Most of the reviewers are clearly missing the point.

It's a filler episode, for starters, and I've seen much worse from SPN. Secondly, it's a casual observation about the majority of humanity. We're composed of both "good" and "bad" qualities and no one is perfect -- least of all your heroes. This is punctuated precisely at the end where we see Dean pummeling a tiny woman whom he loves like a sister. It's to add tension and bring a heightened awareness to the slow but steady debilitating weight of the Mark of Cain. It was highlighted before with his thrashing of Metatron but Metatron's character is such a jerk that one has a harder time sympathizing with his plight. Dean would never hurt Charlie before the mark and that is the entire lesson of this filler episode. It's going to be part of the future justification for the lengths that are gone to in order to remove the mark -- even with the dire consequences clearly illuminated beforehand and in spite of the pure havoc that is promised once they do. So, sure this is a filler episode but it's one that has real substance if you look beyond just the material at hand. Oh, and if you've read the Oz books than you don't feel too sorry for the Wizard either. He was a complete con-artist. I'm not actually a fan of this season but I bear with it because I think Season 11 was their absolute best one of all -- even past seasons four and five. But I see what they're angling for and I think they hit their mark rather squarely. I also personally enjoy Felicia Day so yeah, I might be a wee bit biased. Some of y'all seem like you'd be a hard bunch to please period.

Charlie's home

I don't get the reviews but i think it has to do with this maybe being after a season break and motws, eps without Cas, not focused on the boys seem to get some hate. This is a filler but the best thing about spn for me is good filler, i like filler and i like Charlie. Some of the dialogue was kinda cringe tho. I did like the story and they made it relate to the main story which i don't like or dislike because while its a good way of storytelling its been done to death on spn to the point i just want some good isolated filler. They were obviously going to bring her back and have some oz connection to it so i don't think its running out of ideas or such. Best part of the ep was Dean trying to live clean.

Judging by the commentary this may be the only good to come out of Gamergate
CubsandCulture28 September 2020
Felicia Day turns in one of her best performances in this episode by playing Dark Charlie and Light Charlie. The concept is obvious and the script doesn't do a whole lot with it but the acting, special effects and the gags all make this a very striking episode. It feeds into the Mark of Cain story well with Dean and Ackles also turns in a touching performance. If anything I wish Dark Charlie could have been in a another episode. I also think the script gives a good resolution to Charlie's backstory. It fits in with the Winchester's history.

Any if you listen to the commentary, Day just happened to be filming the main Dark Charlie scenes on the same day some gamergaters jerks (IMDB prevents me from using the properly stringent insult here) doxxed her. Day said-and you can tell once you have heard about this-that the doxxing was used as motivation for her performance. I like the way this episode interacts with the internet Zeitgeist because of that.

Great Episode

Charlie's duality scenario reminds me of Captain Kirk's problem in The Enemy Within, my favorite episode of Star Trek: The Original Series.

There is NO place for Charlie

Warning: Spoilers
I am a very big fan of Supernatural and have been following since first season.I liked it even with small flaws.

BUT

After this episode i just want Felicia Day(Charlie) to end the show. I liked her character in start but then it just start getting annoying and annoying. And this episode was worst of it. She is killing the show. This Episode was one of the worst for me.

It was nothing other then her in this episode. A bit or two good scenes other than that it wasn't up to standards of Supernatural. It was a let down IMO by SP standards.

It's a Charlie episode
taraangel-409606 August 2021
I've watched every episode of every season. I'm on my 4th time through. I have nothing against Charlie, but almost every episode she's in is a filler snooze-fest. So just another one. Boring.

They're out of ideas... and it's really showing.

Warning: Spoilers
It's sad to see that such an amazing show is being run into the ground just to keep the fans happy. With terrible episodes and story lines such as this and Hibbing 911 it's almost insulting that they put this crap out there expecting us to eat it up. People who watch movies and TV shows critically know what i'm talking about. This episode scored an 8.6 because of it's huge fanbase that are only still watching for the novelty of it and are just hoping it'll get better when deep down we all know that it peaked in seasons 3-5 and it's just all been downhill from there. THEY KILL THE WIZARD OF OZ FOR CHRISTSAKE. I miss the old episodes with proper story lines and scary creatures, not this garbage I could watch with me 9-year- old brother. Supernatural used to leave me scared and on edge after watching it, not rolling my eyes and thinking 'why!'. So yeah, thanks guys. Thanks for ruining my once favourite TV show of all time.

Bring on season 11...

Brace Yourselves. Its totally Boring, Charlie's story this time doesn't add up.

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, after such a long break I was expecting good series of episodes from SPN. Being die-hard fan, having seen all up and down in Supernatural so far and I was really disappointed what they have put before fans by this episode. Its too bad that they have come out such awful episode after such a great mid-series-episodes. Dean's surprisingly not his best. Shown too afraid. Meaningless episodes. No goosebumps. Not even comic relief. Even though in couple of episodes, Charlie was my favorite character now I am done with her annoyance. Charlie. Who Charlie. Now its time to rest her character in peace. She's boring and totally bringing Dean and Sam's characters to their knees. Let her go.

Filler and Killer!
raysmalldon1 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was obviously just a filler episode and a disappointing one at that!

The Charlie/Celeste story is allowed to continue when she has no place in supernatural at all, overall a very disappointing episode and four out of 10 I feel is generous bring back the good old days of when hunting evil things left you actually scared not remembering a childhood fairytale!

Also no Castiel or Crowley in this episode which always makes the episode automatically more dull and less witty!

Charlie,or Celeste if you want, doesn't matter, her story doesn't matter, what she do doesn't matter, nothing related to her doesn't matter, this episode is a "filler",they usually don't add much to the arc but this one in particular added NOTHING,i'm one of the greatest fans of SPN,and man,i hated with all my strength this episode, and the worst part of it was the ending, she made it out alive, opening doors for more stories and episodes about her, nothing interesting about her evil character, the story about Oz wasn't interesting, there was no interesting performance from both sides, not even from Dean and Sam,not even the final fight was good,it's her very character that deserves to die in a way that even SPN can't bring back, the only interesting parts of the episode were the ones that were related to the MoC,making me hope for some monster coming out of Dean at anytime, but NOPE,instead we got Evil Char...Boring Charlie, even Paper Moon was better than this stupid episode,it is sad to say this, but SPN is going downhill...again.
