Although the 4th season of "Heroes" ended with a setup for a 5th season which never came because the show was cancelled, I think most viewers would agree that by that point it had pretty much run its course. "Heroes Reborn", which came out five years later, may not have been what series creator Tim Kring initially had in mind, but it might be exactly what was needed; a reboot with new characters, new story lines, new questions, but enough of the old "Heroes" feel (and some returning cast members) to keep the connection going. Obviously it's too early to call this a success (or failure) yet, but it is certainly an intriguing start. "Heroes" has always been at its best when you don't know what's going on, and you get a lot of that disorienting feeling in these first two episodes (which are paired together as one feature-length episode on the DVD). Though I can't help but notice that most of the new powers are variations on powers we have already seen. *** out of 4.
