During the gala, the gang uses code names based on the names of actors who have played Batman: Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, Adam West, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Voice of Diedrich Bader. The code they use to talk to the group at large is "Belfry", which is based on the phrase "bat in a belfry", meaning insanity. Another episode focusing on a paintball game. The first one was Modern Warfare (2010) in Season 1, which parodied action films such as Die Hard, 28 Days Later, and Battle Royale. The second one was the Season 2 two-parter finale A Fistful of Paintballs (2011) and For a Few Paintballs More (2011), which parodied spaghetti Western films, mostly the Dollars trilogy, and Star Wars. In Season 3 the contest was a brief flashback to a 1920s gangster inspired game in Curriculum Unavailable (2012). In Season 4 the fourth instance occurred in a daydream Jeff had involving the Evil Study Group competing against the "Prime Timeline" study group in Advanced Introduction to Finality (2013).
