Sullivan makes particular note of the needle marks on the man's arm but the pathologist says there is no indication of drug use. Sullivan is nonetheless convinced that the man was murdered. - Shortly after detective inspector Sullivan finds the brass unresponsive to his theory of foul play in the poison murder of reporter Norman Finlay, who was probably about to expose dark dealings, to the point of suspending Sullivan or their 'insulting suspicions' towards the pathologist says there is no indication of drug use. Sullivan is nonetheless convinced that the man was murdered. After a complaint from the local magistrate Sir Jeffrey Greensleeves, the inspector is arrested, found over the body of bleeding-to-death junior detective Frank Albert, who whispered a warning and a code clue. Sullivan escapes during prison transport, to the rectory, where Brown waves his objections to working with dubious cahoots, even convicted Sid, setting out to find the real murder plot. That requires breaking into the evidence room, following the trail of the secret Illuminati society and setting elaborate traps.—KGF Vissers
