together perfectly and had a great chemistry, especially Jane and Lisbon. I always was a Jisbon shipper and I don´t think it came all of a sudden. He tells her things he told noone else (like him being in an asylum). She backs him up no matter how much he gets into mischief. She was frantic when he nearly drowned and jealous when he met Lorelei. There never was this obvious sexual tension but always a deep affection, admiration and a bond of love between them.

All those little things, here a dance, there a lifting of Lisbons arm to glance on her watch, the constant teasing, him pulling her hair out of her blazer after helping her in and her keeping the pieces of his broken cup over more than 2 years. They learned to appreciate and admire each other without realising how much they need each other.

Is is just so wonderfully played by Simon and Robin, how they look at each other, how she wipes his lip after she kisses him, how he tells her he loves her, it´s like you can see in his soul. They´re really great actors who bring these characters to life. But they all are. Wonderfully written complex real characters, excellent actors.

It´s the great happy ending they deserved and we also.

Like Patrick would say: Bravo !

Seasons 1-5 great, seasons 6-7 are mediocre
Jim-Eadon16 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Season 7 was a failure, I will explain why soon. Seasons 1-5 got the formula right. The show had real charm and was driven by the compelling whodunnit serial killer story arc. If the producers were worried that the charm and formula was running out of steam, then they should have made a well-written season 6 as the final season based broadly on the same formula and characters. The trouble started early in Season 6. The first third started off OK but ended in episode 8 with an extraordinarily lame resolution to the Red-John mystery. I kept hoping that the real Red John was still out there, but, Oh well. Without that story arc, the show was left with charm. Much of that charm was provided by the lovely Grace and Rigsby who provided laughs as the straight clown, if that makes sense. Season 6 then fired these two pleasant characters and replaced them with characters that were sensible and boring. The first working-for-the-FBI episode was fine, but then they killed the tension. The formula became: the FBI willingly let Patrick do what he likes, with impunity. The problem with that is, the whole point of The Mentalist was that Patrick was fooling and deceiving the System, with disastrous results to him if anything went wrong. Season 6 abandoned that, and then the show just became an average detective show. This was exacerbated with Patrick running out of new tricks to show off. Then we had the Patrick-Lisbon relationship turn into a will-she or won't-she leave Mr Nice for Patrick soap opera. In Season 7 the soap opera got even worse, with the two main characters as boyfriend girlfriend. The show got rid of Fischer, who was redundant as a younger, more corporate-grey version of Lisbon. It replaced her with two rookies, both were young and both were supposed to be funny and endearing. The problem is, they were not funny and they were more annoying than endearing. So when (SPOILERS) Vegas got murdered the show laid on the sad music fuelled, melodramatic mourning scenes I rolled my eyes, wondering how much worse the show could get. The show finished with a suspense-free red john-lite serial killer plot and a wedding. Horrible. I don't think I much liked any of the characters in season 7. I didn't dislike them, but I didn't like them. Patrick had lost his youthful lovable rogue persona and had taken up a world-weary wise detective role. He played a guy who bent the rules but this time he was hired to do just that, with the full blessing of his managers. He wasn't being naughty any more, he was just another tec. The character used to be fun, and full of life, but here he comes over as bored. It's as if the actor knows that the show is a becoming a disaster and his heart is not in it any more. Lisbon lost the chemistry she used to have with Patrick. The two character's chemistry was based on lust, on the forbidden fruit factor, not on romantic love. Lisbon looked even more uncomfortable than Patrick. Perhaps part of the problem was that Patrick and Lisbon were looking to old towards the end of the show? They seemed to have both aged about 15 years. The FBI boss (I can't even remember his name) should never have been scripted as being friendly, sensible and approachable. He should have been a hostile character, to create some badly-needed tension and fun. Cho failed to have any chemistry with his rookie partners, who seemed inexplicably keen to be bored to death by him. His character was a monosyllabic robot, though he was occasionally amusing due to being so laconic. It is unsurprising that both House and The Mentalist both went awry when they had the male and female leads fall in lurve. Tis a mistake to dissolve the sexual tension and replace it with sloppy soap.

A lovely ending to such a peaceful show
nuhahamada19 June 2023
I don't know how to describe this, but this show is really peaceful and calming, it was like medicine, a crime show usually gives me a headache or depression, even though this one went to many dark places, kept me on edge making me want more, it felt like a " safe place " , a comfort zone if you may say . It was always nice to know that I have more to watch thus why I never finished the show until now, it's like saying goodbye, and I really hate to say goodbye to something I considered to be an "escape zone", last episode was fun, good closure, really glad they didn't go out of their way and destroy Jane's happiness, that would've killed my love for this show, I'll really miss it!

Series finale
notar0b0t25 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm amazed. That's how you make a series finale. Hats off to the writers and everyone involved. Not many shows can boast about having such a great ultimate episode. I guess, if I had to point one flaw to season 6 and 7, it's that Patrick's Citroën DS never appears again nor is it mentioned again. Its last appearance is in 6x6.

I won't repeat what the positive reviews already talked about, but I had to leave a review to say how much I loved it. It seems 7x10 was just a fluke, and I'm glad it was.

I especially love how they waited until the end of the episode to have Teresa reveal she's pregnant. I love that this didn't take center stage like it so often does in other shows. Kudos for that.

Truly a unique show. One of the greats.

I'm a Big Fan and I Will Miss the Team
PartialMovieViewer6 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Its early 2020 and I just finished binging 'The Mentalist.' When this show first appeared on my TV, I really enjoyed it, sadly, travel forced me to miss many shows. Even with all of my absentees, I felt that the program at least earned a 'short and sweet' review. My time on-the-road increased and eventually I lost track of where I was in the story. When I would come home, my wife would provide me with a strategic briefing on the saga and I would try to catch-up as best as I could. Even though I missed a lot, I managed to watch some key episodes. One day I came home from a long trip, I sat down and turned on the tube and The Mentalist was just gone. Jumping forward to now, after binging, I realize that there were no such things as a few 'key episodes' - they are all 'key episodes.' I so miss Cho, Lisbon, Jane and the rest. I think the lines from Joni Mitchell's, "Big Yellow Taxi", "Don't it always go to show; you never know what you got till it's gone" accurately emotes my feelings about The Mentalist's departure. Bruce Heeler did an outstanding job crafting this tale. There was always a weekly mystery to be solved, but Red John never dodged the team's crosshairs. Before I go on about the actors I have to say casting did a spectacular job. Along with the leads, I miss the entire entourage - they were kind of like some distant family members or some really smart and friendly pets. From Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti to J.J. LaRoche and Vega to Wylie and Abbott I felt they were all important to the show. For me, this is a rarity - since I feel this is quality Hollywood. Superb plot, great acting and directing and staying with the story. As much as I would have loved to see this show continue, the smartest thing to do was end it when they did. Having a show linger is the worst thing a studio can do. With that being said, if they do decide to revisit 'The Mentalist' - with the same cast, and no PC poison - I'll watch it.

Redemption and Happiness
claudio_carvalho4 February 2022
After escaping from Joe Keller, Patrick Jane proposes Lisbon that says yes. Abbott offer his home to the wedding and Patrick and Lisbon plan the party and the list of guests. However, they do not know that Joe Keller also survived the explosion and now is hunting down Patrick seeking revenge.

"White Orchids" is a delightful conclusion for "The Mentalist", with a happy ending. The final twist is tense and hilarious in the lakeside house bought by Patrick Jane. The last revelation in the plot is motive of redemption and happiness to Patrick. Good also to see Rigsby and Van Pelt for the last time. My vote is nine.

Good show. Good ending. One question left though...
silvestercollingwood22 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One question I have left... Jane promised Abbott he'd give him the list of the Blake Association members withim some specific time Jane would have worked with FBI. They were talking about Jane leaving. But Jane does not have the names. This plot line is not mentioned at all after they made the deal. And Abbott doesn't seem to be concerned about it though the list is supposed to have dangerous corructed criminals. How is this they missed this? Or am I missing anything?

Besides that I love this whole show. Good happy ending as opposed to the tragic storyline of Patrick. Sad they had to kill Vega but with her and Wylie getting it would've been too happy, they had to balance the wedding with somwthing sad.

terrible ending
maggie8218128 May 2015
i used to think that nothing could be worse than the ending to the sopranos, but i was wrong. the last season of the mentalist is just a shame. the whole show from the first episode was amazing. very smart writing, really drew you in. it was funny, sweet, sexy, witty, and i just loved it. it's like the last season was written by completely different people that had never seen the previous seasons. it was campy and awkward. i can't believe i'm the only one on here that isn't praising it. it's not just the last episode that i take issue with, although the last episode was the worst of the season. the whole final season feels short and rushed. almost like they lost funding and had to wrap it up, but just did a half a** job of it. seasons 1-6 each had between 22-24 episodes. the final season had just 13. i feel cheated. this could and should have been done so much better.

The worst
skay_baltimore5 January 2021
This show has suffered from inconsistencies all along, but still managed to have some of the best season finales of any show I've ever watched. As maggie82181 pointed out the entire season 7 has been a bust (and I'd add season 6 which was almost as bad as season 7). THIS series finale was cheesy, stupid, unreal, wretched -- the worst. It was obviously time for this show to R.I.P.
