Fire Across the Galaxy
lassegalsgaard10 December 2019
What a way to end a great season?! To just end it all with the best episode of the entire thing is more than I could have ever asked for. This was a great episode. Great action. Great moments of connective tissue to the other parts of the galaxy. Every single character got a moment to stand out; even Chopper got a little time to shine in this episode. Kanan's final battle against the Inquisitor was epic and it ended in a very unexpected way, which may tease that these two characters have not met for the last time. This episode was also the real beginning of the rebellion as the ending of the episode set up some big things to come in the next season. I loved the introduction of a specific character that we have seen before, and I think that her inclusion will close some storylines that were left open after "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" prematurely ended. And of course, the end of the episode left me with so much excitement. I wish we had seen more of that character but I do think that will come in the next season. This was just a great episode to close up a great season, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Disney proves it can handle the Star Wars franchise
jaysoncurry933 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode of Star Wars Rebels is by far one of the greatest cinematic experiences ever given by Star Wars. When Disney first took over the Star Wars franchise, I was very worried. This finale shows that they are ready to take the reigns from mastermind George Lucas. And makes me more excited for The Force Awakens than ever before! Let's dig in...

The lightsaber fight! One of, if not the single best lightsaber fight ever put on screen by Star Wars...I mean Disney. Its up there with Anakin vs Obi-Wan Ep3, Maul vs Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn Ep1, Vader vs Luke Ep5&6, and any of the best ones from SW The Clone Wars. Kanan and Ezra take on the Inquisitor. At first the fight seems very lopsided, though the shock on his face when Kanan uses Ezra's saber as a blaster was incredible. The Inquisitor easily takes on both. He then takes out Ezra. Oh no! Unlike the anger we see Obi-Wan show when Maul takes out Jinn in Ep1, Kanan's resolve was incredible. He says something to the Inquisitor (in reference to Ezra's fall) along the lines of, "Now I have nothing to fear." He uses both his and Ezra's sabers. Eventually wins, slicing the double- bladed spinning saber in half, then the Inquisitor is defeated.

Then after this incredible lightsaber duel, the rebels escape the Stardestroyer. Only to be saved from an onslaught of tie fighters by a couple unknown ships, blockade runners included! A New Hope reference? Yes! Bail Organa hologram shows up, his appearance is completely overshadowed by none other than Ashoka Tano herself. She's back! I was so overwhelmed with excited, only to be made even further ecstatic by Gen. Moff Tarkin himself introducing Darth Vader as the solution to these rebels.

I'm so ready for Season 2. Is the Inquisitor really dead? What's next for Kanan and Ezra? Ashoka's back! Vader to play a bigger role?? Ashoka vs Vader???? Bring it on.

The show improves

Warning: Spoilers
Rebels has been okay so far. I know it's for children and I should not expect extreme darkness. But the season final was pretty good. For the upcoming seasons a hope for more seriousness and less silliness. According to what I have heard, the show certainly does become better.

I knew that Ashoka would occur at some point in time in the show, but i was really surprised when she had her appearance in this episode. I like it. Hopefully, Vader will also occupy an important role.

I stay tuned.

Facing the Dark Side
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic12 October 2020
Continuing the rise in quality this finale is the best episode of Season 1 and lifts the standard of the season overall to match the standard of the first season of Clone Wars.

It is not perfect, perhaps, there are still some very small moments trying too hard to make it 'child friendly' (I don't think children need any dumbing down of humour or content at all) but this is far more powerful and grown up than most of the season. There is some dark and dramatic material which is great.

There is an exciting and very eventful battle between the evil Inquisitor and Kanan & Ezra which is brilliant. We also get a very striking cameo appearance at the end.

It was clear that if the standard continued to build Rebels could rise to the great standard of later Clone Wars seasons.

My rating: 9/10.

"Now I have nothing to fear."

Warning: Spoilers
What a line.

This was a pretty great finale. Having only aired fifteen episodes in its first season, this show never really outstayed its welcome. The episodes were all either good or decent (save for that one with the weird beasts in the amandine hanger I guess), and this was the best way to end the season. It leaves a handful of possibilities open for the next season (which I've heard great things about).

The lightsaber duel wasn't one of my favorites but it was pretty well done. Was not expecting it to end the way it did. This is shaping up to be some pretty solid Star Wars content.

Series Review: An enjoyable and fun start
atkinsonlouise-738735 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
With Ashoka on the way, I thought it time to watch this show again. Season one introduces us to the crew, their motivations, the Empire on Lothal, and to the wider Rebellion at the end. Probably the best thing about this season is the development of Kanan and Ezra's relationship, and their self doubts about being Jedi and good enough for one another. I like the other Ghost crew members as well, they are all interesting characters who will be explored in more depth later. There is some filler here and a few eh episodes, but the majority develops the plot well and in a good way. Agent Kallus isn't too developed in this season and neither are most villains here, but they fit a role. The Inquisitor is a fearsome presence and his interactions with Kanan are always great. The lightsaber fights are always pretty good and feel weighted to the plot. I was satisfied with the pacing and how this series concluded things. Overall, a fun and enjoyable start, that finds its feet well. But, the meat and potato? That comes later. Score: 7/10.

SEASON 1 REVIEW: Simple, sweet, and fun.. but not for everyone.
frankiesilver-9183610 August 2022
With the Ahsoka series on the way, and only having seen some of this show way back when it was airing, I decided to give it a shot. The verdict: Season 1 is simple and sweet.

Through the eyes of the lead character Ezra Bridger, it introduces you to the Ghost Crew as you follow their small-scale rebel antics.

There seemed to be two reasons people were turned off by this show. #1 being that it's a completely original cast and #2 being that it's very clearly directed at kids.

The first of these I take no issue with. I love everything about the Ghost crew. How couldn't you? A grown Padawan, kickass Mandalorian who escaped the Imperial Academy, hot-headed Lasat with a big heart, and a confident captain/group mother-figure. Not to forget Chopper - the funniest droid in all of Star Wars.

Also, the formerly mentioned Ezra is easy to relate to for further immersion. His dynamic with the other cast is what makes the show work so well. Being trained by Kanan, crushing on Sabine, brotherly fighting/bonding with Zeb, etc.

This is a group of unique individuals each with a dark past thanks to the empire, and having groups like this makes the rebels feel like real, affected people. I feel this world-building is enough to justify the show's existence.

I love the concept, and it may just the nostalgia speaking, but when the characters are doing their thing on the Ghost, I feel at home just as much as they do.

As for the child-directed nature, at times the plot can seem simple, silly, and filler-like. To be fair, even though it makes the start of the show pretty slow, it's there early on to get the audience used to the characters. With this in mind, I don't mind it too much.

I would argue that many arcs in The Clone Wars are equally slow and kiddy-feeling. Plus, it's absolutely enjoyable for an older audience, unlike some kid shows.

Either way, the season progresses and is more interesting and serious by episode 8. Thus, you can skip the earlier stuff if you really don't care for the simpler bottle episodes.

As the plot thickens, the antagonists become more important. Truth is, the villains are hit or miss. The Grand Inquisitor is much better here than in Obi-Wan. Him vs Kanan is always a highlight. Tarkin coming in also adds some needed tension to the final episodes. Meanwhile, every other villain is boring and the Stormtroopers are dumber than usual.

The show also has many cool cameos. These don't happen too often and are usually a pleasant surprise like with Billy Dee Williams returning as Lando or Yoda speaking to Kanan.

Ultimately, I can't deny this show isn't for everyone. However, if you open yourself up to a smaller story that is still very interwoven in Star Wars canon, you may be surprised by its charm, references, and lore-building as it hints toward a bigger future.

Worse then I remember
Hal207818 July 2021
Rewatching for the first time since this show was aired and the flaws I really obvious in their season. It's understandable as it's a first season of a new show but especially at the moment this is way to geared towards a younger audience for me. Their is some good character work and the sound design is great as always. Hope next season is as good as I remember...
